  England v India - the 5th ODI
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 04-09-2014, 23:31 - Forum: Cricket - Replies (3)

England v India
The 5th ODI Match
Friday 5th September
at Headingley
starting at 10:30

And so to the much anticipated series decider in front of a packed house at Headingley.........well......hmmm!
The packed house bit is right. Most of the tickets have been sold as Yorkshire CCC seek desperately to hold on to their test match status. Thankfully advance sales have been good, otherwise this could really have been a massive damp squib.
The home crowd therefore will be looking to cheer on two of their own as Joe Root and Gary Ballance play on their home ground. Both will definitely play as Ian Bell is out with a broken toe.
Even though this is a dead rubber, the Indians are expected to field their strongest, unchanged XI.

England squad: Alastair Cook ©, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Jos Buttler (w), Steven Finn, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes.

India squad: Mahendra Dhoni (c & w), Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Stuart Binny, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Umesh Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Sanju Samson (w), Karn Sharma, Murali Vijay.

  Missing Players
Posted by: Stairs - 04-09-2014, 20:50 - Forum: Jumpers for goal posts - Replies (1)

I was a reasonable player. A striker. I played for Juniors, Seniors, Clubs, Scouts and a few local clubs and could score with regularity.

Playing as a teenager for a local team one of our fixtures was against a borstal. Normally both the 'Home' and 'Away' fixture were played at their ground, for obvious reasons. But one year, they were allowed to visit us, in the country.

Our pitch was set outside a village. You changed in the village hall and then walked to the ground just outside the village. Normally the opposition changed in the same place and walked up with us. But the 'Borstal Boys' came ready dressed for football and piled out of a minibus at the ground.

The game was good. We won. I scored a few, but I do recall their captain encouraging them while it was still close by shouting 'come on lads, if we win it's baked beans for tea'. But the reason for remembering the match so well was, at full-time when the lads piled into the minibus they were two players short.

When we looked around to find them, we spotted them. They had crossed a corn field and were breaking through a hedge and scarpering. Not sure when they were recovered or even if they ever were.

This has been / is being developed because New606 is not working properly. Various fixes need to be done and aren't being. It is the idea of a long-standing member, aka Stairs. He is a trusted poster who we believe has our best interests at heart. We want to create a place that we can all move to in order to stay together and for it to be as much like the format that attracted us to New606 but be one that works! But we also want it to progress, stay fresh and up-to-date. We believe the admin of this site will listen to us and make the changes that we want, if they're feasible. Therefore, if you have any suggestions, post them here:

  New Date for Swindon Fixture
Posted by: spireitematt - 04-09-2014, 19:50 - Forum: Chesterfield - No Replies

The re-arranged date for Swindon at home is on Tuesday 28th October 7:45 ko.

All because Swindon have got 3 international players on international duty and are worried that it will make a big difference, I bet they wouldn't do it for us if we had players on international duty.

Suggestions for changes to the forum
Posted by: St Charles Owl - 04-09-2014, 17:50 - Forum: Sheffield Wednesday - Replies (168)

Guys

As we get this up and running there are undoubtedly going to be some teething issues and things we would like to see improved, changed or added. Rather than posting these in existing threads I have added this thread so that we can keep these suggestions in one place as they arise.

I promise to make Mark and Stairs aware of them all and so far they have been quick to respond and implement things. I cannot promise that all of them will get done but I am happy to suggest the things that you want.

Please don't repeat the ones already posted, I will take care of those now.
