HTAFC Prediction League 2017/18 Matchday 38
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 15-04-2018, 21:53 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (12)

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did last year.  Rolleyes

I sit here writing this talking about next season and all I can think is how xxxx depressing it is right now. How have we got to this? Honestly? 3 years ago we were on the verge of gaining promotion to the Championship and playing 2nd division for the first time since 1951 and now we are all but relegated to Non-League for the first time in the club's history. Even you Blue can't put a positive spin on this. Dancing was right and so was Dev as well they foresaw it before you and I did and we kept the faith and tried to be optimistic but they could see the writing was on the wall like some mystic meg.

Questions need to be asked as to what happens now. Is there going to be a team next season in the Conference? or will Chesterfield fold and we end up missing out a season while a fan owned phoenix club is formed via the fans and we start playing the season after in the Northern Eastern Counties League or whatever its called. Will we be in the Conference and be a part-time club with semi-professional players? Can we afford to play in the Conference especially with the stadium and the amount of money it will cost to run full-time and not to mention it costs about £1.5 million to gain promotion out of the Conference back into the Football League. Could we do a Mansfield and be stuck in there for about 7 years or do a Stockport County and drop down another league into Conference North.

If we are in the Conference next season a lot of teams are going to be up for visiting the Proact because it will be like there cup final to go and get 3pts off us at home because our ground and pitch will be like Wembley compared to some of the stadia in the National League. Also we could have the biggest ground in the National League or second biggest depending on if Tranmere gain promotion back to L2 or Stockport gaining promotion into the National League.

The other big question is what is going to happen to the current squad? Will they have their contracts cancelled or will they decide to take a pay cut and continue playing for the side in non-league because I very much doubt that. These are the players who are still under contract.

OOC 2018; Evatt, Hird, Parkin (gk), Brownell, Weir, Talbot, Coke

OOC 2019; German, Barry, Anyon (gk), Wiseman, Ugwu, Wakefield (youth team), Sinnott, Binnom-Williams, Brewster, Maguire, O'Grady, McCourt, Dennis, Willock, Hines, Kay, Dodds, Smith

OOC 2020; Whitmore

OOC 2021; Rowley

I expect a lot of these players to be sold or to be released if the club can afford it. I would keep Evatt, Talbot, Hird, German, Ugwu, Wakefield, Binnom-Williams, Willock, Kay, Dodds, Smith, Whitmore. I expect Rowley and Dennis to be sold and the others probably buy out there own contracts unless there is some relegation clause.

Reading Bob's Board I see that fans are starting to get fed up of Lester's tactics especially with playing 1 upfront and also the team selection. I expected whoever came to the club as manager would find it a difficult challenge but we can't keep sacking managers when it's going bad. Since Cook left in 2015 we've got through 4 managers. FOUR!. Right now the club needs stability and I think Lester should be given a chance in the Conference (that's if there is a club) to turn this around because something has to click soon.

Celtic v Rangers - the 'treble' beckons again!
Posted by: 0762 - 14-04-2018, 18:57 - Forum: Celtic - Replies (11)

One more day to go before the Hoops 'lock horns' with the Huns in this latest Scottish Cup semi-final and it's a case of Rodgers fielding his all round strongest side to 'snuff out' any Rangers challenge - a case of Celtic 'showing up' and giving Gers a good skelping or not 'showing up' and giving them a chance to win. Again I'd suggest to Rodgers that focusing on Tavernier's defensive position will definitely be a successful ploy. He has the resources to win it well. I'll predict a 3-0 or 4-0 win and expect the Hoops to be well up for this challenge and, of course, target the 'carrot' of facing Motherwell in the final, the Steelmen being rank outsiders just like in their previous league cup final. IMO the only conceivable threat will be the provision of a 'dodgy SFA ref' who could affect the course of this match - witnessed this practise in certain previous semi-finals, deja vu.

You've only come to see the Albion: a capacity crowd at Old Trafford watch the Reds vs the Baggies in the cup, 5th March 1958

After getting a long-awaited point on the board last weekend, the effort to salvage some pride from this shocker of a season continues on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford. Once again, there's really no pressure on Big Dave in the dugout, and only one result looks likely. It'd be typical Albion to start fighting now the war's lost, so we can always hope. They can't take that away from us, eh?

Hibs kids reach another Scottish Youth Cup final!
Posted by: 0762 - 13-04-2018, 00:09 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (2)

In a tight match at ER Stadium on a cold, weather beaten night for footie, Hibs 0 Celtic 0 at FT and the same after ET. A pk decider ensued and the Hibs dev team 'delivered the goods' with a decisive 4-2 win with Olie Shaw scoring the 4th goal to seal the win v a stuffy Celtic youth team that was a tad 'punchless' up front during this game. Hibs definitely the better team on the night and deserved this victory. Well done! Thumb up
