Sarajevo 0 Celtic 1 - Edouard delivers a "big goal" to qualify!
Posted by: 0762 - 01-10-2020, 23:11 - Forum: Celtic - No Replies

So, for the 10th consecutive season, Celtic progress to the group stage of another Euro footie tournament and Edouard "does the biz" in scoring that all-important goal although it should've been a more comfortable victory as good scoring opps missed by Klimala and Frimpong. Job done and the Hoops now await who will be their group opponents in tomorrow's UEFA EL draw.

The Owls v QPR SBC Match Thread

THE MATCH

SATURDAY 3RD OCTOBER 3:00PM KICK OFF

LAST MATCH

Our first defeat of the new season as we went down 2-0 to Bristol. We were the better team in the first half but couldn't take any of the chances we made and didn't make there keeper into any worthwhile save. Onto the 2nd half and we came out a different team, unfortunately a poor looking one. Bristol started on the front foot and were rewarded when Rowe scored close range. There was barely a response apart from making a few subs. Bristol wrapped up the points in injury time when Paterson fired past Dawson. That's now 3 games without a goal.

THE MATCH

Our final match before the international break and QPR make the trip north. The Hoops have had a mixed start to the season, winning losing & drawing. They are managed by Mark Warburton, who previously managed Brentford & Rangers. They don't have any standout players. They scored quite a few goals last season, but also had one of the leakier defenses. Don't expect to be challenging this season neither do I see them getting relegated, so midtable obscurity beckons.

  Rotherham Utd 1-1 Huddersfield Town
Posted by: Amelia Chaffinch - 30-09-2020, 18:24 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (31)

This is our first visit to the New York stadium since Valentine's Day 2017. On that occasion we won 3-2.
We have played once in the EFL cup since then in a home tie that saw us win 2-1.
In fact, head to head stats do favour us.

Newly promoted Rotherham Utd came up as runners-up in League One.

They had a good start with a win over Wycombe Wanderers who were promoted at the same time via the play-offs. But you may say who hasn't beaten Wycombe? That's true, the poor sods haven't had the best start. They are clearly missing Akinfenwa. However, perhaps it was a good win given that it was the first time since 2007. They were winless against them in 6 games in league 2 and league 1. You have to go back to 2001 for their last win over them. Since that opening game it's been one loss to Millwall and a draw with Birmingham. All this gives them 4 points and 14th place.

Us, on the other hand, began with losses to Norwich and Brentford but a win over Forest on Friday has brought much relief even if it was only 1-0. The precious 3 points gained see us in 17th place.

I know top scorers don't really mean much at this stage. Not for us anyway.  Doh  But here goes with Rotherham's:

You will notice a certain Matt Crooks in the mix there. He was, of course, one of our young lads.

And ours:

I know I didn't need a table for that before anyone says so  Tongue but it does give the thread aesthetic appeal.  Smartass

The Millers' last line up v Brum:

Sadlier was the scorer from a penalty in the 87th minute, having replaced Miller in the 69th minute. The final score was 1-1 after Brum were awarded a penalty themselves in the 90th minute.

Played for both:

Danny Ward who left us in 2015 to go on loan to Rotherham and made it permanent the same year. He left them after 2 seasons to sign for Cardiff. He resigned for us this year.

Matt Crooks was with the Town academy and only made one senior appearance for us. He left us to go on loan to Halifax in 2012. He had three more loan spells before signing for Accrington in 2015. The year after he signed for Rangers who sent him on loan to Scunthorpe in 2017. From there he signed for Northampton and stayed until 2019 when he joined Rotherham. A bit of a journeyman?

Alan Lee was at Rotherham 2000-2003. He had a very respectable 111 appearances and 37 goals. He joined us in 2010 and was good for getting in amongst defenders and known to be good for morale in the team. He left us to go back to Ipswich in 2013. He had to retire in 2014 due to a dodgy knee. His goal for Ipswich v Leeds ensured their relegation from the Championship. This forever guarantees his legend status at Town. Leeds' fans behaviour afterwards also explains why their fans are not the best and do not deserve to be in the premiership despite what the clueless pundits keep saying.

John Dungworth started his senior career at Huddersfield in 1972 until 1975 (last year on loan with Barnsley) and finished at Rotherham from 1984-1988. He has been back to Town as first team reserve coach. He was the one who took over from Terry Yorath when he had to depart due to ill health. He left in 2008.

ALAN, ALAN LEE, LEGEND

Born in Rotherham:

England goalkeepers Gordon Banks and David Seaman

Comedy double act The Chuckle Brothers and comedian Duggie Brown and his actress sister Lynne Perrie (I am still in therapy after her appearance on Shooting Stars)
A different sort of comedian comes from there, too; William Hague.  Laugh

Last but not least, the legend that is Herbert Chapman

What the managers have to say:

Talking of Paul Warne, can you believe that he's been manager since 2016?!
I would have said, if asked, Steve Evans was there until a couple of years ago!

There's a bald head under there.

Hibs v Hamilton Accies, Fri 2 October, KO 7.45pm
Posted by: 0762 - 30-09-2020, 15:06 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (3)

Well this is one fixture that couldn't come quick enough for Hibs after that 3-0 defeat v Celtic. We need to win it and win it well, thereby boosting confidence and moving on to other less demanding but important Scot Prem fixtures after the challenges of the past fortnight. C'mon Hibs! We need to "push on" positively towards the end of October when we play Hertz in that deferred Scot Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

Ryan Porteous promoted to the full Scotland squad by Steve Clarke!
Posted by: 0762 - 30-09-2020, 00:16 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (1)

Contrary to all the recent whining and criticism of Ryan Porteous coming from certain Rangers players and their unwise manager, Steven Gerrard, he is now promoted from the Scotland U21s to Clarke's squad for the Euro play-off matches in the coming weeks. Am I surprised? No! I predicted a long time ago that Ryan would be a full Scotland international player and the only doubt I ever had re that prediction was last year's and this year's nasty injuries that he suffered while playing for Hibs. No doubt, Steve Clarke shares similar sentiments to me and who cares what any sanctimonious hun thinks about him anyway!!

Posted by: themaclad - 29-09-2020, 17:27 - Forum: Other........ - No Replies

On Saturday Conference North and South clubs enter the cup. If any of them are drawn at home they cannot have fans in, if they are drawn away to a non elite non league side home fans are allowed by no away fans.
Wealdstone have been drawn at home tthey are an elite non league side so no fans allowed at their home draw however they are streaming the game live to the club house for 40 fans. The clubhouse over looks the pitch they have been told that they cannot watch the game through the clubhouse windows and will have to close the curtains. Unbelievable Jeff

Sorry Wealdstone playing Chesterfield in a league not a cup game
