  Cut by the Blades
Posted by: themaclad - 15-05-2022, 09:52 - Forum: Sheffield United - No Replies

David McGoldrick has been released by Sheffield United along with Lys Mousset and Luke Freeman.

Their contracts expire this summer and they have been told they will not be offered new deals.

Jack Robinson has triggered a one-year contract extension and the Championship club have taken up an option to extend Ben Osborn's contract for another year.

Meanwhile, Chris Basham has agreed a two-year deal at Bramall Lane.

The Blades say they are also in discussions with other players.

Billy Sharp, 36, recently signed a contract extension, but fellow striker McGoldrick, 34, is leaving after four years at the Yorkshire club, during which he became a fans' favourite.

McGoldrick helped United win promotion in 2019 and played a key role as they finished ninth in the Premier League the following season.

French forward Mousset, 26, was signed in July 2019 from Bournemouth for a club record £10m but started just 17 league matches.

Midfielder Freeman, 30, started just four after arriving from QPR the same summer.

  Guernsey boys
Posted by: themaclad - 15-05-2022, 09:48 - Forum: Bristol City - No Replies

Two Guernsey FC teenagers have signed for Bristol City after trials with the Championship club.

Midfielder Ben Acey, 17, has agreed a one-year contract after playing for the Robins' under-18 and under-23 teams this year.

He also made 27 appearances and scored four goals this season for Guernsey in the Isthmian League.

Striker Tim Ap Sion, 16, has signed with City's academy, after scoring on his Green Lions debut this spring.

Bristol City are already home to Guernsey-born and Guernsey FC graduate Alex Scott, who progressed through the ranks to becoming a regular starter this season after signing for Bristol City as a teenager.

Scott, 19, signed a four-year deal with the Robins last August.

"The relationship with Guernsey football is now well established - thanks to Tony Vance [Guernsey FC manager] for his part in that - and we are looking forward to taking on the development and care of these young players," Bristol City academy director Brian Tinnion said.

  Assistant Manager Leaves
Posted by: themaclad - 15-05-2022, 09:46 - Forum: Plymouth Argyle - No Replies

Keith Downing has left League One side Plymouth Argyle after a five-month spell as assistant manager.

The former Cheltenham boss, 56, was brought in on a contract until the end of the season in December after the arrival of manager Steven Schumacher.

"We are disappointed to be losing Keith," director of football Neil Dewsnip told the club website.

"He is an extremely good and experienced coach who has made a massive impact."

Downing said: "I have loved being at Argyle and think it's an incredible club with incredible people.

"Steven is a really talented and progressive young coach, and it is a very, very good team."

The Pilgrims finished seventh in League One, narrowly missing out on the play-offs on the final day of the season.

Celtic 6 Motherwell 0 - the "icing on the cake"!!!
Posted by: 0762 - 14-05-2022, 16:05 - Forum: Celtic - Replies (1)

An absolute goal fest for the Hoops started by Kyogo's goal and the "Steelmen" really could've easily lost to a record score line of 10-0 such is the vast difference in standard between most Scot clubs below the top two in the Scot Prem. A "brace" of goals for Kyogo and a late "brace" of goals for Giakoumakis. And it was a title celebration in the sun with Ange "in his element" at the end of the match and promising the Celtic fans a far stronger team than this season - phase 1 completed and job done! Note Tom Rogic and Nir Biton finally leaving Celtic for "pastures new" after a long association with the club.

Championship play-off semi ruined by another pathetic referee!!!
Posted by: 0762 - 14-05-2022, 00:05 - Forum: Inverness Caledonian Thistle - Replies (3)

Gollum the referee in question who officiated the semi-final 2nd leg v Arbroath tonight and he has unjustly issued two red cards to ICT players (one red card, 1st half, and then a second yellow to Duffy in ET). This ref can be a nightmare of a ref when you are on the receiving end of his shit decisions and it just endorses the critical debate re rotten refereeing throughout the season. Totally "card happy" tonight and "lost the plot" in such an important match for both footie clubs - an absolute disgrace during a match which was dreadful in all honesty!! Thankfully ICT won the play-off in a pk decider. IMO they won't beat Saint Johnstone.

  Adams leaves the Vegans
Posted by: themaclad - 13-05-2022, 18:17 - Forum: Cardiff City - No Replies

Cardiff City have signed midfielder Ebou Adams on a three-year deal with his contract at Forest Green Rovers due to end on 1 July.

The 26-year-old Gambia international is the Bluebirds' first summer signing ahead of the 2022-23 season.

"Hopefully I can be part of the team that takes Cardiff City back to where they belong," said Adams.

"I'm an all-round midfielder. The fans can expect 110% from me and for me to play with a smile on my face."

Cardiff boss Steve Morison said: "Ebou's going to bring athleticism and energy. He's really good on the ball. He's been a top, top player for Forest Green for a number of years.

"I said I was going to change the dynamic of the group. I wanted to change what you see from the players characteristic wise and he fits the bill.

"It is the right time for him to step up to the Championship. It's a big step for him, but he's buzzing, we're buzzing and we're looking forward to seeing him out there.

"We're really pleased to get it over the line."

Adams added: "I spoke to the manager and I was delighted with his plans, and I just wanted to be involved. We spoke about the style of football we would be playing, and it is a style I really like."

  New deal for May
Posted by: themaclad - 13-05-2022, 18:15 - Forum: Cambridge United - No Replies

Cambridge United midfielder Adam May has signed a new three-year contract with the League One club.

The 24-year-old, signed from Portsmouth in 2020, made 50 appearances during the 2021-22 season, scoring six goals.

"His ability to play in different systems and roles in midfield gives us flexibility and competitiveness," said head coach Mark Bonner.

Greg Taylor, Harrison Dunk and Will Mannion have also agreed new deals since the end of Cambridge's season.

"It has been a brilliant two years and I am looking forward to trying to make the next three years just as good, if not better," said May.

  James Deal
Posted by: themaclad - 13-05-2022, 18:14 - Forum: Leyton Orient - No Replies

Leyton Orient full-back Tom James has signed a new two-year contract.

The 26-year-old Welshman - who moved to Brisbane Road from Hibernian last summer - scored four times in 21 games this season and was out of contract.

He returned on the final day of the season having been sidelined since mid-December after injuring his hamstring in a 2-1 home defeat by Crawley Town.

"I can't wait to come back fighting fit for next season," the former Cardiff City and Yeovil player said.

"I really enjoyed the start of the season and the injury was really frustrating, but I'm ready to go again now."

Head coach Richie Wellens told the club website: "We want him to stay injury free next year, and as a player we know he's not only good defensively, but we expect some goals and assists from him.

"Technically he's a really good player, but he has a good footballing brain too.

"He may have only trained four or five times, but we expect him to take to pre-season like a duck to water, and really fit into how we want to play."
