LAST TIME OUT

FORM GUIDE

PNE 9 BORO 10

Someone famous from Boro who probably won't be at the game due to death

Newton Edward Daniels (6 April 1938 – 17 March 2016), known professionally as Paul Daniels, was an English magician and television presenter. He achieved international fame through his television series The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran on the BBC from 1979 to 1994.

Daniels was known for his catchphrase "You'll like this... not a lot, but you'll like it!", and for his marriage to his assistant, Debbie McGee. He was awarded the "Magician of the Year" Award by the Academy of Magical Arts in 1982, the first magician from outside the United States to receive it. He also won the Golden Rose of Montreux in 1985. He was a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star.[1] He has been described as "The Godfather of Magic" and has been repeatedly credited with inspiring many top professional magicians to start in the profession.[2][3][4][5][6]

Daniels was outspoken on matters including politics, current affairs, magic, entertainment, and fellow celebrities. Towards the end of his life he also appeared in reality television shows. He was described by former BBC executive Lord Grade upon his death as "a genius", "a brilliant showman" and a "pillar of Saturday Night for the BBC in their golden era of ratings".[7]

THE END

4000 Smoggies will descend on Deepdale for a game which means more to them thatn it does to us although we need a decent home performance to finish off the season after the mysterious disappearance in the defeat by the Plastics.
The game is likely to be the end of a few players time at Deepdale and these three will be hard to replace

Daniel Iversen

Sepp Van Den Berg

Cameron Archer

Iversen has been outstanding all season apart from a slight blip at Luton, Sepp has performed at a decent standars all season although with most young players has had a dip in form but cannot fault his committment also has an ability to walk into train doors that didn't automaically open, QPR away journey home.
Archer he put the ball in the Blackpool net, still raw but has potential
Sepp defintely will not be back but the other two????

A lot of others are out of contract and expects some of those in contract to leave.
We have far too many midfielders in the squad, enough to fill about three sides although playing Johnson at wing back at Barnsley was interesting
Summer could be fun

HTAFC Prediction League 2021/22 Matchday 41 - FINAL
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 02-05-2022, 09:51 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (12)

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. Similarly with the badger, if your random prediction is affected by this, it'll be half the points.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

NEW FOR THIS SEASON: End of season Play Offs.

The one who finishes top of the league will still be champion, but after the season finishes there will be Play Offs between the top 4, with 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. This will take in stuff like the EFL Play Offs, FA Cup Final, final day of Prima Donna League, European Finals etc. It will be one matchday for the semis and one for the Final. It will be the individual scores for each matchday against the allotted opponent, with some kind of tie breaker for a drawn match.
So last season's matches would've been Baggiebob(BBB) v theo_luddite and jjamez v St Charles Owl and would've given a bit more to play for towards the back end of the season.
The prize for winning will be enormous. Another rep point. Whistle

We now have an Appeals Committee set up, consisting of me, myself and I. All appeals must be made before the next Matchday kicks off.

This is the final week of regular league games. Next week, we start the Play Offs with just the top 4 competing.

Saturday May 7:
(all 12:30)

Town v Bristol City
Town scorers:
Bristol scorers:

Birmingham City v Blackburn Rovers
AFC Bournemouth v Millwall
Derby County v Cardiff City
Hull City v Nottingham Forest
Luton Town v Reading
Peterborough United v Blackpool
Preston North End v Middlesbrough
Sheffield United v Fulham
Stoke City v Coventry City
Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers
West Bromwich Albion v Barnsley

Bonus matches:
League Two:
(all Saturday 15:00)

Barrow v Northampton Town
Bristol Rovers v Scunthorpe United
Exeter City v Port Vale
Mansfield Town v Forest Green Rovers

Table after Matchday 40:

  1. Baggiebob(BBB) = 975 pts
  2. jjamez = 916 pts
  3. St Charles Owl = 907 pts
  4. theo_luddite = 906 pts

Scunthorpe United midfielder Alfie Beestin has signed a new two-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Iron from Doncaster in 2020, has scored six goals in 85 Scunthorpe appearances.

Scunthorpe will begin the 2022-23 season in the National League after relegation from League Two.

"He's certainly a player I want to carry forward into next season's successes. I want to help him climb back up the footballing tree," Iron boss Keith Hill told the club website.

  Appleton goes
Posted by: themaclad - 01-05-2022, 09:30 - Forum: Lincoln City - No Replies

Michael Appleton has left his role as manager of League One club Lincoln City after three seasons in charge.

The Imps finished 17th in the table this term, a year after reaching the play-off final where they were beaten by Blackpool.

Ex-Portsmouth and Oxford boss Appleton, 46, took over at the LNER Stadium in September 2019 to succeed Danny Cowley.

"It has been a privilege to manage Lincoln City over the past three seasons," said Appleton.

"While this season did not match the highs of the last, we have still had some memorable performances and results."

Chairman Clive Nates said he and Appleton, who spent some time away from the club last summer after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, had spoken in recent weeks and agreed that "this summer was a good time for him to look for a challenge elsewhere and for us to find someone to build on his work over the past three years".

"There was no fallout and no need for either side to make the decision for the other," said Nates. "He leaves with our total respect, our best wishes and an open invitation to visit the LNER Stadium at any time in future."

Appleton added: "Clive Nates and the board, the players and all the staff throughout the club, have been fantastic colleagues over the past three years and I thank them all for their backing.

"I am sure they will continue to drive the club forward on and off the pitch with some really impressive foundations in place for the coming years."

  Sheridan stays proviso for now
Posted by: themaclad - 01-05-2022, 09:25 - Forum: Oldham Athletic - No Replies

Manager John Sheridan will stay with Oldham Athletic despite relegation, with the aim of an immediate return to the English Football League next term.

Sheridan returned for a sixth stint in January, but was unable to save the Latics from the drop out of League Two after Saturday's loss to Salford City.

The 57-year-old will oversee the bid to win promotion from the National League.

"I didn't want to leave with that feeling of the club getting relegated," Sheridan told BBC Radio Manchester.

"The supporters have supported me and the team since I came in like we were going for promotion, I couldn't ask any more."

Latics fans have cause to hold Sheridan in high regard following his previous spells at Boundary Park, in which he guided them to the League One play-offs in his first full-time role and helped avoid relegation from third tier on his return.

The timing of his arrival for this most recent stint came just before the end of the January transfer window, and limited the amount of squad strengthening available.

Oldham board 'devastated' by relegation
Oldham trust pushes fan-led takeover aim
There was also the backdrop of the supporters' extremely frosty relationship with owner Abdallah Lemsagam, triggering protests at matches like the one which delayed the defeat by Salford.

Sheridan, who also played more than 150 games for Oldham at the end of his playing career, expects to get his chance to overhaul the playing group this summer.

"I feel for the sake of a year, just give me the opportunity, if I can bounce back," he said.

"I believe in myself that I can get the right team, the right recruitment and the right players. [By] making some tough decisions, making decisions where I feel I can keep players on to push and be stronger next year.

"I was only too willing. It gives me an opportunity, if I can bring players in of my own choice and make us stronger, and get a team strong enough to get us straight back up.

"It's massively important to get straight back up, if you stay in that league it's very difficult to get out of."

Sheridan described relegation as "one of the biggest downers of my footballing career", and understands the frustrations of supporters after a miserable campaign.

Yet, he is keeping his focus on the football-side, regardless of the ownership status.

"I'm not someone who gets involved in a lot of politics and talking," Sheridan added.

"I just try to take care of what I try to be good at, and, if I am any good at it, it's managing a football team."

Celtic v Rangers, 1 May - the Scot Prem title beckons!!
Posted by: 0762 - 30-04-2022, 23:03 - Forum: Celtic - Replies (4)

I think this is a case of a brief lesson recently learned at Hampden and lets "get it right" this time. Celtic playing Rangers in between two big Euro fixtures for them, what a good time to play them and they also have injuries to deal with too. Ange's strategy has to be a hi-press one to "test out tired legs" and try to win the Scot Prem title in style and in front of the massed ranks of Hoops fans who'd like to see it returned to Celtic Park in such a way esp after the disappointing events of last season. I'm sure converting vg goal opps will be emphasised long before the KO time - no more profligacy in front of goal at crucial times of this particular derby match plus a long unbeaten league record to protect.

  New Deal
Posted by: themaclad - 30-04-2022, 18:55 - Forum: Walsall - Replies (23)

Walsall's Donervon Daniels has signed a new two-year deal with the Saddlers.

The 28-year-old former West Bromwich Albion defender, signed in January by then boss Matthew Taylor initially on a six-month deal, has played 16 games.

But he has only been on the losing side twice in 11 appearances since new boss Michael Flynn took charge in February.

"The gaffer and I have hit it off since he has come in - he's put a lot of trust in me, he sees me as a leader in the dressing room," said Daniels.

Walsall head coach Flynn added: "He has been exceptional since I have been here. He makes the players around him better. He has got a fantastic attitude.

"He has been attentive, he knows how to play the game, he is good technically, meaning he can deal with how we want to play next season. He is a key signing for us."

After starting his career just up the road at The Hawthorns, Daniels left Albion for Wigan Athletic and was part of their League One title-winning team in 2015-16 before moving on to Blackpool, then Luton Town. He also had loan experience at Tranmere, Gillingham, Aberdeen, Rochdale and Doncaster Rovers, before arriving at Crewe in August 2020.

With two games left this season, Walsall lie 14th in League Two.

Bromley have a plastic pitch and we don't exactly have a good record on plastic pitches. Let's hope we don't pick up any more injuries.
