Biggest ever FA cup giant killing - 4evaabaggie - 07-01-2022 Just seen on the internet an article about the top ten FA cup giant killings. This was based on matches over the last fifty years, apparently due to lack of data and format changes preventing going back further. They used league positions, mathematics, probability. The winning game with odds of nearly 16 million to 1 was:- No surprise to older baggies 1991 West Brom 2 Woking 4 The odds were made greater because Albion took the lead and lead 1 - 0 at half time, before a momentous second half collapse saw us concede 3 goals in eleven minutes, we then went 4 - 1 down in the dying minutes before a late consolation made it slightly less embarrassing. I was there, I remember a static Albion back line that watched three up and understand go over their heads before their strike ran on to score each time. Time may have corrupted my memory slightly in relation to our defensive frailties. I do recall Albion fans backing Woking towards the end and singing we want five whilst 4 - 1 down. At least we're top of something. RE: Biggest ever FA cup giant killing - Lord Snooty - 07-01-2022 Maths is a bit wrong I think. If we're looking at the same one. No place for Colchester beating the mighty Leeds Urinals from the Don Revie era? And more recently the Cowley boys with Lincoln of the Conference knocking out Premier League Giants Burnley? ![]() RE: Biggest ever FA cup giant killing - 4evaabaggie - 07-01-2022 Snoots, I went via a link to the mail on line, their figures show the odds of 15.952 million to 1. Not sure how their formula works or how they came up with that result, experts from bath university did the research. If I remember correctly it was to do with league positions, the fact we scored first and led at half time but the odds do seem a little high. RE: Biggest ever FA cup giant killing - talkSAFT - 07-01-2022 I don't think my old Sunday team (we're all in our 70s) v Man City could get 16m to 1, even if their star player (me) turned up with his usual hangover. RE: Biggest ever FA cup giant killing - drewks - 07-01-2022 A NEAR big FA Cup shock was this time last year in the 4th round ... Cheltenham 1 Man City 3 .... score seems comfortable for MC but all their goals were in the last 10 minutes. A CTFC win must've been at least 20 - 1 odds at kick off?! RE: Biggest ever FA cup giant killing - Amelia Chaffinch - 07-01-2022 Leeds losing to Hereford, Histon, Rochdale, Newport and Crawley. Take your pick. They're all good.
