I like Heggem a lot but I feel this is an offer we can’t turn down. With what we paid for him, this is close to straight profit. I know the poor financial situation we’re in but I would hope some this fee would be reinvested in a player/players. As I think Slick mentioned, investment in an attacking midfielder is, I feel, a priority.
Losing Heggem would be a blow but we seem to be decently served with Phillips, Campbell and Taylor. I’d be more concerned at losing Isaac Price.
I'd agree with this about Heggem.
He's been a great acquisition for the price we paid. In an era when our transfer dealings have been largely disastrous, he's been a rare gem. Crazy to think he cost less than we got for Connor Townsend.
That said, I think £10m is good money for him.
Yes, he's a good player who has stayed fit and is highly capable at both left back and centre half. However, he doesn't offer any threat in the air from set plays which is disappointing for a player of his size.
If the money is reinvested in the team and goes towards 3 or 4 players it could make us stronger overall.
My worry is that his fee is probably just covering what we've already spent on Phillips, Campbell and Heggebo. We'll probably need to invest in both a centre half and left back to replace him, especially with Frabotta going. So I'm not sure how much of his fee, if any, will go into singing that much needed creative midfielder. I think we're largely in damage limitation mode following the actions of the previous owner.
