This only the second ever thread n Harrogate's part of Sports Babble the last one was as a National League club, this posting is being made as they join the Footbal League having won convincingly against Notts County.
Tomorrow they say goodbye to the 4 G pitch and return to grass and as I have always said grass is a better smoke than plastics apparently!!!!!!!

Harrogate Town sealed promotion to the English Football League for the first time in their history with victory over Notts County at Wembley.

Ryan Fallowfield teed up George Thomson's early opener for Harrogate, while Connor Hall tapped in a second.

Notts pulled a goal back through Callum Roberts' superb free-kick soon after the break.

Jack Diamond sealed Harrogate's place in League Two by guiding home Jack Muldoon's cross with 20 minutes left.

Victory ensured Harrogate won their second promotion in three seasons as their ascension to the EFL was confirmed courtesy of a comfortable and commanding performance in the National League promotion final, which took place behind closed doors because of coronavirus restrictions.

Harrogate stormed out of the blocks, with Thomson poking them in front from close range, and should have doubled their lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Aaron Martin shot narrowly wide.

Notts almost levelled when Fallowfield did well to block Kristian Dennis' shot, only for Hall to slide in the Yorkshire side's second from a free-kick.

County were almost out of it just before the break as Martin came within inches of sending Harrogate 3-0 ahead as he hit the post after capitalising on some poor defending.

Neal Ardley's Notts side were reinvigorated after Roberts reduced their arrears and they should have got back on level terms when Roberts and Kyle Wootton both fired just wide.

However, Diamond's goal extinguished any hopes of a comeback, as the Sulphurites held on to seal a historic win.

  Day 7
Posted by: Arcane Astral Aeons - 02-08-2020, 13:16 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - No Replies

after yesterday washout we now have a full day to look forward to

we are waiting for the womens 100 metres hurdles.....so far the hurdles are a no show
apparently they should make an appearance in the next few minutes
while we are waiting we are going to look at the Table Tennis
and that table looks in perfect condition
the two chinese players are really going for it in the final game
and it has been won by MEI BEATCHU.....obviously   but what a name   great names these Chinese have

Uproar at the Mah Jong competition......the winner has been accused of non performance...Vietnamese player MEI BETTA THANYU has claimed his opponent
MELUV YOULONGTIME...wasnt really attempting to win:

And Now To The Tennis:
the ladies doubles won by the Lesbian pair 6-4 6-4 6-3
not a decent pair of you know what to comment on(don`t tell me you lot watch it for the tennis)

now to the highly anticipated quarter final of Pacman
this has been dominated so far by the French, who have three of the quarter finalists
well after all Pacman looks like a slice of french cheese chasing small pieces of more french cheese

staying with the video games:
to the final of the Space Invaders
very exciting climax(not that sort)
until someone tripped over the plugs and completely and literally pulled the plug
on its resumption the players realised that they hadn`t got any 10p pieces to complete the game
so its Humans 0-1 Aliens

please join us later for more highlights

  Eddie's gone
Posted by: themaclad - 02-08-2020, 09:07 - Forum: Bournemouth - Replies (6)

Eddie never really recovered from losing at Deepdale in February 2012 after we got shut of medal winner bvut didn't do so bad on't South Coast

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has left the club by mutual consent after their relegation from the Premier League.

The 42-year-old led the Cherries in more than 450 games across two spells spanning more than a decade.

The Englishman, who leaves after talking to club officials on Saturday, said he believes it is "the right time for the club to have a change".

Bournemouth's five-year stay in the top flight ended despite a 3-1 win at Everton on the final day of the season.

"Having spent a total of 25 years with the club as both a player and a manager, this decision - made together with the club - is one of the hardest I've ever had to make," said Howe in an open letter to fans.

"However, although the affection and love I have for this football club will always remain, we collectively feel that now is the right time for the club to go in a new direction.

"Bournemouth will always be in my heart, but I firmly believe now is the right time for the club to have a change."

Bournemouth had risen from League Two to become an established Premier League team under Howe, who guided them to three promotions in six seasons.

Eddie Howe waves at Bournemouth fans
Eddie Howe steered Bournemouth from League Two to the Premier League
But they lost 22 of their 38 games to finish 18th in the table, one point from safety, and return to the Championship after five seasons in the Premier League.

A number of big-money signings have not worked out for the Cherries in the manner Howe - who played more than 250 times for the club - will have hoped for.

Winger Jordon Ibe, who cost £15m from Liverpool in 2016, played only two league games in 2019-20, and striker Dominic Solanke - who arrived in a £19m deal from the Anfield club in 2019 - managed three league goals in 32 games.

The south coast club also suffered with injuries, not least experienced defender Charlie Daniels being ruled out for the season in August 2019 and promising winger David Brooks requiring two operations that saw him miss the majority of the campaign.

Cherries chief executive Neill Blake said Howe was a Bournemouth legend who has helped "transform the identity and history of the club".

He said the decision to part company was "even harder given our close personal friendship".

'What he achieved is a miracle'
Former Bournemouth boss Harry Redknapp, who managed the club from 1983 to 1992 and took them into the second tier of English football for the first time in their history in 1987, predicts Howe will be "back in the Premier League soon".

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I am very surprised. I felt sure he would look to get the club back up next season. The job he has done has been incredible.

"He took a club struggling in the third tier into the championship - which was a miracle - and then into the Premier, which I thought was impossible to do.

"Then for five years he had us playing incredible football, beating everybody at different times - it has been amazing.

"The stadium only holds 11,000 people, they had no right to get in the Premier League. For 100 years they were never out of division three or four. No disrespect but it would be like Rochdale, or clubs like that, coming into Premier League. It has been incredible.

"It will not be an easy job to follow him. He could not have done any more, and walks away with his head held high."

Howe's timeline as Bournemouth manager
31 December 2008 - Howe, aged just 31, takes caretaker charge with the club 91st in the Football League and facing relegation and potential liquidation. Despite starting the season on -17 points, the Cherries stay up on the final day of the season after winning the last three games.

8 May 2010 - Bournemouth are promoted to League One in Howe's first full season as permanent boss, finishing second on 83 points.

14 January 2011 - In his first season in League One, Howe takes the Cherries into the play-off positions and is courted by clubs from the Championship. He eventually leaves for Burnley. Bournemouth go on to lose on penalties to Huddersfield in the play-off semi-finals.

16 October 2012 - After 18 months without notable success at Turf Moor, Howe returns to Bournemouth. They are promoted to the Championship behind Doncaster. It is only the second time in the club's history they have played in the top two tiers.

2 May 2015 - After a 10th-placed finish in their first season in the Championship, Howe guides the Cherries to the title, pipping Watford on the final day. The season includes an 8-0 win at Birmingham and promotion to the top flight is a first for the club.

17 May 2016 - Bournemouth survive with a five-point cushion after a maiden Premier League season which saw them spend £10m on Benik Afobe and beat Chelsea and Manchester United.

21 May 2017 - Bournemouth finish in ninth place in the top flight, with Joshua King scoring 16 goals in the Premier League.

13 May 2018 - In the relegation zone at Christmas, Howe engineers an impressive recovery and Bournemouth eventually finish in 12th place.

12 May 2019 - Bournemouth are as high as sixth in early December but tail away in the second half of the season to finish 14th - 11 points clear of trouble.

1 January 2020 - A 4-0 defeat at West Ham sees Bournemouth fall into the relegation zone for the first time in 2019-20.

26 July 2020 - Bournemouth's five-year stay in the Premier League ends despite beating Everton because Aston Villa secure a draw at West Ham.

1 August 2020 - Howe leaves the club by mutual consent.

so far today we have had nothing to actually commentate on
a lot of the events have been more or less cancelled
owing to a rather severe overnight storm:

roads around the stadium are virtually impassable
the athletics track is under 2 feet of water
we have reports that lightning strikes have caused the indoor pool to be shut
the velodrome has also been struck by lightning

but we do have some good news:
the officials have changed the Snakes & Ladders board
and the monopoly has been declared a draw

the storm has eased and hopefully we will able to bring you the quarter finals of the underwater tennis
the under water volleyball and fingers crossed the final of the Pin The Tail On Donkey

sorry for this short version
but there is nothing i can do about the weather
hopefully we will have more later

Now The Weather Report:Thunder Lightning more Rain
and so to keep you entertained we will be showing you an afternoon film
so settle down and watch The Sound Of Music

Its back !!!

Albeit at an empty easter road. I can't say I'm hugely excited about watching a game with no fans and the prospect of hoping that I can get a stream to work.

Jack Ross has to start producing the goods for us this season, it's very much his team now and they should know what's required.

My team would be :

Marciano

Mcginn
Ryan P
McGregor
Doig

Boyle
Gogic
Allan
Wright
Newell

Nisbet

Birmingham City confirm Spaniard as new head coach

Quote:The 46-year-old has succeeded his fellow Spaniard Pep Clotet, who left the Championship club with four games of the season remaining.

Former Real Madrid defender Karanka has been out of management since a year-long spell in charge of Nottingham Forest ended in January 2019.
Prior to his time at the City Ground, he led Middlesbrough to promotion to the Premier League in 2015-16.

"I'm delighted to be joining a club with the history and fanbase that Birmingham City has," Karanka told the club website.

"I share the excitement and determination of everyone here to start working together on all the challenges that lie ahead."

Karanka joins a Blues side that failed to win any of their final 15 games of the season as they finished two points and two places above the relegation positions.

But his summer transfer funds could be boosted after the club sold Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth up to £30m.

As a player Karanka won three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid between 1998 and 2002, as well as a La Liga title in 2001.

He was an assistant coach at Real Madrid before taking on his first managerial role at Middlesbrough when he replaced Tommy Mowbray in November 2013.

Boro lost the 2015 Championship play-off final to Norwich City but went up to the Premier League automatically 12 months later, however Karanka could not guide the club to safety and was sacked in March 2017, with Middlesbrough relegated at the end of that season.

He spent just over a year in charge of Nottingham Forest after succeeding Mark Warburton in January 2018, but resigned after a poor run of form over Christmas left Forest four points off the play-off places.

"We have followed his career for a number of years and throughout that time he has always been of prime consideration for the head coach position," said Birmingham chief executive Dong Ren.

"So we are delighted that Aitor has now joined us and we look forward to working with him for the coming season ahead and future."
