  Prediction League Scores/Tables Week 3
Posted by: bomberbrown1968 - 29-09-2020, 10:13 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (18)

Player Pts CS CR GB BB SB
Sanjay 18 3 3 -3 6 1

B.B.B. 12 3 3 -3 -3 0

Bomber 2 1 2 -3 -3 0
St Charles 0 0 3 -3 -3 0
Snooty -6 0 0 -3 -3 0

Well this was a strange week where good ball playing was a rarity with most players missing them completely!! Everyone who played the Gamball got it wrong and only two players scored points on the bonus and only three on the scoreball. We also saw the first minimum score of the season!!

Sanjay sits at the top this week with a fine 18 points courtesy of 3 CSs including the Bonus ball and he scored on 6 games in total. Joint second went to our alphabetical pair - AAA and BBB with 12 points. AAA got no CS which even though he scored a CR on the bonus kept him from a big week, whereas BBB got 3 CSs but missed on all his balls to keep his score down.

Amelia comes in 4th place on 9 points. Like a lot of others she scored well, getting points on 5 games but like everyone else she missed on the Gamball and the Bonus. She did get the scoreball which kept her one point above Derby in 5th, who scored on 6 games but those balls are important for a reason. Themaclad is in 6th spot on 6 points, not a great return for scoring on half of the games, as did Twerton who ended with only 4 points in 7th spot.

Our reigning champion Bomber continues with his struggles, picking up only 2 points in 8th place, but that was two points better than SCO in 9th spot whose good start came to a crashing halt with a big fat zero!! Lord Snooty also saw his good start to the season falter when he managed to get every prediction incorrect and picked up a minimum score of -6!!!!

In the table that Bomber will confirm, BBB rises to the top, pushing SCO into 2nd spot. Sanjay’s good week will see him rise into the top 3. Twerton and Bomber will be filling the relegation sports after poor weeks again.

Cheers
SCO

I generally enjoy spending a few minutes on a sunny Sunday afternoon writing up this rubbish but just occasionally it becomes an especially enjoyable week - guess which one this is?
A wide spread of scores this week and for once the gamball scorers don't feature at the top of the table. Obviously Albion's result wasn't predicted by anybody (even at half time I'd probably have stayed with an away win) and 5 of you also blew your bonus balls in this game. Our friendly neighbours no-show at West Ham also hurt, producing a second negative scoring match.

This week's high flyer is OneTrueBaggie (apart from his failure to play the gamball on the correct match!!!!) with 7 correct predictions including 1 correct score. He also scored on his bonus and scoreball to give him a 2 point lead over Stairs in 2nd place. Stairs was the only player to get 2 correct scores and, like 1TB, didn't play the gamball. Unfortunately in Stairs' case it cost him 6 points as the Preston - Stoke game was one of his correct scores! Joker also got the gambal lmatch score correct but in his case he was brave enough to play it, though by missing out on his other balls the 10point game was only good enough to give him 3rd place.

Zinman and Somerset continued their consistent starts to the season, now the only 2 participants to have reached double figures in all 3weeks. Zin only got 4 correct results but was helped by his 1 correct score being the bonus. Both chose not to play the gamball, wisely in Zin's case but costing Somerset 3 important points - will he continue his non gambling policy? DD was the second person to gain points on the gamball but this only helped him to 6th place in the table. BaggieOne got 6 predictions correct but unfortunately for him they didn't include either of his balls and had to settle for 8 points where he ties with Minizin, another one grateful for wimping out on his gamball. Silver's 6 points at least represents an improvement on his previous weeks' showings but won't help to lift him up the overall table and Lady Jane's dreadful start to the season continued with just 2 points.

Have I missed anyone? Oh, yes, Beefy, how could I forget. I can safely say that the cream he was on about has well and truly curdled as Beefy becomes the first Championship player this season to register a negative score. A truly awful just 1 correct prediction with negatives on both his balls though he did at least have the consolation of a scoreball point as he returned to the form of last season.

Beefy's momentous week means changes to the overall table where he has disappeared from the leaderboard. 1TB's great week takes him to the top with Zinman remaining in 2nd. The chasing pack has tightened up but Silver and Lady Jane are already falling some way behind at the foot of the table.

On to next week - and 1TB - get your gamball on the right game!!

  That's a tough ask!
Posted by: silverbaggie - 28-09-2020, 17:09 - Forum: Cheltenham - No Replies

Just our luck that only two matches were postponed on Saturday due to Covid and our game against Grimsby just happened to be one of them.

It's alright saying we now have a game in hand but, I have just been looking at our fixture list for the month of October. Believe it or not but we are scheduled to play no less than eight games within the month.
That IMHO is a recipe for disaster.

Just a few injuries and our chances of having a run at promotion, will disappear before Xmas.

I know ,I know it's the same for a lot of other teams too, but I ask you!
With such a small squad the Managers options for rotation will be sorely tested. Doh

HTAFC Prediction League 2020/21 Matchday 5
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 27-09-2020, 19:50 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (15)

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

  Friendlies too friendly?
Posted by: Devongone - 27-09-2020, 18:30 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (2)

Couldn't win or even score against Guiseley or Alfreton. Our new goalie has caught something, but it is probably the virus.

Jonathan Wafula, who we developed, was so pleased to be back he scored. Against us of course.

And I read Rochdale paid Solihull a fee to sign Jake Beesley, who wasn't good enough for us, and who played 88 minutes at Portman Road on Saturday.

Mind you Conor Townsend didn't look that much for us and he was 3-0 up against Chelsea when we were losing to Guiseley.

Kakay's in QPR's team so his time under Caldwell is finally paying off, whilst Ricky German was dropped back to the bench by Crawley who immediately scored three, but it was at Oldham who are currently concentrating on getting David Wheater lout of the door at gunpoint.

Gary Roberts has done his hamstring so will be out for six weeks, which should give Wigan's owner chance to have sold most things before his return. He's 38 and still going, you have to admire him.

On Friday Tendayi Darikwa was finally considered good enough by Forest to be an unused sub as they failed to trouble Huddersfield. That was a promotion! Apparently he is rated as third choice right back for them. How can you possibly be bottom of the undeducted Championship if your squad is that good? It baffles me. Don't managers want to score goals? Full back, midfield, or wing he runs at opponents and causes them trouble. Sure he loses the ball sometimes, but he is brave, committed and loyal. Somebody with a need to score should sign him!

Pembo threw a bluey about protocols rather than our powderpuff forward line, leaving us to wonder whether the entire squad going into isolation might be our best hope of not losing to Wealdstone.

Whyteleafe's star player yesterday was DAMI OLURUNNISOMO. I know nothing else about him, but with a lovely name like that I am sure we should be signing him.

So like Kyle Letheren's nose our season starts streaming next week. Anybody think we've a chance?

  Orient covid and out

Tottenham have been given a bye into the Carabao Cup fourth round after their tie with Leyton Orient was called off when a number of the League Two club's players tested positive for Covid-19.

Now this is setting a terrible precedent. What if West Ham, who had players tested positive during the week, have to cancel their Premier League game at the weekend? Do they have to forfeit that? I'm sure Aberdeen had a league game cancelled a few weeks ago and didn't receive such a punishment.

And I bet if it was Spurs who had cancelled, there would've been a different outcome to this situation. Angry

Celtic v Hibs, Sun 27 Sept, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 25-09-2020, 12:04 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (12)

Hibs take on Celtic after the Hoops return from another demanding away Euro quali tie in Latvia and IMO this could be a good time to play them - we shall see! I wanna see Jack Ross deploying a solid mid-defensive line again but favouring a decent hi-press attacking strategy on Celtic's defence as I don't think they have been too impressive in recent times. Also lets "test out tired legs" in this match. Push on to the likes of Broony in the mid area as I perceive that he is not performing as well as in previous seasons. C'mon Hibs - lets try to make a game of it and win this match! It is a "top of the table" clash and why not try to catch up with them at this early stage of the season.

https://www.thenational.scot/news/187448...us-crisis/

So the British tax payer will make sure Lizzy and all her estates and hangers-on will be "assisted" in the proper way in order to mitigate any hardship during this tough period and at a time when the UK govt has declared record debt > £2T and rising!!! Thank god for that eh and good to see the Brit govt getting their priorities right during such a time of crisis when lotsa businesses will "go to the wall" and many people will be struggling with quite a lot of them possibly being forced to use food banks. Seriously though, this country and many within govt and the population really live within some kinda time warp going back to the 17th-18th century when it comes to this reverence and priority given to such a wealthy royal dynasty - just study the profits and value of the Crown Estate alone and wonder WTF is going on re proper values and re-evaluation of the modern way ahead for this country. I think Thailand and the UK are the only countries that still behave in this way where a small political elite group of people, together with their wealthy associates, swarm around the Royal family like bees and endorse the whole outdated system of patronage and favour that is engendered.

  Dogs vs Trees the rematch

So where do we begin? Only a couple of months ago did the two sides meet, with town coming away with a 3-1 defeat, with hidden attacker karlan grant nabbing a consolation penalty before full time, whilst juninho bacuna got a straight red for a mindless tackle.

Since then town managed to secure survival for this season, whilst the reds managed to squander a good playoff position to fall out on the final day of the season to secure another season for themselves in the second tier of english football.

[Image: csportfoto0_Nottingham-Forest-v-Stoke-Ci...95x385.jpg]

The two sides have begun the new season in similar fashion to one and other, with two back to back defeats along with being eliminated from the league cup. The reds began the campaign with a 1-0 defeat away at barnsley in the cup, cauley woodrow bagging the only goal of the game. The season itself started away at queens park rangers where they suffered a 2-0 defeat thanks to goals from australian scotsman lyndon dykes and an injury time goal from illias chair. The second league game saw them host cardiff city, however the result was just the same thanks to two goals from bargain signing of the summer kieffer moore. The poor start coupled with the absolute bottle job at the end of the last season has seen Sabri Lamouchi become immediately under threat, despite only signing a new contract before the end of last season.

So from one free scoring side, to another, town. we started our campaign in the league cup away at rochdales john smiths stadium... and despite it being against a lower league opposition and on home turf, we still managed to come away with a 1-0 defeat and barely any attempts on goal. The league campaign itself started at freshly relegated Norwich city,  and in my opinion, whilst we werent awful as such, we were highly defensive, rarely threating if at all the canaries goal, and it took a richard stearman error to gift the visitors the points. Our first away game down at Brentfords new ground was awful, the first half we made it difficult for them, but they still could have had a couple of goals, the second half minus harry toffolo and christopher schindler we managed to capitulate, and yes there was two well taken goals, the second showed how amateurish our defending is/has been and highlighted the same problems that have maligned us for many a year, we simply do not know how to defend.

So what has changed upon the banks of the trent? Well, in a time where town fans have been told by the club it is difficult to sign players due to covid and teams wont be splashing much cash around, forest have signed 10 new players or is it 11 with more still to come.

so the new tricky trees to be planted by Lamouchi are;

Abdoulaye Diallo- A french Senegalese goalkeeper who joined on a free transfer from turkish side Genclerbirligi Ankara (fit that in a chant). the 28 year old has spent the vast majority of his career in the second tier of french football and will be expected to challenge current number 1 Brice Samba.

Cyrus Christie- The former derby man joined on loan from fulham last week and will be in contention to make his debut for the reds this week. he may have a bit of a honeymoon period with the fans not being in the ground, having played 119 times for their arch rivals. The irish fullback made his name originally at coventry and was once muted as a possible town target to replace jack hunt.

Tyler Blackett- the former man united trainee joined forest on a free transfer from reading not long after the season had finished, capable of playing centre back or left back, he featured for reading in the play off final against town, which seems so long ago now. what has happened to us?

[Image: tommy-smith-of-huddersfield-town-tackles...d689708400]

Scott Mckenna- The most recent of the additions, the giant scot signed from aberdeen this week for a reported 3million fee which could rise to over 7. only last summer did celtic try to sign him for 7 rising to 10, i guess covid has hit some sides hard then? The highly rated scot came through the aberdeen academy and will be available for his debut this friday against town.

Loic mbe Soh- French Cameroonian defender that signed from french giants PSG, highly thought of there, so a bit surprising they let him go, but I suppose with the vast amounts of oil money there, his route into the first team would be massively hindered. Forest are reported to have paid over 4million for him and he is expected to be part of their under 23s to start off.

Jack Colback- spent time on loan at the city ground the other season and became a bit of a fan favourite, has now rejoined the club after his contract with newcastle expired

Fouad Bachirou- another of french/african heritage, the comoros midfielder joined forest from swedish side Malmo for 600k. The midfielder began his career at PSG but failed to make an appearance for the first team and left for another European giant of football, Morton, before moving to Swedish football. Is expected to miss out tomorrow through injury.

Harry Arter- Signed almost out of the blue from bournemouth the other day. spent last season out on loan at fulham managed by brother in law scott parker, fulham had the option to turn the deal into a permanent one, but decided not to upon promotion. Has spent the vast majority of his career in the top two leagues of english football and has also represented Ireland on the international stage.

Luke Freeman- tricky little attacking midfielder on loan from Sheffield United with the view to a permanent transfer. Another that was muted as a possible town signing a few years back before and after he joined bristol city. Nothing ever materialised in that again and he went on to spend a couple of seasons at QPR.

Lyle Taylor- The former charlton striker spent the back end of last season refusing to sign a new contract or to play in the fear of an injury costing him a move to a bigger club. Was linked with moves to the continent but ended up on the banks of the trent.

Miguel Angel Guerrero- signed on a 2 year deal from  Olympiakos who are also owned by forests current owner. Spent time at gijon and leganes prior to moving to greece. Doesnt seem to have been the most prolific but may find the second tier of english football to his liking.

In regards to outgoings, combative midfielder ben watson, goalkeepers luke steele and costel pantilimon were all released upon the expiry of their contracts. Liam bridcutt turned his deal at lincoln permanent, whilst tyler walker joined coventry on an undisclosed deal, but the big money came from matty cash departing to join premier league aston villa.

But dont worry our board have a 3 year maybe 5 year plan, every club wont be signing players for lots of money or signing loads of players... Now does that claim actually live up? well most teams arent actually spending masses of money, with a lot of loans and free transfers being conducted, although frees still cost money in regards to signing on fees and wages. you have forest who have signed 11 players, for over 8million, but have sold matty cash for 12mil+, norwich have spent 8mil on 10 players, but are being subsidised by the parachute payments, jamal lewis' transfer fee and delia smiths new cook book. birmingham and coventry have both welcomed 9 new faces to st andrews, birmingham obviously have the bellingham money burning holes in their pocket, whilst coventry finding 1 and a half million for players but no money for a ground which is odd. the two other promoted sides have both welcomed 7 new faces, as have perenial ffp breakers derby, who have managed to splurge 4 mil on an unknown pole, whilst jordan ibe wont be on a cheap contract, again baffling how they get away with it. meanwhile, sheffield wednesday fresh from their deduction have signed 6. Speaking of 6, 6 clubs have welcomed 5 new faces, town being one of them, with the others being watford, bristol, swansea, stoke and qpr. Qpr having made a hefty profit on eze, watford having made a lot from player sales. amongst the other sides, brentford have spent 6mil, but have sold watkins, cardiff managed to snare moore for 2mil, with preston and bournemouth both yet to make a signing, with bournemouth raking in over 60million for ake and wilson alone.

now would towns approach to the market change if and when the likes of kongolo, hadergjonaj and grant leave the club? maybe, maybe the purse strings will loosen slightly, or maybe it will mysteriously get lost like the billing money via the bank of hoyle.

[Image: images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcT_P7EmL-x3Uds998Lay...Q&usqp=CAU]

However, I'm starting to trust our board as much as i do boris right now and to be honest the messages both give appear to be twisted and clouded and quite frankly lies.

[Image: 170606-BoJo-the-clown-Boris-Johnson.jpg]

in terms of team news schindler will be missing along with ward, o'brien and edmonds green. there has been rumours that grant could be involved but how true they are I dont know. Sarr and Eiting are both available for selection but it seems like Sarr hasnt had much training yet. For some reason, and take it with a pinch of salt, I have a slight suspicion that we may see hogg drop into centre half with Eiting taking his place in the number 6 role.

As for forest bachirou is expected to miss out through injury whilst joe lolley could be doubtful having been taken off before half time against cardiff. tyler blackett could return after missing the cardiff game whilst lyle taylor will be pushing for a start. New signings Mckenna and arter will be hoping to make their debuts friday night.

ones to watch

Joe Lolley (if fit)- never really got a run of games whilst at town, showed glimpses of potential but also looked like he may only have one trick in his locker and found the premier league a step too far at the time. Since then he has managed to show some fitness and has managed to show his ability on the banks of the trent, injuries still seem to be part and parcel of his game, but his eye for goal cutting in from the right has seen his price tag rise dramatically.

Lewis Grabban- has captained the side the last couple of games and ended last season with 20 league goals. yet to get off the mark and missed what was a sitter by his standards on saturday, but will be sure to pounce should half a chance be provided

[Image: rB8ApF4M1MWAD4c_AACzcTonwSs543.jpg.webp]

Joe Worrall- young centre half who came through their academy. has started to mature as a player, but still prone to a rash mistake, has been linked with a move away to the premier league but one has not yet materialised for him, will be hard for our 'strikers' to beat him in the air.

Sammy Ameobi- Bambi on ice meets football, not exactly the most talent player out there and can look ungainly whilst on the pitch, but when he gets into full flight he is capable of causing teams problems. think a poor mans collin quaner.

what the manager/coach/puppet/mouth piece has had to say

"Harry Toffolo will be ready. Christopher Schindler won't be available, but he doesn't have an important injury. He will be back soon. We won't have Danny Ward. His injury needs more time. Lewis O'Brien is in the last part of his treatment."

"Carel has completed a week's training with the group. Naby Sarr was in isolation so couldn't prepare well. He has trained for two days with the group. We have to make a decision on him."

"Nottingham Forest were very close to the play-offs last season and were a strong team last year. They haven't started well, but they have important players offensively. We will have to bring our best to face them."

"We always have the feeling that we can win the next game. Every game is demanding and that's why this competition is special. Our aim is to have the best performance in attack and defence to get some points."

"Our focus is to score goals and to control the ball to create chances. We don't have any doubt about the potential of our strikers. We have to feel comfortable in the offensive half and increase the number of chances."

"Carel Eiting is a very technical player and is very good on the ball. He can help the team in a higher position on the pitch or can help us build from deep."

"Fraizer Campbell has worked with us in training for a couple of weeks. He can now complete more minutes for us and is certainly one of our options."

"We are improving the team in defence. One of our targets during this week was to improve the defensive level of the team."

"Every game gives us the option to grow as a team. When you win a game, you makes the supporters happy. We want to give them our best and to make them feel part of the team."

What Sabri Lamouchi has said

I am more focused on the game against Huddersfield. The transfer window is open so we had this opportunity to sign some players. Yesterday we signed Harry Arter with experience and quality, and the same with younger players. A different style but I am happy to sign these kind of players. I am happy with the new faces, new players, new energy and new quality for the team.

“But I am focused on the game against Huddersfield, because we need to wake up and start our season. We know the season started two weeks ago, so we need to absolutely be at 100 per cent focus on this game. Yes, it is good to sign new players, but the goal is to prepare the team for the next game.”

“We need to find the team spirit and sometimes you have a crucial moment in the season, last season was the same. After the loss against West Brom and the last-minute draw against Leeds, we won against Birmingham easily and the season started. We just need to wake up and to say ‘come on, let’s go’. We need to start the season, we have given a lot of gifts and we cannot accept what we are doing.”

The curious case of the hef in the nightgown

The highly revered german centre half left town in 2018 having only managed 2 premier league appearances for the club through injury. Having joined in 2016 the defender endeared himself to the town faithful firstly in his first interview where he said he enjoyed making tough tacklings as well as appearing in videos wearing his dressing gown. FAns also took to him when photos of him wearing sunglasses alongside a giraffe emerged and it seemed like we had found a character that the squad had been lacking. During his time at town he earned a bigger spot in the fans hearts with his backside goal against villa, his brace as a make shift centre forward against rochdale and of course that last minute hefing dream goal against leeds, which lead to a full on scuffle between the two benches.

Town fans were sad to see him leave to forest, but also were accepting as he wasnt getting game time, with town reportedly taking a lower offer from forest to allow them to match his wage demands

When he signed there he started to endear himself to their faithful, saying that the singing before the game turned him on, as well as making their defence that bit stronger. However, with the numerous managers that there has been down at the city ground, he has only managed to make 15 league appearances for the reds, injuries too have played a part, but having been signed by aitor karanka, then playing under martin o'neil before sabri lamouchi, the reds have seen a massive influx of players. its safe to say that he is currently well down the pecking order with joe worrall, tobias Figueiredo, michael dawson and now mckenna and soh and even blackett all ahead of him, its fair to say that he wont be getting many minutes if any for the first team having appeared once for the u23s before the lockdown and will be likely to move on during this window, although he may sit out the final year of his contract. Personally i could see him moving back to dresden, to play alongside former town man chris lowe, although if we hadnt already got stearman and elphick on the books, i'd honestly have been tempted to bring him back for the moral boosts he provides, even if it was a 3rd choice.

So Celtic progress to the play-off stage of the Europa League and just avoided a "banana skin" after failing to put down this Latvian team during the 90 mins after dominating this match - Elyanousi "coming up with the goods" in the additional time period and a sigh of relief for Lennon. Next stop Sarajevo!
