  Gone from the Iron
Posted by: themaclad - 13-05-2022, 14:43 - Forum: Scunthorpe United - No Replies

Scunthorpe United have released ten players following their relegation from the English Football League.

Goalkeeper Rory Watson heads the list, after making 41 appearances as they finished bottom of League Two.

Jamaica international Anthony Grant, Tom Pugh, Harry Bunn, Aaron Jarvis and Lewis Thompson will also depart.

Reserve goalkeeper Tom Collins, Harry Jessop, Harry Baker and Kenan Dunnwald-Turan are leaving as their contracts are expiring.

However, the club has exercised the option on contract extensions for teenage duo Cameron Wilson and Dan Gallimore, and new contracts have been offered to Jai Rowe, 20, and 19-year-old Finley Shrimpton.

Watson, 26, played more than 100 times for the Iron after his arrival from non-league North Ferriby United in January 2017.

Scunthorpe were relegated out of the EFL for the first time in 72 years with four games to spare, finishing the season with a 7-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers which prompted manager Keith Hill to criticise the "terrible" culture at the club.

New deal for keeper and others
Posted by: themaclad - 13-05-2022, 14:42 - Forum: Colchester United - Replies (13)

Colchester United have taken up an option to extend goalkeeper Shamal George's contract for another season.

The 24-year-old joined the U's from Liverpool in the summer of 2020 on an initial two-year deal and made 32 appearances in the 2021-22 campaign.

The League Two club have offered a new deal to former Ipswich midfielder Emyr Huws, 28, who was signed in January on a deal to the end of the season.

Defender Miles Welch-Hayes and keeper Dean Gerken have been released.

Welch-Hayes, 25, played 15 games this season, while Gerken's only appearance came in a Papa Johns Trophy match against West Ham's under-21s.

The 36-year-old made 80 appearances during his second spell with the U's after returning to the club from Ipswich in 2019, having previously played 126 times between 2002 and 2009.

Hibs v St Johnstone, Sun 15 May, KO 12 noon
Posted by: 0762 - 13-05-2022, 14:16 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (6)

Well lets see what Hibs have to offer in the last game of a very disappointing football season. St Johnstone managed to avoid automatic relegation and looking like they have picked up a bit of positive form, beating the Dons who appear to be in the same malaise as Hibs!! HFC currently going in the other direction but one of our strikers finally scored a goal that made no difference in a match we lost to a relegated side!!! Thumb down I'd like to see Hibs win a game on their own ground because at the moment that is gradually becoming a pipedream and an absolute disgrace. A pitch that all our players must be accustomed to and yet the gradual historical record of winning matches on this pitch is unimpressive. Hibs still trying to sell match tickets for this game and acting as though nothing is wrong within the confines of the club. I'm convinced we won't win this match. I just hope I'm proved wrong and they actually win a match and deserve to win it.

These Championships were due to have taken place in March, but postponed because of Swedish Covid regulations, and are now set for 15th May to 22nd May in Jönköping, Sweden, which was the original venue. The city is famous for one person more than any other and it is Agnetha Fältskog of ABBA who was born there. Did ye ken that, Agnetha? (in Scottish) Eh, what was that? (in Swedish).

Rotherham United captain Richard Wood has signed a new one-year deal.

The 36-year-old has made 202 league appearances for the club since joining the Millers from Charlton Athletic in June 2014.

He helped lead Paul Warne's side to success in the Papa John's Trophy and promotion back to the Championship in 2021-22.

Wood has won three promotions in his time at the New York Stadium and also been relegated on three occasions.

Posted by: themaclad - 12-05-2022, 20:39 - Forum: Barrow - No Replies

Barrow have ended contract talks with boss Phil Brown following the end of the 2021-22 League Two season.

The 62-year-old joined the club in March on a short-term deal to the end of the season, succeeding Mark Cooper.

Taking over with the club 21st and six points above the drop zone, Brown kept the club in League Two with two wins from his nine games in charge.

"Negotiations over him taking the role on a full-time basis have proved unsuccessful," the club said.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to Phil and to [assistant] Neil McDonald for their efforts since coming into the club," chairman Paul Hornby said.

"Retaining our EFL status was the number one priority when they arrived in March, and we are grateful for the part that Phil and Neil played in that."

South Shields-born Brown guided Hull into the Premier League and led Southend to League One during the high spots of a managerial career which also took in spells as assistant to Sam Allardyce at Blackpool and Bolton.

  Mark Kennedy
Posted by: themaclad - 12-05-2022, 17:45 - Forum: Lincoln City - No Replies

Lincoln City have appointed Mark Kennedy as their new head coach on a four-year contract.

The 45-year-old former Republic of Ireland international winger has left his job as assistant at Birmingham City to take charge of the League One club.

"We've been hugely impressed by Mark's knowledge, energy, drive and passion," said Imps chairman Clive Nates.

"He impressed us with his desire to develop players while creating an aggressive, attacking style of play."

Former Millwall, Liverpool, Manchester City, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Cardiff City and Ipswich Town winger Kennedy spent 11 months in the job at St Andrew's after being hired by Blues boss Lee Bowyer last June.

He is the third Blues backroom employee to leave since the end of the season at the Championship club, following physio Dave Singleton and kit man Jon Pearce.

Since retiring as a player in 2012, Kennedy has coached at Ipswich and Man City - and managed Macclesfield Town, where he spent a difficult seven months in charge, resigning in August 2020 prior to the Silkmen going into liquidation.

Lincoln, who finished 17th this season in League One, had been without a manager since former Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Michael Appleton left on 30 April after three years in charge.

The 36-year-old joins after retiring as a player, having made 33 appearances for Aberdeen this term.

It is his first managerial job after a glittering playing career which saw him lead Celtic to 23 major trophies, as well as winning 55 caps for Scotland.

"It's a great opportunity at a really exciting club," Brown told the club's website following his appointment.

James Rowe - finally I'm proud of us
Posted by: Devongone - 12-05-2022, 16:16 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (2)

So finally it is admitted that James Rowe, our former manager, left the club after allegations of sexual misconduct.

He apparently exposed himself to a young woman.

Rowe's new employers AFC Fylde did not ask for a reference from Chesterfield, but we did make them aware of the incident and they went ahead and employed him anyway.

We also contacted the FA and alerted them that in the club's opinion Rowe is a potential danger to women, but the FA's response was that it does not regard it as safeguarding issue as the woman concerned was not under the age of 18. Hmmmmmmmm. (What had the policeman who raped and murdered a woman been doing a few weeks before his awful crime, oh yeah, exposing himself to women!)

What a change for the club after our self-serving attitude to signing Ched Evans. Now, when challenging to win our league and gain a promotion every fan wants, we ditch the man who got us there in favour of the woman who was brave enough to speak out. We are now still struggling even to reach the play-offs. Under new management we've so far only won five times I think, but bloody hell for once we did the right thing.

AFC Fylde and the FA can dumb down to any standards they choose, but we didn't cover up the problem, slip a few people a bit of laundry money and hope James Rowe would come up smelling of Lenor and soon have us back in the EFL. We did the right thing, that's bloody daft, useless old Chesterfield. For once we got it right.

Those who took that decision should be proud of themselves. In a world in which only a tiny percentage of rape cases end up in court attitudes to men's sexual misconduct have to change. A world in which a man is so arrogant that he thinks he is too important for anyone to speak up if he waves his willy at a woman has to be challenged. Well done to the victim and those who supported her. Well done to us for doing the right thing, whatever the cost.
