Maybe a little uncharitable to say this at this time, but IMO he was as unlikeable a person as he was great a player

Definitely my view too. Thoughts and prayers are with the economy of Colombia at this difficult time.

Hopefully he has now seen the real hand of God, pointing down the stairs.

November 25th will be remembered for for football geniuses, as it was on this day 15 years ago for the best player I ever saw also passed away George Best . RIP Diago he wasn’t my favourite as I dislike cheats.

A Maverick genius, footballing romantic and the one player who could drag an entire club (and nation) to victory. You just don't get players with his skill, attitude and aura anymore. The definition of a street player.

And he did it all in an era when the pitches were shit and the opposition were trying to cripple him on a regular basis.

The thirty plus year retained bitterness by the brit pack is delicious, like somehow English players never cheat and never ever aren't nice boys .

Epitomised by the likes of shilton weeping on GMB this morning. 100 caps plus for England and thats all he will ever be remembered for. And he was an absolute scumbag off the park as well.

RIP Diego.

In Shilton's defence ...I was inches away from throwing up over his nice new suit (as a kiddie getting autographs outside The Dell) ....he seemed like a very nice fella in the aftermath!

About Maradona ...agree 100% with the above....

Maradona got mediocre sides to play. Many were influenced by his greatness.
But my top 4 would be
1. George Best
2. Pele
3. Maradona
4. Ronaldo

I mean, given that the guy who started this thread with the Madonna gag is neither English nor British, I think it's fair to say that Diego's reputation as a bit of a pillock transcends national boundaries. But hey, if you want to pretend it's all about '86, have at it.
