Ross Co v Hibs, Sat 13 February, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 11-02-2021, 17:44 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (5)

This is a good chance for Hibs to apply a bit of "pay back" to John Hughes Staggies team after that recent embarrassing defeat at ER Stadium. I reckon they have lost their best player, Ross Stewart, who was transferred to Sunderland AFC. So that augurs well in the lead up to this match esp as Hibs confidence levels have been boosted by some excellent recent results that have elevated Hibs up to 3rd place in the Scot Prem and still having an outside chance of catching up on Celtic's second place. I think the same starting line up is in order apart from possibly resting Gogic and opting for a hi-press midfield strategy.

FORM GUIDE

Rovers 14 PNE 6

A win is required as those at the bottom start to close the gap

HEAD TO HEAD

First visit to the back of beyond was 12/1/1889 ended in a 2 all draw, we won the next one later that year 3-4, Rovers won for the first time in 1890, the last Rovers win was 10/1/2001 3-2 they were three up at half time, in recent times we have held the upper hand in games at their gaff also have been kind enough to take 7000 to help out our impoverished East Lancashire neighbours.

My first visit was a 1-0 win in April 1968 think Willie Irvine got the winner bit naive in those days couldn't figure out when celebrating the goal nobody else around us was got strange looks from the natives that day
McGeady goal in the 2 all draw about seasons back prompted epic scenes in the away end that day. The last two visits corresponded with downpours of the torrential type

MACS VIEW

Would love to say was looking forward to this given our average form at the moment only consolation we are away were we are slightly better than at Deepdale.
They seem to score goals for fun we appear to have no full backs and an inability to put the ball in the net
Armstrong appear to have scored more goals than we have as a team. To be fair to them they are having a decent season but need to start winning to catch the those in the play offs whilst we need 14 points to avoid relegation.
They won easily at our gaff after hapless Joe had another of his hapless moments by getting sent off at 0-0.
This epic is on Sky on Friday night may the Lord have mercy on those poor unfortuate sods who watch it.
Rovers will find playing in front of no one easier as that is teh norm usually at Ewood.

  Airdrie not AirBNB for McKay
Posted by: Devongone - 10-02-2021, 17:06 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (5)

McKay joins Airdrie on loan for the rest of the season.

Well, thank a four-letter word for that.

Airdrie seem pleased to have him back :-

We are pleased to announce the return of striker Jack McKay, who joins Airdrie for a second loan spell after playing for the Diamonds in 2017.

The 6’2” frontman previously made 15 appearances on loan from Leeds United, playing a part in the superb run of form which took the club to the promotion play-offs.

Jack - now 24 - subsequently moved on from Elland Road, with a spell at Cardiff City before joining current club Chesterfield in 2019.

Jack’s return on loan marks another reunion with Diamonds midfielder Paul, who is of course his twin brother. The pair have played together at Doncaster Rovers, Leeds and Cardiff.

Director of Football Stuart Millar was pleased to add a further striking option to the squad.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Jack to the club when we’re able to resume training, and we hope to see him making an impact in the latter part of the season.”

  WE HAVE NO MONEY
Posted by: Devongone - 10-02-2021, 17:01 - Forum: Dover Athletic - No Replies

Dover Athletic could stop playing matches unless the National League club receive fresh grant funding.

Owner Jim Parmenter says he is prepared to cease football operations until Covid-19 restrictions are eased in order to secure the future of the club.

Sides in the National League began playing in October thanks to government grants, but were told they would have to borrow further money from January.

"Small clubs like Dover just can't afford to take large loans," he said.

"We're talking several hundred thousand pounds to get through the season and that just isn't possible for us and it's been going on now since January with still no money forthcoming.

"I've financed the club for six weeks personally and that's got to stop and, in a nutshell, we've run out of money," Parmenter told BBC Radio Kent.

Dover have applied to Sport England for a grant, but are unsure if or when the money might be made available.

The club are currently second-from-bottom of the National League, but have played up to seven fewer games than some of their rivals after a series of postponements.

National League clubs have been voting on whether to carry on the season in the wake of the decision to replace grant funding with loans.
It is thought a majority want to continue, but the position is less certain in the North and South Divisions. However, it has become apparent that even if the National League keeps going, a substantial minority feel they lack the financial resource to play matches behind closed doors.

"The most important thing for me after 15 years keeping the club out of debt and running is for it to survive for the future," Parmenter added.

"Therefore if i furlough all the staff and cut down all the costs and I just put it under a blanket for a few months until hopefully we get back to normal, then the club will survive to play football, but that's the only option I've got really."

  Huddersfield Town 2-3 Wycombe Wanderers

This is The Chairboys' first visit to Huddersfield since 2011 when we met in League One. That day saw us win 3-0 with two from Alan Lee and the 3rd from Gary Roberts (whose name has to be said in a Scouse accent). Both players had come on as subs. We have met only 11 times. We have the better of them but, still, we only managed a disappointing 0-0 when we met in the first half of this season.

They haven't beaten us since the 1994/95 season when they beat us in both ties. The first occasion was at home, a 1-0 defeat. The goal came from Simon Garner. Unfortunately, that was also the first match at our new ground.  Doh Then we bob down to theirs on 10th December 1994 and we lost 2-1. We were ahead at half-time with a goal from Rocket Ronnie Jepson. However, it finished 2-1 after an own goal from Andy Booth  Doh and the winner from Simon Garner.

Now I really want Wycombe to survive in this league, just not on Saturday. So, come on Town, stop messing abart! The odds are in our favour...

Known as the Chairboys for reasons already explained but basically because one of High Wycombe's industries was chairmaking.
Just to prove we have chairs, too...

Although I doubt that ours are made in Huddersfield or Wycombe. Are those Incredible Hulks or red roses on the carpet? Either way, it's all wrong.

Last time out for Wycombe Wanderers was a 2-0 defeat away to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday. The team put out was as follows...

Looking back over the last few line ups, they do seem to favour the 4-3-3 set up.

League positions and form...

They're a little adrift at the bottom being 12 points behind Brum. They do have a game in hand on them, though. Of course this makes them a dangerous opposition for us because we like to give the underdogs a fair chance!  Doh

Those results broken down...

They've not managed a goal in the last 3 league games. Nevertheless, here are their top scorers...

Akinfenwa missing from the list.   Confused

Manager Gareth Ainsworth known as Wild Thing in some circles has been in the role since 2012. He had a decent playing career and didn't actually retire until 2013. He was still available, though, because he did make one further appearance in the EFL Trophy in 2016. He notched up 3 appearances for Woodley Utd (Hellenic League Division One East) between 2019 and 2020. If that's not enough, he's also known for fronting rock bands APA, Dog Chewed The Handle, Road To Eden and currently The Cold Blooded Hearts. Dog Chewed The Handle missed the chance to support Bad Manners but had to turn it down because football got in the way.

Not quite Jon Bon Jovi but you gotta love a manager that can have a cuppa in a mug on the touchline.

Talking of rock bands... I know I have used this before for Bolton but I'm stuck for ideas here...

"I'm a wanderer, a Wycombe Wanderer..." Don't blame me if you're earwormed by that for ever and a day.  Whistle

I could only find one famous fan and that's Bill Turnbull who's still putting up a good fight against prostate cancer.

Managers' comments and team news to follow if available. Although we now know we will be without Toffolo for 3 matches. Another reliable team member missing.

  Prediction League Results/Tables Week 18
Posted by: St Charles Owl - 09-02-2021, 01:40 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (1)

Premier League

Player Pts CS CR GB BB SB
Bomber 21 1 6 5 3 1
Twerton 14 2 4 -3 3 0
Themaclad 13 2 3 -3 3 1
Snooty 12 1 4 5 -3 0
Derby 11 1 3 5 -3 1
St Charles 9 0 4 5 -3 1
A.A.A. 6 1 2 NP -3 1
B.B.B. 3 0 4 -3 -3 1
Sanjay 3 0 4 -3 -3 1
Amelia -1 0 2 -3 -3 1

Decent scoring this week that for the most part saw the league table turned upside down compared to the scores for these games. Three of the games finished scoreless and as most never predict 0-0 draws those games produced -3 points between them!! Our reigning Champion Bomber leads this week and is showing some of last seasons form. He amassed 21 points, scored on 7 games including all his balls and was comfortably ahead of the rest.

Now comes the upside down bit, 2nd place this week sees relegation threatened Twerton with 14 points, he missed the Gamball but picked up the bonus. Right behind him is his relegation dancing partner Themaclad with 13 points, with Lord Snooty next on 12 points. Derby on 11 points rounds out this quartet that made up the bottom 4 in the table, lets see what difference this makes in this weeks table!!

The next 4 places are filled with those in the top 4 of the table, St Charles is 6th with 9 points, no CSs as usual but he did pick up a CR on the Gamball. AAA is 7th with 6 points and he is followed by BBB and Sanjay who both had poor weeks on 3 points. And then comes Amelia, who once again put in a negative performance to continue her dreadful form that has now lasted for 5 weeks, during which time she has only managed to score 6 points in total!! Before this run she was in the top 4 but is now plummeting down the table!!

BBB - 208
St Charles - 190
Sanjay - 181
Bomber - 167
AAA - 162
Derby - 133
Lord Snooty - 131
Amelia - 125
Twerton - 112
Themaclad - 107

The big move this week sees Bomber up to 4th place and closing in on the top 3 who are unchanged. AAA drops to 5th five points behind Bomber but is nearly 30 points ahead of Derby who is up one place in 6th, with Lord Snooty up a place as well in 7th. The other big change sees Amelia drop a further 2 places and now sits 8th in the relegation playoff place. Twerton and Themaclad both crack the 100 points for the second time, lets see if this time they can avoid the negative scores to stay above the century mark!!

Cheers

Stairs 1pt 0CS 2CR 0GB -3BB 0SB
Zinman 0pts 0CS 1CR 0GB -3BB 1SB

Bloody stupid game.

Another relatively poor game with balls proving rather problematic. Just 2 positive gamballs and 2 correct bonuses - oddly the correct gamball players both had porr weeks and would have been in negative territory. One positive was no ball controversy this week, with only 1 player causing me any issues (he will remain nameless as it would be unfair to single Minizin out.)

BaggieOne started the season slowly but he's been on fire in recent weeks and enjoyed his 4th consecutive double figure week to sit on top of the table. In a difficult week he stood out with 7 correct predictions though he could only convert 1 into a correct score and also lost out on his gamball. Joker was again late to the party, missing out on the gamball match, but was still good enough to secure 2nd place with the only other double figure score. Lady Jane would have had an excellent week but was yet again let down by her balls. She was the only player to get more than 1 score spot on but fired complete blanks with her balls to give her just points (just? I can think of someone who would have loved "just" 8 points).

Somerset and Silver sit together in mid table with 6 points. Somerset had a decent 4 correct predictions including his bonus but lost out on the gamball. In contrast Silver scored from his gamball but not much else! Minizin and DD are a point further back, Minizin saved by once again avoiding the gamball, while DD was saved by getting it right as 1 of only 2 correct predictions.

Only 2 correct predictions for Stairs too, to give him just a single point. Zinman didn't bother to predict (well, he did but he probably shouldn't have bothered.

Minizin 193
Stairs 171
BaggieOne 170
Zinman 169
DD 164
Somerset 161
Silver 156
Joker 141
Lady Jane 115

Despite Minizin's average week he actually increases his overall lead to a healthy 22 points. Stairs clings on to 2nd place though he is now challenged by this week's big mover, BaggieOne up from 5th to 3rd. Just 4 weeks ago BaggieOne was back in 9th place - just shows that nobody's out of the promotion chase just yet. Zinman's continuing poor form drops him to 4th with DD also dropping a place. The other places remain the same though the table is becoming very congested with just 10 points separating 2nd from 6th.

Defenders who cant defend, Midfielders who can't tackle, pass or create anything and Forwards who cant shoot anywhere near the intended target.
