The Swans were formed in 1912 as Swansea Town. They switched to Swansea City in 1969 in line with Swansea itself becoming a city. They played at Vetch Field from 1912 until 2005 when they moved to the Liberty Stadium.
Vetch Field played host to a couple of concerts. The Who in 1976.
And Stevie Wonder in 1984.
Swansea City are one of the better known clubs to have supporter involvement. Their supporters society owns 20% of the club, giving them a decent say in how it is run.
Probably their most successful spell will be their promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2011 until their relegation in 2018. Prior to that, they had their lows, too; back to back relegations and threat of liquidation. We know that feeling.
CONTROVERSY
Liquidation pales in comparison to the darkest days in the Swans' history. Violence, fighting, gamesmanship, assault. I am of course referring to Cyril the Swan, the long-necked hotheaded club mascot. Had a famous set-to with Millwall's Zampa the Lion, ripping his head off and drop kicking it across the pitch, uttering the phrase "don't @#*% with the swans" attracting a £1,000 fine. Fights with other mascots and stewards have led to charges of bringing the game into disrepute. He has thrown pork pies onto the pitch v West Ham and had a skirmish with Norwich City's assistant coach Brian Hamilton. That got him a two-match touchline ban. He was arrested for an alleged assault on another mascot during the Mascot Grand National but charges were dropped.
If you have been affected by any of these issues, get in touch with the Victims of Mascot Intimidation Team. A VOMIT facilitator will help you bring up any issues.
He's said to have calmed down since his marriage to Cybil.
Head to Head
We have 23 wins to their 14 in the league and 15 draws. We have only met once in the FA Cup and that went the Swans way. Our last meetings were in the premier league 2017-18 season. We lost 2-0 away and only managed a 0-0 draw at home against 10 men after Jordan Ayew was sent off on 11 mins.
That's Michael Oliver sending off Jordan Ayew
Prior to that we last played in 2008.
Form
Swansea 0-1 Millwall

League positions
Yesterday's results meant that Swansea dropped to 6th from 4th on 29 points.
Our draw didn't change our league position; we remain 19th but now have 17 points.
Played for both
Paul Reid
Pawel Abbott
Manager
Only appointed in June this year, Steve Cooper was a defender in his playing career. He was only contracted for 5 years from 1998 until 2003 and, even then, didn't get a game until he joined The New Saints from Wrexham in 1999. Despite his short career, he has played in an actual UEFA Cup match for Bangor City (the club he had most appearances for) against FK Sartid Smederevo. No 8 on this page if you want to read all it
He began his coaching badges whilst still playing and, before Swansea, all his coaching roles have been youth teams; Wrexham, Liverpool, England U16, England U17. This is what was said at the time of his appointment: Steve Cooper appointed as Swansea City manager
That's all you're getting. Toodlepip.
Hope

The start of a new era under Jack Ross begins at ER Stadium v the "steel men" who have had a good season so far compared with the "cabbage n ribs". I'm hoping that is about to change tomorrow on a match day which is gonna be dreich in terms of the weather conditions and that scenario will prob be a "leveller". Hopefully Hibs will "come through it" with a win that will "kick start" JR's management career at ER. It will be curious to see what his starting line up will be for this game although I suspect he'll follow Edie May's instructions on "who's who" as he has just literally "walked through the front door" of ER stadium. So no time to fully assess all the players who are available for this game. C'mon Hibs!

The final of the Copa Libertadores will be shown on BBC Two on Saturday night at 7:45pm.
It is in Lima, Peru and it is the defending champions River Plate versus Flamengo. Argentina’s current 4th placed team vs Brazil’s current runaway league leaders.
Let’s hope there’s no trouble like there was in last years final. The fact that it’s in a different country and a stand-alone match should help.

Back to back home games signal Albion's return to the promotion chase, with both opponents tough customers. First up on Saturday we host Sheffield Wednesday, who held us to a hard-fought draw in both of last season's encounters, and remain just outside the playoffs so far this year. Though a likely points deduction by the EFL - perhaps even heavier than the 9 taken from Birmingham in March - will certainly push them down the ladder, Wednesday remain a capable side with three away wins under their belt this campaign, and all the more reason to scrap for points in the face of uncertainty.
For Bristol City the situation is much clearer: with a foot already in the playoffs, and coming to the Hawthorns off the back of an away win at Cardiff, there's every reason to go for broke and consolidate their position. Last season's encounter coincided with our best run under Big Dave, and resulted in a convincing 4-2 Albion win; it'll take some hard work and inspiration to replicate that next Wednesday.

Liam Shaw is apparently an athletic box-to-box midfielder. He's 18 and has been with Sheffield Wednesday's academy since he was 8. We've got him on a month's loan.
I like the sound of box-to-box, we do have two of them and we're usually deeper in one than we'd like.

Off to the East Midlands on Saturday to play a side who we have not beaten since our return to the Championship, although we have a poor record against them, we are quite good at getting their managers potted, McLaren and Rowett both left soon after their failure to beat us.
Under manager Cocu they are under performing this season and off the field problems seem to have impacted on them. losing Keogh through the drink drive raceathon was a blow and so was the fall out from it. Also in the background is the possible points deduction for the slightly sneeky buying their own ground back from themselves to get their way round FFP.
Add it to that renowned granny shagger Rooney apears to be having his wages paid by a betting company when he finally arrives to play which has also gone down like a lead balloon in some quarters.
Errant driver Lawrence will be available having luckily managed to avoid a red card in the local derby against the Trees.
All in all it's time for us to end the run of naff results against this lot.
Pearson should return from suspension, hopefully DJ will as well, over 2000 away fans will be rocking up as we now enter a very important phase of the season
Match Officials: Derby County Away
It was March of this year the last time Saturday’s match official, Tim Robinson, took charge of the Lilywhites, the goalless draw at home to Nottingham Forest.
Prior to that, we saw the referee in December 2017. That game, a 1-0 win at home to Sheffield United, saw Robinson as the man with the whistle at a PNE game, for the second time in three weeks.
Tim, from West Sussex, in his eighth year on the EFL list and was the match official for the 1-1 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road in November that same season.
Before that, he last took charge of North End in his first trip to Deepdale, when we overcame Birmingham City 2-1 back in March of the previous season.
That was his fourth game overall in charge of the Lilywhites, the others all being away trips; Brentford, Ipswich and a 2-0 victory at Coventry City when Joe Garner and club captain Tom Clarke were on the scoresheet.
This will be his 12th game of the season, his last being table-toppers West Brom’s 2-0 win at Stoke City, in front of the Sky Sports cameras three weeks ago. This season he has issued 35 cautions and one red in those previous 11 games.
This is his second Derby game of the season, having overseen their 2-2 away draw with Stoke City back in August.
The assistants on Saturday afternoon will be Jonathan Hunt and Mark Jones, whilst the fourth official assigned to the game is Alan Young.
