Hibs v Saint Johnstone, Sat 30 April, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 28-04-2021, 15:55 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (10)

Well this is a fixture v an opponent that is not a bogey team to Hibs but our home record is not good enough against them TBF!! I reckon they are certain to make the Scot Cup final. So how do we play them in this particular fixture? I'd say normally we should just try to pick up another 3 pts in our quest to attain 3rd place. However, I think that 3rd spot is already assured with that 6 pts (+ a superior GD) advantage over a poor AFC side. I want JR to closely study how they play against us with a view to Hibs possibly meeting them in a one-off Scot Cup final. Of course their manager may well be thinking the same way. I'll predict a draw as the most likely outcome.

LAST MATCH

Another team with nowt to play for (except for Warnock demanding a win) and we capitulate as usual with our world class defending. Borner with the first mistake, and Bolasie finishes via a deflection. We got back into the game with a penalty after a Green run & Windass tucked it away, Windass also missed a sitter, as did Rhodes in then 2nd half. Onto the 2nd half and apart from those misses, Boro seemed to want it more and took the lead from a corner before wrapping up the points in the last 10 minutes. Derby lost to Brum so onto this weekend.

THE MATCH

Our last home game of the season and Forest are the visitors. Forest sent us down over 30 years ago and a repeat could very well be on the cards id we lose on Saturday. Yet another team with nowt to play for which hasn't bode well over the last few games. Chris Hughton is there current manager and he will be hoping to recipricate what he did at Brighton and get Forest back to the Premier League in the next season or two.

We are going up, we are going up.!!

Cheltenham 1 Carlisle 1

Yes it's true.
The Robins got the point that they needed for automatic promotion but, oh boy, wasn't it a struggle.

To be fair, I thought, before the match, that the one point we needed was almost a given as Carlisle had drawn four of their last five games.(Now 5 of last 6)
But, Carlisle obviously had ambitions of their own as, at present, they are just outside the play off places.

The Robins started brightly and were well on top for the first 20 minutes but, without really making any clear cut chances.
After that Carlisle stared to boss the game and in the 33rd minute took the lead. A free kick on the right some 30 yards out found Kayode at the far post and he headed back across goal beating Josh Griffiths in the air.

I can imagine that the air in the Robin's dressing room was blue during the half time interval.
Whatever was said; it worked.!

Cheltenham now played a higher line and had Carlisle on the backfoot. There were some cynical fouls going in to frustrate the Robin's attacks.
Finally, in the 56th minute the Robins were awarded yet another free kick. This time perhaps 25 yards out and slightly right of centre.
Chris Hussey, whom of late, has not been his usual very effective self, stepped up to take it.
Carlisle had made a huge wall of at least 6 players in the line of fire and there seemed no way Chris could score from there.

Somehow he did. A brilliant bending free kick that struck the underside of the bar and bounced down over the line.
Another contender for goal of the season at least but, strangely only the first goal this season for Hussey.

The game now became end to end with both sets of players seeking to win the game.
Cheltenham had a chance late on when Carlisle were caught too far forward and the Robins had a 3 against 2 advantage as they raced into Carlisle's half. The chance went a begging.

BUT we are up anyway. Well done to all involved. Big Grin  Big Grin  Big Grin

  Prediction League Results/Tables Week 28
Posted by: St Charles Owl - 28-04-2021, 01:28 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (1)

Premier League

Player Pts CS CR GB BB SB
B.B.B. 18 2 1 10 3 1
Sanjay 10 2 2 NP -3 1
St Charles 8 0 4 5 -3 0
Twerton 8 1 3 -3 3 0
Bomber 6 0 3 5 -3 0
A.A.A. 5 0 4 NP -3 0
Amelia 5 0 3 -3 3 0
Derby 4 0 3 -3 3 0
Themaclad 4 0 3 -3 3 0
Snooty -3 0 1 -3 -3 1

As we head into the final weeks of this seasons prediction league form is all important, as it is in the real football world.  There is no denying that BBB has showed good form all season but he is on a superb run at the moment and again tops the table with 18 points.  He actually only scored on 4 games but got a spot on Gamball and 2 CSs!!  Sanjay actually scored on more games than BBB but finished a huge 8 points behind him!!  This is the difference the Gamball and Bonus ball makes although Sanjay not playing the Gamball did save him three points this week.  The top three is completed by St Charles both in the table and this weeks scores, he managed 8 points including a CR Gamball.  Twerton was in joint 3rd with SCO, a place he was in last week and when I updated the results table his scores this week were identical to his scores last week!!

Bomber is 5th on 6 points, he was the only other person to score points on the Gamball.  AAA and Amelia were joint 6th with 5 points,  AAA didn't score any points from his balls whereas Amelia did get a CR on the Bonus.  Derby and Themaclad are joint 8th with 4 points.  They had identical records to boot, both missing the Gamball but hitting the Bonus.

Bottom of the pile for the second week in a row is Lord Snooty, he recorded a maximum -6 last week and did improve slightly to only -3 this week but he is absolutely going backwards at the moment.  He is absolutely replicating his real team in terms of form and like Huddersfield is probably lucky that there aren't more weeks left or he could be in real relegation trouble!!!

BBB - 321
St Charles - 251
Sanjay - 250
Bomber - 243
AAA - 226
Lord Snooty - 216
Amelia - 209
Derby - 204
Themaclad - 183
Twerton - 170

No positional changes this week.  BBB has the title done and dusted.  Bomber lost ground on SCO and Sanjay but is still only 8 points off second spot, so all to play for there.  Lord Snooty is in danger of being dragged back into the relegation PO spot, he is now only 12 points ahead of Derby who currently sits in that spot with Amelia sandwiched between the two!! Blush The bottom two are still adrift and it looks like their fates are sealed!!

Cheers

Does anyone actually want to get promotion to the Premier League? I know you have to put up with VAR, dodgy refs and even dodgier players (yes, you, Bomber) but looking at recent scores it seems we would all rather stay in the Championship with its entirely nicer, more polite participants.

A week that saw just one correct scoreball, 2 correct bonuses, 2 correct scores but 4 correct gamball predictions - pity only one of those 4 was brave enough to play it. Nobody reached double figures and with just 9 points separating everybody, there won't be much change in the overall table.

Zinman spluttered his way to the top this week with an entirely unspectacular 9 points thanks to 4 correct results including his bonus and the gamball (which, obviously he wimped out on). BaggieOne took second place and will stay in the promotion chase thanks to being the only recipient of the extra gamball points. Somerset scored on the week's high of 5 games but couldn't get a correct score and also lost out on his bonus so was only able to secure 3rd place. If only he'd played the gamball!

Stairs only got 2 results right but they happened to be his bonus and gamball (yes, you've guessed it - he didn't play it) - just 2 correct results but good enough for 4th place. A massive gap (this week a 2 point gap is massive!) to Silver - he actually got a correct score but was held back by his negative balls. A similar story for Joker without the correct score for a return of just 2 points.

Minizin may be our league leader but his recent struggles continued with just 2 correct results and just a single point - he was saved from being this week's minusman by his refusal to play the gamball.

DD and Lady Jane went into the week in the bottom 2 positions and given that both of them scored zero points, something tells me they'll still be there at the end of the weekend!

Minizin 270
Silver 251
Zinman 248
BaggieOne 244
Stairs 237
Somerset 230
Joker 217
DD 210
Lady Jane 200

No changes in overall positions this week. Minizin may be struggling recently but as nobody seems able to put a decent run together his position as champion looks all but assured (and it really pains me to write that - come on guys, do me a favour). The competition for the second promotion and play off places looks like it will go to the wire - Silver retains second place but Zinman is now only 3 points behind with BaggieOne just 4 points further back. Stairs and Somerset can't be discounted just yet - one good week would bring both of them into contention. Joker looks safe from having to apply for re-election (showing my age there - if anyone doesn't understand, ask your Grandad) particularly given DD and LJ's personal battle for bottom place.

Nearly there.

This evening our youths reached the semi final of the FA youth cup. After beating Spurs 5 0 in the last round tonight our kids beat Everton in the Quarter final with a comeback 2 1 win. We now play the thieving scumbags who pinch all our back room staff along with Louis Barry Aston vile in the Semi.second semi in 3 years.

LAST TIME OUT
BARNSLEY 1 ROTHERHAM UNITED 0

FORM GUIDE

PNE 15 BARNSLEY 16

Both sides in reasonably decent form

Last season we ended Stendel's reign as boss with a 5-1 victory which led to this memorable 22.03 minutes of what has been missed this season

Almost ended in tears

A lot has changed since then the Tykes are in the play offs and we have just got safe for another season which the Yorkshire side did only on the last day of last season.
New managee Ishmael's style of play has been criticised n some parts but obviously works as they are still in with a chance of the big time next season.

Scot Cup semi-final draw - it's Dundee United!!
Posted by: 0762 - 26-04-2021, 23:46 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (7)

Well it was the semi-final draw that I preferred and how prophetic was my wish in the Hibs v M'well OP. I reckon their defence is made for Hibs forwards to potentially run amok in this semi-final and I'm not fooled by their vg result v the Dons as I reckon that match was a tactical nightmare by their new manager, Stephen Glass, who didn't have the appropriate players to suddenly change his defensive formation to accommodate a strategy that they were not accustomed to playing. Bring it on!!

  2021 Women's World Championships
Posted by: ritchiebaby - 26-04-2021, 22:39 - Forum: Winter sports - Replies (21)

This year's Championships, like the Men's, is a qualifying event for the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. There are 14 teams involved with the European teams keen to continue the form of their Men's teams. Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, RCF, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and United States are the combatants with Eve Muirhead representing Scotland. Her team consists of Victoria Wright (Vice-Skip), Jennifer Dodds (2nd), Lauren Gray (Lead) with Sophie Sinclair as Alternate. You'll know the story about RCF by this time and they cannot be discounted. The current Olympic champions, Sweden, are there plus of course Switzerland, the current World Champions. Korea are back and I'm certain Canada and the USA will be desperate to improve on their Men's performance.

The event is being held with exactly the same protocols and procedures as the Men's with the same strict Covid regulations and checks. Unfortunately this has led to the discovery of two positive cases from the same team, one on Friday and the second yesterday. needless to say, with the event due to start on 30 April, this could lead to it going ahead with only 13 teams, maybe more depending on any known contacts.

Hopefully the way ahead will become clear well before Friday's start, with the Semi-finals due to take place on 8 May and the Medal Games on 9 May.

Cheltenham 1 Colchester 0

How many of our games lately have we won 1-0.??
Reminds me of a certain season some years ago when the Baggies gained promotion with similar score lines.

However another nervy scrappy display at best with Connor Thomas scoring the only goal with a two yard tap in. Even then it was in the eighty something minute.

Former Robins player Harry Pell, now Captain of Colchester, was very fortunate to stay on the park. Midway through the first half he pole axed a Cheltenham player with a two footed tackle that really warranted red.

Well now we need at most only one more point to secure automatic promotion and perhaps a couple more to win League 2 outright.

I am reliably informed that, although promoted to league one twice before, it has previously only been through the play offs.

So t'would be nice to get some silverware.

So Come on you Robins Thumb up Thumb up Thumb up
