The fee I read is £10 million which is very good for a goalkeeper in his mid-thirties. Whilst the incoming money would be good to get two replacements for him, I think we’re better off trying to keep him.

I also think he will actually stay. He did say after the season ended that he is happy here and wants to stay next season so I expect him to be a man of his word.

What we do need this summer is sign a younger goalkeeper in their early to mid twenties who can become the long term replacement for Foster in a couple of seasons. Scandinavia and Germany has some good young keepers that we could look into.

I suppose it's because he's not an outfield player, but we don't give Ben 1/2 the plaudits he deserves. He's still as good as anyone in the Prem, and he loves the Club.

I was surprised he wasn't called up after his season's performance, age I suppose with Southgate looking for a younger team for the years ahead and the next world cup.
Belgium will be tester as to how good this squad actually is. I predict a 3-1 win for England.   Thumb up

Looks like Big Dave won’t need to sign Woods from Brentford now we have the great Gareth Barry staying(!). Confused

I have this horrible feeling that we'll sign virtually no one - or at least no one who will be a first choice starter - and will just rely on last year's players who are still with us. And that wouldn't bode well.
I hope I'm as wide of the mark with that as I am with my match predictions.

I have no problem with Barry staying - but if he under performs I suggest we continually fine him.
He's only staying because nobody else wants him and the money. Only fair we do not give him an
easy ride for the next year as we have done with Chadli. Play and pay is the way to go.
Not ethical or legal I assume, but whats to lose - just do it Dave.

He wasn't picked because he has officially retired from international football hasn't he?? There isn't a lot between him and the guys in Russia, so if he wanted to go then he would have had to make himself available as I doubt Southgate would have asked him to un-retire.
