  Prediction League Results/Tables Week 17

Premier League

Player Pts CS CR GB BB SB
A.A.A. 12 0 5 NP 3 1
St Charles 11 1 2 5 NP 0
Snooty 10 0 5 5 -3 0
Bomber 8 2 3 -3 -3 0
B.B.B. 6 2 2 -3 -3 NP
Sanjay 5 0 3 -3 3 1
Amelia 1 0 3 -3 -3 1
Themaclad 0 1 1 -3 -3 0
Derby -3 0 1 -3 -3 1
Twerton -4 0 1 -3 -3 0

Not a great week of scoring this week, trouble playing with the balls seems to be a big issue again!!  AAA continues his good form to finish top with 12 points. he scored points on the most games this week but didn't get any CSs which kept his score down, he was one of only 2 players to get points on the bonus.  St Charles is in 2nd with 11 points, a CR on the Gamball always helps but he did suffer as he has played his Bonus on the Walsall game so missed out on potential points there.  Lord Snooty picks up another podium finish in 3rd on 10 points, like SCO a CR Gamball helps and like AAA scoring on 5 games will keep the score in double figures.

Bomber maintains his midtable mediocrity in 4th place with 8 points.  Statistically he was the best predictor this week, gaining points on 5 games and having 2 of them as CSs, but those balls stripped him of the points he gained.  BBB is in 5th, maintains his ability to restrict his poor scores during overall poor weeks, like Bomber he scored well but like most missed on all his balls, although for some reason he didn't play a scoreball at all!!  Sanjay rounds out the ones who did ok in 6th with 5 points, he was the other one to score on the Bonus.

Now to the stragglers, Amelia's shocking form continues although this week she was at least in positive territory in 7th with 1 point!!  Themaclad puts up a second zero in a row to keep him in the bottom 2 for sure.  I would like to say Derby went from hero to zero compared to last week, but the reality was he went from hero to -3!!  The only thing keeping him off last place was his scoreball.  Twerton had a mare this week, only scored on one game and missed on all his balls to finish last on -4!!

BBB - 202
St Charles - 181
Sanjay - 178
AAA - 156
Bomber - 146
Amelia - 126
Derby 122
Lord Snooty - 119
Twerton - 98
Themaclad - 94

Not a lot of change in the table.  BBB cracks the 200 point mark but his lead has shrunk slightly to SCO in 2nd with Sanjay falling to 3rd.  The gap to AAA in 4th is dropping but still stands at 22 points, with Bomber a further 10 points behind.  Amelia is now alone in 6th with Derby's minus score and Lord Snooty's fin form sees him just a few points behind both of them.  Twerton and Themaclad are now truly adrift, 23 points now separates them from Snooty.

Cheers
SCO

Championship

BaggieOne  13pts 0CS 4CR 5GB 3BB 1SB
Somerset    10pts 1CS 3CR 0GB 3BB 1SB
DD               9pts 1CS 4CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Minizin         8pts 1CS 4CR 0GB -3BB 1SB
Joker           4pts 2CS 3CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Stairs          4pts 1CS 2CR 0GB -3BB 1SB
Lady Jane    2pts 1CS 3CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Silver           1pt 0CS 2CR 0GB -3BB 0SB
Zinman         1pt 0CS 2CR 0GB -3BB 0SB

For some reason I don't have much time to write a long commentary this week. Relatively low scores, BaggieOne and Somerset did ok, Silver and Zinman didn't.

Bah bloody humbug. Who came up with this game anyway?

OK, SCO's been in touch and apparently I have a contractual obligation to write no less than 150 words of erudite, witty prose each week in order to avoid him sending the boys round (clearly enforcement hasn't been great in previous weeks.) So, back to this week's glorious round of football predictions. BaggieOne heads the table despite failing to nail any correct scores. 4 correct results including the gamball, bonus and a scoreball point were enough to give him a 3 point lead at the top. Somerset was the other player to achieve double figures courtesy of a correct bonus result and his decision not to play the gamball.

Decent weeks also for DD and Minizin both with 1 correct score and 4 results (4 was as many as anyone got). DD lost points on the gamball but recovered them on his bonus. One of Mini's correct results was the gamball game but once again he chose not to play it costing him 3 valuable points.

Not such a great week for the rest of us. Joker was the only player to get more than one correct score but ballsed up his balls to drag his total down. Stairs got just 2 correct results but was spared further humiliation by declining his gamball. Lady Jane was another one to screw up her balls but at least she managed a point more than Silver and Zinman at the foot of the table. One of Silver's 2 correct predictions was the gamball but guess what? Yes, not played, and Zinman was robbed of points from an almost certain correct prediction on the postponed Walsall game (it's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)

Minizin 188
Stairs 170
Zinman 169
DD 159
BaggieOne 155
Somerset 155
Silver 150
Joker 131
Lady Jane 107

Minizin stretches his lead at the top while Zinman's 9 week stint in the top 2 comes to an end as he's replaced in 2nd spot by Stairs. DD remains 4th and Silver's poor week sees him overtaken by both Somerset and BaggieOne with Joker dropping further behind the pack. Lady Jane remains bottom but has at least caught up with Beefy after his 4 week absence.

Saint Mirren v Hibs, Tues 2 Feb, KO 6.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 01-02-2021, 16:15 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (5)

Another away match for Hibs and our record "on the road" is one of the best in the Scot Prem. However, this fixture is an interesting one in the fact that the Buddies, under Jim Goodwin, appear to have "found their mojo" after being beaten in their Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden Park. On the other hand, Hibs look like they have "turned the corner" after beating Dundee United at Tannadice and subsequently ending an unwelcome sequence of bad results although "suckered" by bad ref calls in some of these matches. The likely result looks like a draw but Hibs actually have a decent record v the Buddies. This is a fixture that Jack Ross, an ex manager of Saint Mirren, seems to excel in. What team should he field on Tuesday night? He normally plays "two up top" but may have to be a tad cautious esp after they registered a 1st victory in 31 years at Celtic Park v a poor Hoops' side. I would tend to find out how many "tired Buddies legs" remain after such a big effort to win at Celtic Park. That means playing a high tempo strategy and see if they can handle it. Play the ex Saint Mirren players? They'll have something to prove! So prob a good initial move to face their former footie club. Hibs problem will prob be a goal scoring one again - who scores the requisite goals from the chances created? McGregor and Boyly obliged at Tannadice but I'm not so sure they'll repeat the "trick" v the Buddies. We need our recognised strikers to start scoring again but also need to provide a decent service to them. It could be that Doidgy will be "paired up" with Kevin Nisbet but that depends if Hibs hold on to the young striker. Another win would be great to see and it would provide another boost to the confidence of the team. C'mon Hibs but lets keep it "tight at the back"!

HTAFC Prediction League 2020/21 Matchday 23
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 01-02-2021, 15:20 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (11)

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

Excuse my being naive, but does signing a loan player mean we pay all their wages that was agreed by the loaning club they'd pay him, or can that be changed up or down?

Also would we need to pay a loan fee?

LAST MATCH

A much improved performance saw us take all 3 points v Preston. We reverted to a back 3 and defended fairly well through the whole match. Not too many chances in the first half but it was us who managed to put the ball in the net and from a very unexpected source as Liam Palmer popped up in the box and scored for the first time in 9 years!! Onto the 2nd half and Preston had more of the play but we continued to defend well and Westwood had little to do as we collected 3 valuable points.

THE MATCH

Next up and a trip to the south coast to take on promotion chasing Bournemouth. The Cherries started the season well but lost there first game to us of all teams. They have some good players like King, Solanke & Brooks and are now managed by Jason Tindall who was amongst the backroom staff when Eddie Howe was in charge. They currently lie 6th but have lost there last 3 games so will want to get back on the winning trail asap, lucky they are playing us then Doh

Nine points adrift of safety, and with the first of our must-win games left unwon on Saturday, the nails appear to be going into the coffin of this season at an alarming rate. With another two games to come this week, there's a chance for the team to redeem themselves in another six-pointer on Tuesday night as they travel to Bramall Lane for a crunch match with Sheffield United. Though the Blades, like Albion, have only won twice all season, both of those victories have come in the last month - one against Manchester United - and it seems they're hitting an untimely vein of form. Nevertheless, there can't be any excuses: if we're to even have the hope of a prayer of a chance of survival, three points are a must on Tuesday.

Next Sunday then takes us down for the first time to the imaginatively-named Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London's premier NFL venue, where'll we'll be looking first and foremost to avoid a Superbowl scoreline. Anything we happen to get will, as always, be a bonus. It's a tough start to February, and it's not going to get any easier from here...

Celtic 1 St Mirren 2 - methinks the end of Lennon now!
Posted by: 0762 - 30-01-2021, 19:24 - Forum: Celtic - Replies (10)

Now losing to a team that has never beaten them in donkey's years but the manner of this awful defeat is enlightening re the malaise and lack of confidence that is clearly endemic in this team as well as Lennon continuing to field a "car crash" defender named Duffy!!Thumb down Very lucky to have no Celtic fans watching these kinda games but no hiding place to go to TBH esp with Lawwell's announcement that he is leaving the club at the end of the season. I think Celtic have no choice but to move on Lennon now, something they should've done ages ago - the pressure from even the moderate faction of Hoops' fans will now be so intense - no choice in order to "show face"!!

On the tellybox
We're on Sky Sports Football over here, including Now TV in addition to iFollow, all under the glare of them there big bright expensive Prima Donna League Standard Floodlights.

In them there furrin' parts, we're on a few local channels too.

Look up the channel in your country here
Might be on in a few other countries too not listed.
Check your channel listings folks, treats like this don't come round too often.

Latest news
Jaden Brown reportedly interesting St. Mirren in a loan deal. At the moment Careless says no.
Well, they've got until Sunday (maybe Monday) to leave us with only one left back. Haven't we been here before?.

Out Injured/Suspended
Danny Ward is still doing an impersonation of Darren Anderton - ask yer dad if you don't know him - and there's every chance that Pritchard will have laddered his stockings again in training this week.
Just looked - he has. No change there then.
REG, Schindler and Stears still slowly on the way back. Mbenza - hmmm, next. Koroma? Your guess is as good as mine.

Ward will be on the pitch however, Gavin Ward, running around with the whistle.

Back in the frame
Still too early for Tommy Elphick yet? 'Appen it is, but he's put his zimmer on wheels and walking stick down and is walking and running under his own steam. He's now got to recall how to do it with a ball so maybe not just yet? Hoggy also back training but not fit enough for this weekend.
Mini-Scanz has a couple of days of of murderball (give or take) under his belt (maybe), probably aches like a bastard if you believe anything Rooney says, but he's still young enough to take it.

Last time out
Bacuna finally got his eye back in on Tuesday - could do with a shed-load more from him for the rest of the season whether Koroma comes back firing on all cylinders or not - but despite having all the ball, all the corners and nearly all the shots we still came 2nd.

Smoke on t'other hand lost 1:2 at home to Watford. What a remarkable coincidence.  Smartass

All the other results from mid-week
[Image: FOnlTQe.jpg]

Last-time at theirs
Think we both played 5-a-side with no defenders and the goalies had their hands tied tbh. Doh
We came 2nd in a 7 goal, er, thriller? The annoying thing was, we scored 4 of them - just ask Stears.

Last Time at Ours
After winning the away game in October, 1-0, Town came out yapping like Terriers, well at the start of the 2nd half, and finished up roaring like sheep. Doh What a start to the New Year that was!! Thumb down
Things could surely only have got better. Oh yes they did - big time !!  Confused  Huh  Sick  Doh
Baaaaaah, humbug!

Tables
Inspite of "null-points" so far this year, Town are still 14th and seemingly unable to get passed the 12th place barrier consistently.
Inspite of only 2 points this year, Stoke are still 9th and seemingly unable to get into the top 6 consistently.
Having reached our level, we're both consistently inconsistent.

Form
We both need locking up for this years form - yes I've said it before.
[Image: jxgpSUH.jpg] [Image: K1sxWQ8.jpg]
Town last 4 at home, Stoke last 4 away
[Image: H8J4jZT.jpg][Image: ZnLFxFS.jpg]

Stoke are actually unbeaten in their last 8 away games - quite a record - they've drawn all of the last 6 away, which explains why they have stalled a bit.

So the prediction for Saturday is ........... ?? As you know, I don't do predictions me. Big Grin

We need a striker, or anyone with a radar that can find the onion bag

Kwik Kwiz

So who out of the current bunch of Stokies would you run like mad and grab given the opportunity?

Paul Ince?
Benik Afobe?
Smiffy?
Your choice?

Yes Smiffy's a full back but he scored more for us than some of our current squad.
Well we seem to be on a trend of bringing t'old 'uns back again, so ????

Innies and Outies
Now then, about that fella Afobe - the lad that gets off a train at random stations up and down the West Coast main lines and asks the gaffa for a game.
Would you have him back as a striker? Currently on loan to somewhere I can't spell in Turkey - hell, he fell asleep for a long time on that train.

He's probably forgotten how to get to Huddersfield Station to be honest.
Does he have Kevin Phillips's phone number? Can you pass it to him?

Who's banging 'em in
Benik only had one game this season so no wonder he's not in this list
[Image: 3KD2zNl.jpg]

Local music
I checked and I think it's about 2 years since I did the away thread - so apologies if I repeat some but I can't be arsed to look.

So let's piss 'em off to start with Stokes favourite son and Port Vale fan
Robbie

Well, you never know, it might happen Saturday.

Tool the Day Laugh  Smoke-on-Stench fans will probably say it's me after reading this thread Smartass

Luvvable Lemmy (RIP)
I more than likely picked Ace of Spades last time so  ... here's another quiet 'un

Slash - get a beer (or a bottle of Prosecco AmChaff) as this goes on a bit and some of it will bore your bum off. It's not an "offishal" one.

Then there's Phil Taylor and The Crafty Cockney (moved to Stoke from 'that-there-Larndan' and I believe mentored the young Phil before eventually checking out far too young on 20 double tops) who could play sweet music with three 'arrers'.
Bruno Brookes who could play the odd decent bit of vinyl on the old Radio 1 turntables and Anthea Turner who could play music with me all night long, if only she knew where I live and we weren't all supposed to be in isolation.  Whistle

Life's a beach sometimes. Laugh

They can't all lose
But we'll make it a full hand this month if we do.

We've played 'em before
5 for and 9 against in the last 2 matches, are you sure we play football?

Next up?
Luton away next Saturday
[Image: alice-in-wonderland-apron-mad-hatter-870869.jpg]

Also changes to kick-off times for two fixtures in a month or so - I'm sure Snoots will be all over this like the skin on a bowl of cold rice pudding.
- Derby County (A) will now start at 7pm 23/02/21
- Birmingham City (H) also to begin at 7pm 02/03/21

Are you .....
An onion gravy for starters type?
Strictly only with the Sunday Roast and gravy and trimmings type?
A Golden Syrup/Maple Syrup or some other sweet topping/filling for dessert type?
Or an all 3 greedy bastard like me type?  Tongue

Big assed Yorkshires every other day o't' week. Take your pick.
Toad in t'ole?
Yorkshire filled with chili?
Yorkshire filled with curry? (any type)
Yorkshire filled wi'a Barnsley chop (or 2) might also be considered the alternative to the Sunday Roast job?
Veggie Yorkshire? - (I don't know why, but some would, or do, wet or dry).
Yorkshire filled with stew?
Yorkshire wrap? (pick yer filling).
Yorkshire reggae? (wi' lime marmalade, orange or lemon marmalade and strawberry jam in'. Wi jammin, wi jammin, wi jammin in the name o' de Lord.). Whistle
Yorkshire Dale (wi' owt else fancy ya care to suggest? Fish, scampi, chips, rice, hell, the Chinese take-aways normally have everything covered but Yorkshires  Tongue ).

If we weren't all shut down I'd open the worlds first (or maybe Wolverhampton's first) Yorkshire Pudding Emporium - it has to be the next "not so quite" fast food surely? All those currently waiting for hours in a traffic jam and blocking the roads into/out of town for a Micky D could have mine in 15 minutes (probably longer tbh). Tongue

For the Smokies reading - what do you like with your Oatcakes?
I've seen mushrooms suggested, eggs and bacon, Full-Monty breakfasts and even strawberries and butter, or is it strictly just a glass of milk?

Just remember folks ....
