THE MATCH
SATURDAY 15TH JANUARY KO 3:00 PM
v ![[Image: a0d40945413347.Y3JvcCw0NTM5LDM1NTIsMCwxMTY1.jpg]](https://mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net/projects/404/a0d40945413347.Y3JvcCw0NTM5LDM1NTIsMCwxMTY1.jpg)
LAST MATCH
We made it 2 defeats in a row as the Shrews beat us in our first game of the new year. We conceded from a set piece again, this time a corner, it does make you wonder what they do in training, oh hang on we do, they dribble around static cones thinking they can all play for Brazil After the 5-0 thrashing by Sunderland you would have expected a strong showing, but it took us an hour to test there keeper who made several saves. We applied some pressure towards the end of the game but we seemed to want to walk the ball in instead of firing in crosses.
NEXT MATCH
Next up and Plymouth travel up to Hillsborough. We have lost 3-0 twice to this lot, both at Holme park where our performances were embarrassing, although we did manage a draw in the FA Cup. We haven't managed to score yet against them either in 3 games, also Ryan Lowe isn't in charge anymore, but I doubt that will make much difference. Ryan Hardie is there leading scorer with 12 goals & 4 assists. We are already 6 points off the playoffs and defeat would only increase that deficit, although it might hasten the departure of DM, but with the Clown in charge he would probably get 5 year contract extension instead

Premier League
BaggieOne 16pts 1CS 5CR 0GB 9BB 1SB
Sanjay 13pts 1CS 5CR -3GB 6BB 2SB
Derby 11pts 1CS 5CR -3GB 3BB 1SB

BBB 7pts 1CS 5CR -3GB -3BB 1SB

Snooty 3pts 0CS 4CR -3GB -3BB 1SB
FA Cup round 3 and it was nice to see some shocks. Wins for Kidderminster, Hartlepool and Forest, a goal for Albion (the original one). In the prediction league, it all seemed a bit more....predictable. The gamball proved to be a killer. Only 1 player got the result right and guess what....yes, he chose not to play it. Every one who did lost points. The number of correct scores/results was alos very consistent - everyone got 4 or 5 results right and nobody got more than 1 correct score so it was the bonus balls that really made the differnce this week.
BaggieOne seems to have improved his performance over recent weeks and this continued as he sits on top of the table. He was helped by the astute use of his extra bonus ball getting 1 correct score and 1 correct result on the two he had to play. It could have been so much better though as he was the only player to predict a gamball win for Wigan without, of course, playing that ball. Sanjay takes second and was another to benfit from the extra balls, in his case 2 correct bonus results and 2 score ball points. Derby comes in 3rd, the same number of scores/results as the top 2 but losing points on his gamball and not having extra balls to play with.
AAA bucked the trend - only getting 4 correct results and not getting any scores right. Hiowever his decision not to gamble got him to 4th place just reaching double figures thanks to a correct bonus. Behind him 3 players on 7 points all with identical records with SCO a point further back thanks to his failure on the scoreball.
Snooty's at the foot of the table, no correct scores 4 correct results and losses on both the gamball and bonus.
Derby 202
BBB 168
Silver 168
SCO 164
Minizin 142
Sanjay 133
BaggieOne 126
Snooty 118
AAA 81
Derby breaks the 200 barrier to sit comfortably at the top. Just the one positional change this week witjh BaggieOne climbing ahead of Snooty in the desperate battle to avoid the drop. Apart from that, not much to be said.
Zin
Championship
Stairs 18pts 1CS 5CR NPGB 5BB 2SB
Twerton 13pts 2CS 3CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Blue Baggie 11pts 0CS 6CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Themaclad 11pts 0CS 6CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Zinman 7pts 1CS 4CR -3GB -3BB 1SB
Dingle 7pts 0CS 4CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Lady Jane 4pts 1CS 2CR -3GB -3BB 1SB
Salop 4pts 1CS 2CR -3GB -3BB 1SB
Amelia 1pts 0CS 3CR -3GB -3BB 1SB
This week we saw a complete whitewash on the Gamball, everyone got it wrong and aside from Stairs it cost everyone 3 points!! Maybe Zin will choose an easier game for all of us on this weeks Gamball ................or maybe he won't!!! %#*&%!!!!! Interestingly though everyone scored a point on the Scoreball, seems to be the easiest ball to score with!!
That "extra" 3 points helped Stairs top the scores this week with a fine 18 points. He only got one CS in his 6 scoring games but crucially managed it on the Bonus!! Twerton came in second with 13 points, he had a week's high 2CSs among his 5 scoring games. Blue and Themaclad are in joint 3rd place with 11 points gained in identical ways!!
Zinman and Dingle share 5th spot with 7 points, Zin missed on both balls but Dingle failed to score a CS to keep them level. The bottom three all suffered getting the Gamball and Bonus wrong and that hurt their scores as it always does. Lady Jane and Salop ended with 4 points and Amelia is bottom with just a single point.
173 - Stairs
172 - Blue Baggie
157 - Lady Jane
148 - Salop
140 - Zinman
137 - Themaclad
134 - Dingle
107 - Amelia
84 - Twerton
Blue has led the table every week so far this season but Stairs has finally caught up to him and has now overtaken him to take top spot!! The lead is only one point but the mental effect of losing first place will be tested for Blue in the coming weeks!! LJ maintains her 3rd spot with a bit of a gap to the 4 in the chasing pack. Amelia is well and truly adrift in second bottom and if Twerton can keep this weeks form he might just be able to catch up to her.
Cheers

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points
The random badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."
The joker is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.
Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. Similarly with the badger, if your random prediction is affected by this, it'll be half the points.
Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in.
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.
NEW FOR THIS SEASON: End of season Play Offs.
The one who finishes top of the league will still be champion, but after the season finishes there will be Play Offs between the top 4, with 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. This will take in stuff like the EFL Play Offs, FA Cup Final, final day of Prima Donna League, European Finals etc. It will be one matchday for the semis and one for the Final. It will be the individual scores for each matchday against the allotted opponent, with some kind of tie breaker for a drawn match.
So last season's matches would've been Baggiebob(BBB) v theo_luddite and jjamez v St Charles Owl and would've given a bit more to play for towards the back end of the season.
The prize for winning will be enormous. Another rep point.
We now have an Appeals Committee set up, consisting of me, myself and I. All appeals must be made before the next Matchday kicks off.
Saturday 15th January:
Town v Swansea
Town scorers:
Swansea scorers:
Cardiff City v Blackburn Rovers (12:30)
Luton Town v AFC Bournemouth (12:30)
Barnsley OFF Blackpool
Derby County v Sheffield United
Fulham v Bristol City
Middlesbrough v Reading
Millwall v Nottingham Forest
Peterborough United v Coventry City
Preston North End v Birmingham City

Sunday 16th January:
Hull City v Stoke City (12:00)
Tuesday 18th January:
Fulham v Birmingham City
Preston North End v Sheffield United
Wednesday 19th January:
Hull City v Blackburn Rovers
Reading v Luton Town
Table after Matchday 24:
- Baggiebob(BBB) = 590 pts
- jjamez = 535 pts
- theo_luddite = 517 pts
- St Charles Owl = 508 pts
- neonfoxinthebox = 506 pts
- Lord Snooty = 505 pts
- themaclad = 486 pts
- SHEP_HTAFC = 462 pts
- WakeyTerrier = 436 pts
- ritchiebaby = 427 pts
- Amelia Chaffinch = 393 pts

| WBA vs Brighton - FA Cup Third Round Match Thread |

With the league campaign lurching from one crisis to another, the cup arrives as a welcome distraction, as is all too often the case for Albion. This year we've had the dubious delight of being drawn for just the second time ever against Brighton, the first time being three years ago as the wheels came off under Big Dave. The replay in that tie was one of four defeats we've suffered in our last five FA Cup matches at home, while Brighton have been knocked out in the third round only twice in a dozen years. It's not a great outlook, even before you factor in our traditionally poor record against Premier League opposition in the tournament and the number of suspensions we face.
A token showing and surrender by a second-string side tomorrow, then? Obviously I hope not, but the precedent for it is strong. Nevertheless, after a poor festive period the chances are running out for Ismael to demonstrate that he's the man to take Albion forward, and even if an upset in this tie is unlikely, a lacklustre or indifferent performance would do him no favours at all. No matter who makes the starting eleven, a good showing is the bare minimum required.

This morning Chester Football Club was invited to a meeting with representatives of North Wales Police, Flintshire County Council, Cheshire Police and Cheshire West & Chester Council.
During this meeting, the Club was given a joint letter on behalf of North Wales Police and Flintshire County Council which outlines potential breaches of Welsh Coronavirus Regulations at our fixtures on 28th December 2021 and 2nd January 2022.
It also states the Club may commit further potential breaches if it continues to play home fixtures with crowds while the current restrictions in Wales remain in place.
We were informed this was based upon direction from the Welsh Government that the premises of Chester Football Club are governed by the Welsh Regulations. The Welsh Government was not represented at the meeting.
It was agreed that all parties would seek further legal advice given the complex issues and future implications of any outcome.
We will provide a further update to our supporters as soon as we are able to.

Just seen on the internet an article about the top ten FA cup giant killings.
This was based on matches over the last fifty years, apparently due to lack of data and format changes preventing going back further. They used league positions, mathematics, probability.
The winning game with odds of nearly 16 million to 1 was:-
No surprise to older baggies
1991 West Brom 2 Woking 4
The odds were made greater because Albion took the lead and lead 1 - 0 at half time, before a momentous second half collapse saw us concede 3 goals in eleven minutes, we then went 4 - 1 down in the dying minutes before a late consolation made it slightly less embarrassing. I was there, I remember a static Albion back line that watched three up and understand go over their heads before their strike ran on to score each time. Time may have corrupted my memory slightly in relation to our defensive frailties. I do recall Albion fans backing Woking towards the end and singing we want five whilst 4 - 1 down.
At least we're top of something.
