Middlesbrough sacked Jonathan Woodgate in June shortly after the resumption of the 2019/20 season as they had only managed one win in 12 leaving them just above the drop zone. In came Neil Warnock who had obviously decided for the umpteenth time that retirement wasn't for him. It was a temporary appointment but, after keeping them up - they finished in 17th place on 53pts (one place and two points ahead of us) - he has agreed to stay for the whole of this season now. Despite him having a touch of the covids in September, they're up to 7th so far this season. Can we wipe the floor with them? When I say wipe the floor, I mean getting a goal and keeping everything crossed including the cat's toes hoping that we can hold on by the skin of our teeth. Well, probably not because head to head stats are crap. We managed a 0-0 draw at home last season, then they beat us 1-0 at their place. We last beat them on a soggy Tuesday evening in March 2013 (no idea if it was soggy but you know the odds) at the John Smith's. That finished 2-1 with goals coming from Alan Lee and Danny Ward after being 1-0 down, their goal having been scored by Scott McDonald. Perhaps it's time for history to repeat itself and Danny to get that first goal for us since re-signing?

After this week's midweek results, we remain in 16th position on 15 points. As already mentioned, Boro are 7th. They have 21 points.
Who is finding the back of the net?
Boro were at home last evening to Derby and it finished 3-0. To be fair, Derby are having a shocker. The scorers yesterday were Assombalonga and Johnson. The other goal was an own goal from Matt Clarke, to add to Derby's woes!
The managers speak
Frazier Campbell pre-match:
Played for both
Adam Clayton, Dean Whitehead, Scott McDonald, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Jordan Rhodes
The many faces of Neil Warnock who has managed both clubs
Neil has had a colourful relationship with referees.
In fact he's never been shy about giving his opinions.
Famous folk from Middlesbrough ... a selection anyway ...
Jonathan Hogg, Bob Mortimer, Paul Daniels, Steph McGovern, Brian Clough, Chris Kamara, Chris Rea
Can you name this bridge that was made from Middlesbrough steel?
Did you know?
Captain Cook was born in Marton, Middlesbrough in 1728.
Lockdown would be no good for an explorer.
Where are you dreaming of going when all this is over?

This thread may be a lot like my last one for Boro.

Hibs bizarrely playing Dundee again in the next round of the Betfred Cup and I just hope they register a good win against them as previously achieved. I'm slightly cautious on this happening mainly because I perceive that the same result is sometimes too easily assumed v the same opposition. Remember this is HFC we are dealing with. Jack Ross definitely has a team choice that can "turn over" this Dundee side as previously attained but they must "show up" and remember that Hibs are "carrying" players like Boyle who IMO is a luxury player who does not contribute enough to any match. We should win it but I can see a potential "shock" mainly because of the odd way that Hibs have been playing matches in recent times. C'mon Hibs - prove me wrong and start playing with a swagger and belief in what we are trying to do i.e. win games and impress your fans!!!

Decent week with nearly all players getting into double figures. Interestingly not one player managed to get the extra point from the scoreball, not seen that happen before!! Maybe the fact that we had a rare 0-0 game and 8 of the games saw at least one team fail to score as well meant that point was hard to come by!!
Current leader BBB leads the way this week along with Derby, both getting 18 points but achieving that score in very different ways. BBB was the only player to get 2 CSs and added CRs on his Gamball and Bonus. Derby scored points on a weeks high 7 games, and would have been on for a huge score had he been able to convert any of them into CSs!! Third spot goes to Twerton with 14 points, who like the top two scored on his Gamball and Bonus.
Bomber comes in 4th on 12 points, scoring on 6 games but like Derby not able to convert any of his CRs into CSs. 5th place is AAA on 11 points, he did get one CS out of his 6 scoring games but missed out on the Bonus and missed 3 extra points by not playing the Gamball.
Sixth place goes to three players on 10 points - Amelia, St Charles and Themaclad. All of them got there in different ways - Amelia got the only CS among them, SCO scored on 5 games and Themaclad only scored on 3 games but 2 of them were his Gamball and Bonus.
In 9th spot on 6 points is Sanjay. Another low score for him but unlucky for him he scored on 6 of the 10 matches but was the only player to miss on all his balls which held his score down. Lord Snooty props up the table this week with just 4 points, crucially like Sanjay he predicted a Leicester win at Anfield which cost vital points compared to everyone else.
At the top of the table BBB has extended his lead over SCO to 16 points, BBB is being very consistent this season. There is now a 17 point gap to 3rd place, and also a new player in that spot in Amelia, who overtook Sanjay who is now joint 4th with AAA. Bomber though is now just one point behind them in 6th spot, so only 3 points separate 3rd to 6th spots. At the bottom, Derby moved up a spot into the relegation PO spot, leaving Themaclad in the relegation spots with Twerton.
Cheers

DD 0pts 0CS 3CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Another high scoring week, in fact the best so far this year, with only 2 players failing to make double figures. We were helped by Beefy choosing some fairly predictable games, for example Man Utd and friends beating Albion and Tony Pulis nil (better get used to it, SCO, though I'm sure they all worked very aaard). Good returns from both the gamball and bonuses but not a single extra point gained from the scoreball. Stairs was the only person to score on the Villa game (what is it about those ***&^*s - on the rare occasion I don't mind them winning, they manage to lose!)
Silver heads the weekly table for the third time this season with 20 points. He scored on 7 games with one correct score and extra points from both his gamball and bonus. Stairs is just a point behind, the only player to get more than one correct score and like Silver scoring on 7of the games. His decision not to play the gamball deprived him of 3 extra points, keeping him off top spot. Zinman takes 3rd place, another point further back, scoring on 6 games including the gamball and bonus. All of the top 3 scored their highest points of the season so far.
A bit of a gap to a pack of players together in mid-table. Beefy and Minizin got 6 correct results though no correct scores, both scored on their bonuses and both declined to play the gamball, something Minizin will regret but Beefy be happy about. Lady Jane was 1 of only 2 players to lose points on her bonus, but gained respectability with a correct score and positive gamball. Joker only scored on 4 matches but got both his balls right to total 12 points, 1 ahead of Somerset, another player to regret not choosing to gamble.
BaggieOne failed to reach double figures, 1 of only 2 people to lose points on the gamball, but the Coote performance award of the week goes to DD who continued his poor start to the season, failing to trouble the scorers.
Minizin will enjoy a 3rd week on top of the overall table but sees his lead cut back - will he regret chickening out on the gamball so often? Zinman climbs to 2nd with Stairs close behind after their good week. Joker and Somerset drop back though remain very much in touch. Beefy is just clinging on to the leaders after yet another very average week.
Silver's good week lifts him a couple of places to 7th, Lady Jane climbs above BaggieOne but DD's awful week leaves him rooted to the foot of the table for the 4th consecutive week

Minizin 94pts
Zinman 88
Stairs 87
Joker 83
Somerset 82

Here is an opportunity for Hibs to take over the 3rd spot in the Scot Prem from the Dons but will they take it? We'll find out if they are still feeling sorry for themselves after throwing away a victory v Celtic. There is no doubt in my mind that Saint J, with one defeat in their last eight games, will make it difficult for Hibs tonight although IMO Hibs are a far superior team if they "show up". I think Jamie Gullan should start in front of Doidge and see how he fares v such a stuffy team. Another point of interest for me is how Boyly performs tonight - will he continue to be a real irritation to many Hibs fans again?? It really is high time he started playing properly! IMO Hibs are not playing badly but can play better with the correct line up. C'mon Hibs!

"Wycombe are called the Chairboys because of the tradition of chair-making in the town of High Wycombe. The nickname was used in the early days of the Club but was only resurrected after the 1980's fanzine Chairboys Gas dug out the name from the history books."

Noisy Neighbours
Nearest neighbours to the Chairboys are all in the Championship too this season. Reading, Watford and Luton.
Geographically they are separated from Watford by The Chalfonts - and as anyone who has suffered from The Chalfonts can tell you, they are a right pain in the arse.
Watford were one of the first to find that out as they have slowly adapted to life in the Championship. Gareth Ainsworth's side are capable of being a right pain in the Chalfonts to anyone who takes them lightly. The battering that a fast starting Blackburn gave them early doors has seen them rarely lose since by more than the odd goal and pick up two useful wins and two draws.
Latest news
Hamer still out (see below)
The Cardiff away match will now kick off at 19:00
Out Injured/Suspended
He's neither of the above but Ben Hamer is currently away from the squad due to a family member also having to isolate. No date yet set for his return but likely not before the weekend.
Titchy Pritchy still out, may be back training soon. otherwise the usual long-term chaps are still doing coaching duties.
Training but might not be oven ready
Koroma is wrapped in cotton wool and tin foil. Will be given a good basting before deciding whether to put him in the frame.
Alex Vallejo is being kept luke warm by the same methods.
Back in the frame
With Hamer out Ryan Schofield was on the bench on Saturday. It's unlikely Careless will drop Pereira after one outing, Town weren't the only side to screw up trying to play out from the back on Saturday or Sunday, but hell get your heads up and have a look before just doing it blindly, twice fer crying out loud. If in doubt get it out. Out of harms way, out of the ground if you have to, or at least up their end, turn 'em round and press them in their half.
Last time out
Wycombe had a creditable 0-0 draw against Brentford, continuing a recent run of form against top half sides where they have at least found a way of plugging their leaky defence if not setting the world on fire with the number of goals they are scoring.
![[Image: xW6XNFK.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/xW6XNFK.jpg)
Town scored 3 very good goals at Smoke but still managed to claw defeat from the jaws of victory, er, a draw, er, we hung in for the last 30 mins and prevented another hammering.
![[Image: wWQ2trk.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/wWQ2trk.jpg)
Table
Town have slumped to 16th as a result of only one win in the last six games. We can just about get back into the top half with a win and a few results going our way.
![[Image: lXfNubu.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/lXfNubu.jpg)
Form
All of Wycombe's 8 points have come in their last 6 games. Unexpected results against Watford (1:1), Brentford on Saturday and wins against Brum and fellow cellar dwellers, Wendies, means their current form is better than ours.
![[Image: CkuNF56.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/CkuNF56.jpg)

Cummings and Going's (to Barnard Castle for an eye test and a medical)
No great surprise that Wycombe didn't push the boat out, and other than Wendies starting on -12, since reduced to -6, they will be more surprised than anyone to see themselves above Direby. Had they not lost to Forest they could be level with them too.
Ainsworth did see fit to bring in the er, youthful David Stockdale in goal. A promising young lad who started his career at York in 2005 and has since gone on to have more Clubs than two decks of cards.
In through the out door - one Craig-Mucky-Smiff, phew.

Scott Kashket is their leading scorer on three with fullback Joe Jacobson amongst the top providers.

Local music
Not so much a musician as a music promoter, Ron Watts (no relation to Charlie that I've found yet), who passed away in 2016 rubbed more than just shoulders with a legend or two of the world music scene, let alone in the upstairs room of pubs down Wycombe high street.
Who he then? This is a very good read on www.chairboys.co.uk if you've time, and have finished Snoots's "Sssssmoking" thread from the weekend yet. Mr. Watts was a very early promoter of Punk Rock bands including those nice, shy, quiet lads known as The Sex Pistols.
Well, in for a penny, in for a pound, tenuous links and all that
Ian Dury was educated at The Royal Grammar School, as was Howard Jones
It would be a waste to play anything else
A song from young Mr. Jones that 'appen applies to both sides
The list of past and present famous faces goes on, including Dusty Springfield (hope she eventually earned enough to buy herself some shoes) and crooner Frankie Vaughan. Other hanger's on include James Corden and Heston Blumenthal, neither really known for their musical abilities or their ability to play football if truth be known.
Oh - and there's these guys too
The Cold Blooded Hearts
They can't all lose
Preston and Blackburn have to draw and Barnsley and Cardiff have to do not much better than draw accompanied by Town getting and winning by a bagful for us to be back in the top half.
Otherwise I've blown another No pressure lads.
![[Image: RhhBWD4.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/RhhBWD4.jpg)
We've played 'em before
We've only met 10 times. The last time we met we were both in League 1. Town have won 6, Wycombe have won 2.
Quiz - How many games have been drawn and how many goals were scored in those games?
(Hint - there's a big clue in the pic below, but looking is cheating).
Quiz - Who played for Town in the last two league games between the clubs and will be in the squad again for Tuesday? - See if you can answer before watching the video below.
Look, I'm trying not to make it too difficult for you as it's your first day back at work after the weekend - unless your Snoots that is - and it's another school night.
Town won the home leg 3-0, with the prolific Alan, Alan Lee scoring twice, and then Jordan Rhodes did this at their's.
Oh how Wendies would love him to score that many again - in a season.
A certain Gareth Ainsworth was in the Wycombe team back then. Wonder what happened to him?
Town were promoted and Wycombe relegated at the end of that season. I'm not getting me hopes up as far as Town are concerned and apart from playing us, the more points Wycombe get off otherwise mid-low table sides, the better for us.
Quiz - Who scored Town's 3rd goal in the 3-0 home win?
