Whilst town often have more than their share of possession, our ability to convert that into goals seems to be underwhelming. However, to succeed in winning games purely on the basis that we will score more than the opposition no matter how many they put past us requires a forward line like Manchester United used to have and look how much that cost. Dean Hoyle isn't into investing that sort of money in the Championship, nor should he be expected to. By all means get a new striker who can convert into goals, but that alone won't solve the problem.
The most pressing problem is shipping goals. Teams with a good goalkeeper, defence and to a certain extent midfield do not ship the number of goals that town do on a regular basis. Defenders are generally much cheaper than strikers and its time ineffective members of the defence were issued with P45's and replaced. There is also some doubt about the positioning and speed of some defenders. Town, in common with many teams seem to have a misguided loyalty to senior players. In football, a good reputation built up over years counts for nothing if your legs go or you slow up and can't be replaced with a corresponding improvement in positional play which means you don't need to be able to run half the length of the pitch because you are already in the right place. An example of continuing to play when he should have hung his boots up is Rio Ferdinand - he was worse than useless at his final club and a complete embarrassment to his club and himself- it's essential a manager knows when a player is no longer any use and has the balls to get shut. In general a clear sign that a defender is past it is when he gets yellow and red cards for lunging at an attacker he knows he can't keep pace with a little too frequently.

Yeah but we tightened the defence under the previous manager and folk said it was boring.
We will, for the time being anyway, continue to not be overly concerned with defending.

2 months into the season many town fans, many on here said they wanted a team that was trying hard and passionate and didnt give up and results didnt really matter as they would come with time
well wish granted
Wagner needs time, a culture had set in at the club that will take a long time to change, he also needs time to make THE RIGHT signings , there is money to spend but not a lot compared to some and it has to be spent correctly, that might take until the summer.
its easy to say we have to go out and sign players but in reality its not that easy, a parent club can demand a fee and in january they are usually extortionate, especially if they know you have a few bob, after that terms have to be agreed with players , or more accurately players pimps...errr erm i mean agents, that also isnt the easiest thing to do, look at the Rhodes debacle with boro
we arent really in any danger of going down and i know we are sick of being a work in progress , but we've waited this long we can wait a little longer

Saturday was boring, a flat performance with zero get up and go from anyone in the team. Yes we maybe should've had a penalty but at the end of the day that decision isn't what has cost us. What cost us is our lack of ability to defend and being clinical in front of goal.
I'd go as far to say that Cardiff are shadow of the team that we played towards the start of the season and are a bang average Championship football team, and on Saturday they were there for the taking...except we didn't turn up.
Abysmal 1st half from both teams that somehow produced 2 goals, we came out second half and took the game by the scruff of the neck for about 10minutes(Nahki wanted a lifetime to shoot and Bunn missed the target when he shouldn't) after that back to the bore fest that saw us defend badly, lose discipline when decisions didn't go our way and lack leadership and shape on the pitch. Wagner couldn't really change it either when he looked at his players sat on his bench.
I've said all season the squad is weak and Saturday showed it, a central defender required and another striker to help Wells in the rotation policy

"The atmosphere on our side was boosted by what must have 200 friends and acquaintances of the lad that died, .........but after a HT pint they all went back up town."
Call me a cynic, but this takes us back to Wakeys post. What was it all about in the first place? An ego trip by the sound of that.

Seems to me this was manipulation of social media, local media and manipulation of the club I love. This is not on, but is typical of the shallow culture that exists these days amongst some. I wouldn't want my own flesh and blood to go through what this family has gone through, but show your own flesh and blood some respect.

I did hear TL (under the stand chat) amongst the group of 'mates' several were on the banned list and the club, with prior knowledge had turned a blind eye in letting them in to show their respects to a fellow town fan (lad) on this occasion.
A mix of social media, marching powder n all day ale Saturday culture call it what you may, but looking at the HT scoreboard another elderly chap popped his cloggs last week, there'll be no bugger left soon.
