Phillips out Sarll In |

Hartlepool United head coach Kevin Phillips has left the National League club following the conclusion of their 2023-24 National League campaign.
The former England striker and Sunderland legend, 50, was appointed in January after taking over from previous boss John Askey.
Phillips oversaw seven wins from 16 games but the club missed out on the play-off places by a margin of 11 points.
He has been replaced by former Stevenage, Yeovil Town and Woking boss Darren Sarll.
Pools said in a statement that Phillips' contract had only been to the end of campaign and it had "come to an end".
Hartlepool were relegated from League Two in 2023 and have been off the pace on their return to fifth-tier football.
Askey left the club in December following a run of only three wins in 19 league games and six without a win.
Phillips won his first Pools game in charge when they defeated York 2-1 at home on 27 January and oversaw four wins from his first five games in charge.
The former South Shields boss then oversaw a five-game winless run, culminating in a chastening 7-1 defeat at north east neighbours Gateshead on 26 March, as their season fizzled out
Sarll was sacked by Woking in November following a run of eight defeats in 10 matches.
"I'm coming here in order to win and we need to close that gap to the play-offs. We won't accept mediocrity, we need to challenge every season and that all starts from the dressing room," he told the Hartlepool website.
"I can’t wait to start. Creating a strong dressing room is the priority ahead of this pre-season."
Club director Andy Steel added: "He presented a very clear and compelling view of how he wants to build the squad, deliver a positive style of football that statistically supports success in this league, and create a winning mentality and culture.
“Critically, Darren also has an in-depth knowledge of the National League and its players as well as first-hand experience of getting teams to play-offs, which were all key criteria for the board when looking at a managerial appointment to move forward."

The last seven days have clarified much for Albion, who'll now be virtually assured of a playoff berth with just one win from the remaining two matches. The same, however, could be said about survival for this weekend's hosts, Sheffield Wednesday, who've finally hoisted themselves out of the drop zone with a four-game unbeaten run, but need a good three points yet to consolidate that position.
On paper that's not an easy task for them: they're winless in the last nine against Albion and goalless in five of those matches, including the most recent two. The Owls have also failed to beat any top six side all season, conceding 24 goals in eleven encounters, and last got the better of Albion on home soil way back in autumn 2006. Indeed, since that fateful November day the Baggies have racked up as many league victories at Hillsborough as they did in the half-century preceding it, so with all of that in mind, it should really come as no surprise if Saturday's fixture ends up being 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday.
It's April, the form books are on the bonfire, the ground is carpeted with banana skins, and Albion are Albion. But having shown plenty of mettle at Leicester last week, hopefully more of the same will be enough to see us through.

I was tempted to just put a couple of lines in here today and let you all get on with it.
However I expect whoever plays for Town on Saturday to do a thoroughly professional job, so I'll do my bit and churn out my usual (chirpy?) thread plus a few of my opinions and off the wall comments.
I'm not dropping my standards even if the Club and "some" of our Players apparently dropped their's last week (only last week???).
I and (I think) we believe.
Do the squad?
Please pin a copy to the dressing room wall if you can.

Kick-off 15:00 UK Time
Saturday 27/04/24
In a change from Chinese Take-Away ownership, two clubs with Yankee-Doodle-Dandy owners, with apparent aims to be in the Prima Donna League sometime soon, go head to head to avoid the drop to League 1.
Early doors in the season, Town picked up 1 point in 4 games and had already shown their ability to let 4 goals in at home to Norwich. Brum meanwhile got off to a better start, winning 3 and drawing 2 of their first 5. They lost 3 and drew 1 of their next 4 however, whilst Town went the other way and won two and drew 3.
So, off the back of an excellent win at West Brom, off I went to a dark and gloomy evening match in Brum, made worse by me misreading the train timetables and thinking the trains were cancelled when it was only the local one from Moor Street to Bordesley. A long hike from New Street to the ground saw me arrive just after kick-off. My mood wasn't improved by an over-officious steward who insisted I turn out everything in every pocket. Prat.
I was just in time to see Town go 1-0 down 3 minutes in and we were piss poor for the rest of the match. At 3-0 down and going into added time, I'd seen enough. As I headed down the steps to the loos, Helik pulled one back for Town, only for Brum to make it 4-1 as I headed down the next flight of steps out of the ground. I then took the longest shortcut ever back to New Street. I've never managed to retrace exactly where I went on Google Maps. Suffice to say, I'll use the main roads next time. My mood was slightly improved by buying a (cheapish) pint in the New Street Station 'Spoons before getting the train back to Wolvo. Far cheaper than that flash place at the front of the station. I paid more for a half in that place the previous time I was gasping for one.
Since then we've both had a change or two in head coaches, their's maybe a bit more high profile than ours, but with more or less the same outcome.
Sack the bloody Yanks.
Strangely, at 0-3 down last weekend I headed down to the loos, just in time for us to go 0-4 down.
We haven't improved much and neither has my timing.
Were the chants from the Cowshed fans at the end deserved? - For several players, YES. you know who you are.

Town are having a "fan appreciation day" on Saturday. Now where have I heard that phrase before?
"In association with our friends at ebuyer - the UK's number one for tech - Town supporters will be able to choose from the following prizes: an Apple iPhone 15, an Apple MacBook Pro, an Apple iPad Air, an Apple Watch Series 9, an Apple HomePod Wireless Smart Speaker, a Samsung Galaxy Smartphone, a Samsung 65” TV, a Sony PlayStation 5, a Microsoft XBox, an AlphaSync Gaming PC, a Lenovo 15” laptop, a Nintendo Switch, Sony Headphones, or a Funky Air Fryer.
Two Terriers will also be in with the chance of winning a 7 day (6 night) VIP trip to Sacramento - with both airfare and accommodation included, alongside a $500 Visa gift card, a VIP tour and seats to a Sacramento Republic match, and your own lunch with our Chairman Kevin Nagle."
Joy. At least it's not a Bobble Head Toy player give-away. Next season, maybe. You read it here first.
Bobble Head Toys you ask? Game on.

Out Injured/Suspended/Isolating
There were a few last weekend who I hope never pull a Town shirt on again. You know who you are.
Lees has screwed up his knee big time, so he won't play again this season. Might take a while next season too.
Back training but not oven ready/Back in the frame
There were about 18 of them supposedly fit and ready last weekend that didn't seem that oven ready when push came to shove.
Hopefully they've had a bit more than a basting in hot fat this week in training.
Last time out
I might have mentioned we got battered again. We've conceded 4 (or more) goals 9 times this seaon. We're pretty good at conceding 3 too. We haven't won any of them. We've scored 4 once, against Wendies who are now laughing at us. If we win 5-4 this weekend I'll buy you all a beer. All you have to do is find me. Billy no mates in a pub somewhere near the station.
Thanks to Mr. Chicken and his mate for this, it saved me looking it up.
Only Millwall (28) have dropped more points from winning positions than Town (27), and the vast majority of Town’s dropped points (23) have been squandered by conceding in the last 20 minutes of games.
No other Championship side has conceded as many goals in the last 10 minutes of games plus stoppage time (18), and no other side has conceded as many second-half goals (48)...

Rotherham picked up yet another point and showed far more fight than we did in drawing 0-0 at home to Brum. The Sky highlights I saw, I didn't go looking for them, honest, showed Brum were about as inept as us. Well, there's a reason why all 3 of us are below the trap door.
![[Image: xJZ6NLh.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/xJZ6NLh.jpg)
Elsewhere, down amongst the dead men, a few would be corpses still have some breath in them.
Wendies continued their march out of the bottom 3 with a 1-3 win at Blackburn on Sunday, aided and abetted by possibly the worst display of professional goalkeeping ever by Blackburn keeper Aynsley Pears. We are now 3 points behind Wendies, which I didn't think I'd be typing anytime this season after their start.
Well OK maybe not ever, Andy Dibble anyone? Pears didn't help Blackburn or us. Brum couldn't get a shot on goal worthy of the name at Rotherham (like us, it's going to be a joy - not - to watch us both fail again on Saturday) other than a tame pass to the keeper.
Plymouth got battered 3-0 at Stoke, QPR won again at home to Both Ends who can't decide which end they really want to be in. That finally ended any play off hopes they had. Think that's the bottom 3rd covered one way or another. Up in the nose bleeds, them that want to be promoted suddenly sprung into life. Leicester beat The Baggies, The Dirties beat Boro and it doesn't show below, as Ipswich still have to play Coventry after the Sky Blues came back from 3-0 down v Man Utd in the FA Cup semi on Sunday to draw 3-3. They had a last second extra time winner denied by VAR (what else?) due to a players toe nail hanging out of the front of his boot 40 yards back up the pitch.

The Sack Race
For some reason Barnsalee, sat comfortably in the play-off places in League 1, turfed Neill Collins this week.
Maybe Snoots or AmChaff have some local insight into this but it seems batshit barmy to me.
Good job we never sack managers just before they might get us promoted.

You might notice where Town have a bit of a problem this season. Good job Brum are no longer in the top half.
Likewise Brum have a bit of a problem on the road. 0-0 or 1-1 again then.

Well it isn't the Poison Dwarf but someone we used to know is reasonably handy by bottom 3 standards.

They can't all lose
Rotherham go to Brizzle, neither could give a rats ass. We know who 23v22 is. Wendies are home to the Baggies, Plymouth go to Millwall, Bollackburn are home to Coventry, QPR home to L666s.
In the nose bleeds, I just mentioned L666s, Leicester go to Both Ends, Ipswich to 'ull. Not that it will bother us much, but Sarfampton play Smoke-on-Stench City

We've played 'em before
How even could it be? Last season's win was the first at home in 10 games, 7 of which were draws and nearly all of them 1-1. If repeated it will possibly send us both down. Can't wait. Does fan appreciation day mean free beers? Thought not.

New Stadium - well, maybe, 'appen?
The Bluenoses new owners have bought some mostly derelict land that the City was going to build a load of big factory units on with no real purpose in mind, except maybe finding you somewhere to store the shit in your loft that you don't want to store in your loft anymore. If you've had the pleasure of travelling by train through New Street in one direction or t'other in the last few years you might have spotted a Go-Kart track with no Go-Karts running round it. That's it, plus a bit more land around it. Previously the site of brickyards as far as the eye can see, the shit in the soil will be deeper than anything in the outflows of every Severn Trent sewage works. Remediation won't be the only word spoken to fix that lot.
The YouTube video they released showed a corner of what might be the new stadium, meanwhile, Birmingham News prints a new version of the "vision" every other week. Supposedly double the capacity and more of St. Andrews, it will look even more empty than St. Andrews does now.

I suppose I'd better put up a post about tomorrow's game, but everybody knows the script, plot, maybe even the score. Will it really matter in the long term as long as we get enough points to be 10th or better? Of course it does, but do the players feel the same, or the manager? It's only words, but here's Monty's take on things.
“It was a difficult few days after the Motherwell game and reflecting on the disappointment of missing out on the top six. When we spoke about that, it was looking across the season and in many games we were in winning positions but lost 12 points from winning positions. We did that against Motherwell and that condemned us to missing out on the top six. There was a lot of frustration, a lot of upset, and the feeling that we let the fans down and ourselves down.
“We have to move forward now and look at the next five games as an opportunity to finish the season strong. This week we’ve been preparing for St Johnstone and the mood has been good. We know we need to put in some good performances and get some results to finish the season on a high.”

FANTASTIC SPEAKS
Ryan Lowe wants his side to finish what he feels has been a “fantastic” home campaign on a high, when Leicester City come to Deepdale on Monday evening.
North End will host the title-pushing Foxes for an 8pm kick-off in front of the Sky Sports cameras, looking to stop a promotion party, with Enzo Maresca’s side able to seal their return to the top flight in PR1.
While aware of the obvious threat they’ll pose, the PNE manager is keen for his side to add to the 37 points picked up on home turf already this season.
Talking about the preparations for the game, Ryan said: “We’ve been in for three days now on the bounce building up to this game. The noise is about them because they’ve done fantastically well, and rightly so.
“They’ve come down from the Premier League and they’ve got some fantastic players. They’re well coached, but we’ve got our own agenda and pride and passion to play for more points.
“We’re at home, we’ve had a fantastic campaign this season at home, and we want that to continue.
“We are coming up against a tough team which we know, but these are the games you play football for, against a team who are looking to get out of the division, and I’m hoping our lads will be champing at the bit for it.
“We’ve had a few good days of training. We’ll continue that over the next few days, and the lads are really looking forward to it.”
Results elsewhere ahead of Monday’s fixture under the lights may already confirm Leicester’s promotion, but they know that no matter what, three points will be enough.
Facing PNE, though, they’ll be coming up against a team with a good home record against the division’s automatic promotion challengers, having beaten Leeds United and Ipswich Town, and drawn with Southampton.
Ryan said: “We’ve always tried to make Deepdale a fortress. It takes a while because people have got to buy into what we’re doing. Slowly but surely they’ve done that.
“The fans have been excellent, especially since the Bristol City game onwards. They’ve really got behind the lads and galvanised the group, and when they do that it really does galvanise the group.
“They feel the love and the vibe off them with the singing and the shouting. I can feel it myself on the side. They play a big part in that and we want that to continue.”
Earlier in the campaign, it seemed an inevitability that Leicester City would be heading straight back into the Premier League, but a mixed run of form earlier this year allowed the chasing pack to close the gap.
They’ve proven their quality in the end, though, and are now very nearly there.
Ryan said: “It shows the strength of the Championship. You’d have thought with 94 points they’d be promoted by now.
“When we were looking at the fixtures early on and they were 18 points clear, I was hoping they were already promoted with two games to go,” he laughed, “but that’s the league.
“They’ve found themselves on the back of some defeats and some draws, but credit where credit’s do. They’re potentially going to go on and get promoted. We want to put a dent in that in terms of our own stuff.
“They’re coming to our place and we want to make sure we equip ourselves right and perform to the levels that we can. I think one manager said before they’re actually on loan to the Championship because of the financial packages and the parachute payments that come with it and the quality you’re coming up against.
“These are the games me, my staff and players should be really rallying for because these are the games you want to play in.”
Who’s Available?
Ryan Lowe expects to have the same squad who travelled to QPR last weekend available to him again on Monday night.
Ali McCann, Ben Whiteman, and Brad Potts all remain sidelined and are not expected to feature again this season.
Striker Ched Evans could make his 400th career appearance in this fixture.
Opposition Focus
Having had a huge lead at the top of the table earlier in the campaign, automatic promotion seemed an inevitability for Leicester City, but a mixed run earlier this year allowed the chasing pack to close the gap.
Enzo Maresca’s side, in their first campaign back in the Championship following relegation, have shown their quality though, and an incredible 5-0 victory over Southampton in the week saw them take a huge stride towards the top flight.
With a round of fixtures to come before the game on Monday night, results elsewhere may see them seal promotion before a ball’s kicked at Deepdale, but they know three points on the night will be enough regardless.
Match Officials
Referee: Sam Allison
Assistant Referee: Blake Antrobus and Alex James
Fourth Official: Josh Smith
Sam Allison will take charge of only the third PNE match of his career on Monday night, with the previous fixture being the 1-1 draw against Rotherham United in September 2023.
Allison has shown 115 yellow cards and one red in 32 matches so far this term.
Teams who win promotion at Deepdale will probably have Leicester added to the list providing Marching all Together don't cock up at Loftus Road tonight. In their way us, apparently according to team news Ched could make his 400 th apperance on Monday begs the question, why?
Mind you Woodburn played at Rangers and like Ched will probably be shown the door at the end of the season, could see Browne's last home game given he's not signed a new deal
#Unfortunately the end of season parade will probably be concluded in front of celebrating Midlanders, wonder if we will actually put in a performance, under the lights on Sky TV what could possibly go wrong?

So, the question next arises, who do we keep for next season and who do we bring in? Below is/was the position/s of our 26 contracted players from March, according to the "ever-reliable" and possibly doomed Bob's Board.
Loans in;
Harry Tyrer (GK)(Everton - Full Season)
Miguel Freckleton (Sheffield United - Full Season)
Loans Out;
Duhameau (Matlock)
Hooper (Sheffield FC)
White (Matlock)
Wilkinson (Matlock)
Maguire (Crawley - End of Season),
Out of Contract to be confirmed;
Alexander Duhameau
George Wilkinson
Sam Hooper
Archie White
Luke Chadwick
Michael Jacobs
Out of Contract June 2024;
Jeff King (option)
Ash Palmer
Laurence Maguire (OOL)
Bailey Clements
Ollie Banks
Harley Curtis
Out of Contract June 2025;
Bailey Hobson
Darren Oldaker
Ryan Colclough
Joe Quigley
Jamie Grimes
Tyrone Williams
Mike Jones
Branden Horton
Ryan Boot (GK)
Out of Contract June 2026;
Tom Naylor
Will Grigg
James Berry
Liam Mandeville
Ryheem Sheckleford
Armando Dobra
So we have 15 players to whom we are already committed for our return to the EFL and beyond, unless we mutually agree transfers.
Questions arise over the six out of contract players in June. Who do we want to keep? Add Jacobs to that who has certainly been a success ... Then we need to consider whether we want any of our loaned-out players, and would we like a loanee like Freckleton to become permanent? Add to that list under consideration any of the youngsters who showed up well for us in the FA Trophy. Jamie Hewitt raved about at least one of them.
To come in I'd be buying Kane Drummond from Macclesfield, George Nevett if I could get him from Rochdale and Thompson-Summers from Halifax. I'd try to keep Jeff King on whom we have an option and I'd be hoping for a defensive of proven LEAGUE ability and experience. AND we'll need a goalie.
What are you looking for next season for us to make a realistic EFL2 play-off bid?

Tom Cleverley has been named the new permanent head coach of Championship club Watford.
The former England player took over as interim boss after Valerien Ismael was sacked in March.
Cleverley, 34, has lost just one of his seven matches in charge, with the Hornets safe from relegation in 15th place.
The ex-Manchester United and England midfielder spent three spells at Vicarage Road as a player, twice on loan, and retired from his playing career at Watford last year.
He then moved into coaching, taking over as Watford Under-18s coa
