LAST MATCH
Despite putting in a decent performance, we went down to Luton with a little help from the referee. We were the better team in the first half with Kaminski making a couple of saves from Smith and Windass, while Bannan fired one over the bar. Beadle did save from McGuiness. Onto the 2nd half and we deservedly took the lead when Bazza volleyed past Kaminski. We could have had a penalty, but the EFL wont allow that. The game changed when Bernard was judge to have handled on the line and was sent off and the penalty put in by Morris. Luton then won it with a few minutes left, Morris again, though there could have been handball by Morris

THE MATCH
Next up and back to Hillsborough to take on WBA. The Baggies have mad an excellent start to the season, winning 5 and drawing one in the league and sit proudly at the top of the Championship, although 4 of there wins have come against teams currently in the bottom 11, so how good they are is a question mark. If they can keep there start going they should finish somewhere in the top 6. They are managed by Carlos Corberan, who took over in October 2022 and has a 48% winning percentage. There leading scorer is Maja, who has 6 goals so far this season.

More than 100,000 litres of water has been pumped out of AFC Wimbledon's flooded Plough Lane home after the "entire stadium" was left under water, says the club's managing director.
The pitch at the Cherry Red Records Stadium has suffered "significant damage" after the nearby River Wandle broke its banks on Sunday night, James Woodroof told BBC Radio London.
Tuesday's Carabao Cup third-round match against Newcastle United has been postponed and will instead be played at the Premier League club's St James's Park ground on 1 October.
The Dons' League Two home game against Crewe Alexandra, originally scheduled for that day, has in turn been postponed, while the club are hoping to stage Saturday's league game against Accrington Stanley at another venue in south London, Woodroof said.
The club's next home game after that is against Carlisle United on Saturday, 12 October and he said it is their "real intention to fulfil that fixture".
"I woke up to images from my stadium team. I thought it was AI [artificial intelligence]," he said.
"The entire stadium, the concourse and ground floor, was under water. It was horrendous. The pitch has significant damage.
"We filled four tankers, which house 27,000 litres each – over 100,000 litres."
With a running tap estimated to use nine litres a minute, 100,000 litres is the equivalent of a tap being left on continuously for around a week.
Listen: 'The entire stadium was underwater'
Attribution
Parts of central and southern England experienced more than a month's worth of rain on Sunday and Monday morning.
It is the first time the River Wandle has broken its banks since the 1960s, Woodroof said.
Damage to the pitch shows several areas of exposed sand close to one of the corner flags.
Woodroof said he expected diggers to be brought into the stadium on Wednesday to begin excavating the damaged pitch.
"We are deep in investigation mode into what has happened here. Essentially it's a natural disaster," he said.
"The River Wandle was full. There was too much water and nowhere for it to go, and the pressure has been so enormous that this area of the pitch has been the unfortunate victim.
"We really need to understand what the damage has been beneath that surface."
Wimbledon have made a strong start to the season and sit fifth in League Two, with 13 points from their first six matches.
They are undefeated in five home games in all competitions.
A JustGiving page, external has been set up by Wombles fan Graham Stacey to raise funds to help Wimbledon repair the damage, with a target of £100,000.
Their cup opponents Newcastle are among those to help, pledging £15,000.
"We are really thankful for all the support," Woodroof added.
"It typifies the spirit of this football club, this relentless resilience and community spirit is extraordinary.
"Time after time this football club has defied naysayers. We have another obstacle in our path and I've no doubt we'll be back and I'm hopeful it's sooner rather than later."
Woodroof later confirmed to BBC Radio 5 Live that the club has insurance for the stadium and pitch, and were working closely with their insurers.
He also urged Magpies fans to buy tickets for the rearranged tie, adding: "There’s a revenue share, so we get 45% of the gate. If you live in Newcastle please come down - by supporting your team you are supporting us."
He said switching Saturday's League Two game to Accrington was "sadly not possible" and added: "We are speaking to local clubs about whether they can lend us their ground for the day.
"We are working with the EFL and Accrington on a solution, but we don’t have one yet."

Group A
Themaclad 12
Minizin 6
A.A.A. 5
Amelia 5
Twerton 1
Zinman 1
Lowest score of the season so far with just 30 points scored. Another whitewash on the Gamball didn’t help. But this didn’t stop Themaclad continuing his fine form this season and he took advantage of the other poor scores by grabbing 12 points!! A CS on the Bonus, backed up with 3 CRs certainly helped his cause. Minizin was 2nd with 6 points, he at least managed a CR on the Bonus. AAA and Amelia both ended with 5 points each, AAA was the only other player to managed a CS but missed on his bonus, Amelia got a CR on the Bonus.
Bottom in joint 5th this week is Twerrton and Zinman. Both of them managed to pick up the Scoreball point but not much else!!
67 Themaclad
48 Twerton
40 Minizin
37 A.A.A.
30 Amelia
29 Zinman
Themaclad has now extended his lead to a healthy 19 points and has more than double the points of Amelia and Zinman, can he keep this going?? Amelia was actually the only positive mover this week, pushing Zin back down to the wooden spoon spot!!
A few stats from the results so far. Themaclad has a nice lead and its not difficult to see why - he has scored the most CSs, most points on each of the three balls and is one of only 2 players to be positive on the ball playing points overall!!!
Cheers
SCO
Group B
Lady Jane 20
Snooty 15
Stairs 10
Derby 7
BaggieOne 6
SCO 5
BBB 3
Although the total points this week was marginally below average, the spread of individual scores was large with a difference of 17 points separating top from bottom. We did see a couple of negative scoreball points and 2 games, Fulham/Newcastle and Palace/Man U provided a toal of minus 1 point between them.
Lady Jane hasn't yet been outside the top 3 in any week so far and this week she set her highest single week score, being the first of this group to achieve th 20 point mark. Nailing her gamball for the second time this season (now 4 out of 5 positive gamball weeks) helped her on her way together with 2 other correct scores from 6 correct results. Thankfully for the rest of the group she missed out on her bonus! Snooty had his best week so far to take 2nd place - 5 correct results for him including 2 corrext scores including his bonus. Stairs is the other player making double figures, largely down to a maximum bonus.
Derby was the only other player to score from the gamball but he was the only player not to get a correct score, keeping him in mid-table just a point ahead of BaggieOne who only scored on 2 games though one was his bonus.
SCO's slow start continues scoring just 5 points but he's kept off the bottom by BBB. They were both held back by their balls - minuses on all 3 thanks to Palace's nil nil draw.
74 Lady Jane
53 Derby
50 Stairs
48 Snooty
45 BBB
44 BaggieOne
37 SCO
Lady Jane is fast disappearing out of sight at the top of the table. Her lead now stretches to 21 points over the chasing (?) pack. She also has double the total of SCO languishing at the foot of the table.
Some early season balls analysis highlights Lady Jane's great start. She has amassed 30 points from her balls, just ahead of Derby on 27. In contrast SCO has minus 3 points from his balls!

The McGalphsmiths Stadium

Kick-off 19:45 UK Time
Tuesday 24/09/24
Steve Bruce, Jordan Rhodes and their little sticks of Blackpool rock make a re-arranged trip over The Pennines for what will likely be a warm (if not hostile) welcome in the hillsides of West Yorkshire for Tuesday night's match.
After spitting his dummy out at Town, Bruce has since gone on to enjoy various levels of unpopularty at Wigan, Crystal Palace, Brum, Wigan again, Blunderland, Hull, Villa, Wendies and West Brom before coming out of retirement for a donkey ride or two on Blackpool beach.
Lots of Town fans wanted us to bring Rhodes back again from his loan after he scored 15 goals for Blackpool before Christmas last season. However, his goals dried up at that point and from the end of January to the end of the season he only made 4 more appearances. He's still not found the onion bag in 6 appearances this season but only has a total of around 180 mins worth of playing time on the pitch. Rhodes still ended up as Blackpool's leading scorer, by some way. Goal scoring duties were then mostly shared between Karamoko Dembélé (8), now on loan at QPR and Jake Beesley (7), with Shane Lavery (now at Cambridge) and Sonny Carey chipping in with 5-a-piece.
Last season, across 3 spells, Blackpool were stuck in 8th place for almost half the season, only once reaching the dizzy heights of 7th. They finished 3 points shy of Barnsley to miss out on the play-off's. A slow start to this season saw Neil Critchley ditched before the end of August and Bruce parachuted in after the Transfer Window closed.
On the tellybox
HTTV, which is what used to be iFollow. There's a shed load of EFL Cup and EFL Trophy games on Sky Sports+ tonight, and the three rescheduled League One games are now being shown though they were originally 3:00 pm kick-off's on the Saturday. The website I use isn't listing them, but this one is - https://www.skysports.com/watch/sport-on-sky for UK and ROI viewers.
Latest news
Snoots broke the news that the egg chasers are looking to build a new ground that they won't rattle around in quite so much. The noises coming from the Council would seem to indicate it was news to them too, but given they don't want any part of the McGalphsmiths anymore I think they need to be a bit less cloth eared about it. The might be a temporary vacancy at The Shay sometime soon unless someone starts paying the Halifax egg chasers' bills.
Blackpool turned their annual Autumn Illuminations fancy light bulb show on on 1st September. Originaly an idea to extend the English Summer holiday and hence hotel season for a few more weeks after everyone went back to work, they were first switched on in 1879. I'm sure they used to be done and dusted by the end of October in my youth, they now run into the New Year with lights out on January 7th.
It's not quite Las Vegas, but Blackpool's become more like the seedier side of Las Vegas over the the last 20-30 years or so. The "Golden Mile" of my youth looks more like about 880 yards of sleeze these days. I dare say you can still find a comedian at the end of one of the piers though. That's in addition to Bruce.

Out Injured/Suspended/Isolating
Duff Duff repored no further injuries after Saturday
Back training but not oven ready/Back in the frame
He didn't appear to allude to any of the walking woulded coming back for this game either.
Musical Interlude
Sorry, couldn't resist it ...
Arguably Blackpool's most famous export, apart from little sticks of rock. If ever a song about Blackpool could have had a more apt title
I spotted a YouTube video titled "The 10 Best Things to do In Blackpool"
I'd think it would go something like ...
1. Get on the M55 and drive towards Preston
2 - 9. See 1.
10. Keep going.
Well, all that Illuminations traffic needs to get Fylde out of there somehow.
Last time out
As I might have mentioned elsewhere, Saturday was a classic case of "After the Lord Mayors Show".
Duff Duff likes to play a 3-5-2 formation, which works great against sides that want to try and play against us. However it falls flat on it's arse when teams sit back then lob one over our press for a speedy forward to run onto. Given most of our back three have the speed and apparent turning circle of The Queen Mary with a broken rudder, it's causing us problems. It's starting to look like other teams are doing their homework on us and it's becoming questionable what homework we're doing on them.
![[Image: YkARs3T.png]](https://i.imgur.com/YkARs3T.png)
Town missing penalties at home? Well we hardly ever get them and we miss them when we do, so nothing new there.
Blackpool, after that less than auspicious start to the season, won at Charlton to make it two wins from 2 for Brucey. Both 2:1.
![[Image: axap1pD.png]](https://i.imgur.com/axap1pD.png)
Town dropped a place in the face of that 1:3 defeat as Wrexham stayed on top with a win at home to Crawley, Brum won their 5th on the bounce at Rotherham (quite) to stay 2nd, Barnsley jumped into 3rd with a win at Burton,. Charlton dropped to 4th with that home defeat, Lincoln's goalless draw with Wigan has them 6th and fast starting Smogport dropped out of the Top 6 after they were battered 1:4 at home by Orient, who jumped up to 20th as a result.
![[Image: L8agQeK.png]](https://i.imgur.com/L8agQeK.png)
The Sack Race
Cardiff lost 0:2 at home to L666s on Saturday, leaving them rooted to the foot of The Chumpionship on 1 point. The Bluebirds decided it was all over for head coach Erol Bulut on Sunday. So he can head back to Germany via Dover. Or maybe just fly home from Cardiff Airport and save the long wait for the ferries.
Mike Williamson parted company with MK Dons last Thursday after they drew 1:1 with Donny Rovers. Prior to that they had won 2 and lost 4. He turned up at Carlisle later the same day. Helluva drive that one. Thick end of 5 hours with a couple of pee and coffee breaks. Tebay Services are always worth a stop though in either direction or Killington Lake on the way back south.
Our old friend Narcis had arrived in Stoke last Wednesday just in time for a drubbing at home to Hull with our old friend Kasey Palmer heavily involved. At least they didn't get too wet.
Tables
Two defeats, two draws, two wins, in that order for Blackpool. You won't be surprised that they are mid-table then?
Other than the 0:3 mugging by Smogport, they've scored at least 2 in every other league game. I Hope Duff Duff is aware!!
![[Image: pdpaHJe.png]](https://i.imgur.com/pdpaHJe.png)
Innies and Outies
Apart from signing Jordan Rhodes full time from us, here's a few more. They brought a few quid in by selling a keeper to Plymouth, but I expect Brucey to blow the budget right out of the Irish Sea come January. They were clever to wait until this month to appoint him.
![[Image: Shkwa1g.png]](https://i.imgur.com/Shkwa1g.png)
Who's banging 'em in
Their leading scorer is currently fullback, James Husband. How novel, a defender as leading scorer. 'Ood-a-thunk eh?
Kyle Joseph is just one behind him.
![[Image: O1uT3ZC.png]](https://i.imgur.com/O1uT3ZC.png)
They can't all win
Three rearranged games on Tuesday night. We get the chance to move back into the top 3 or possibly drop another place if we put in another abject performance.
![[Image: nrYubkI.png]](https://i.imgur.com/nrYubkI.png)
We've played 'em before
Town are a shade in front in the League but woeful in the Cup competitions. Good job it's a League game then.
Recent home form against them is hit and miss to say the least.
![[Image: F5YYhM1.png]](https://i.imgur.com/F5YYhM1.png)
Next up?
We've two away games at Reading and Brum. Both are on the tellybox so no doubt whatever protest the Reading fans are supposedly planning, it will get broadcast far and wide.
Pressers
Tom Lees and Duff Duff
Lees kicks off a surprisingly early 02:03 in but it's 34:40 before Duff Duff says his stuff stuff.
The views from Blackpool Tower.
Brucey says it will be tough. We know, there won't be many there to witness it either. Town fans that is.

2 points for correct result
4 points for correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score (correct score on a joker would give you 8 points)
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Badger gives you 2 points
The prize for winning the league is one rep point.
Cup games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. However, if you do predict a draw and it's a match that won't be going to a replay, you can get a possible extra point by stating which of the two teams you think will eventually win.
Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in.
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.
At the end of the season, the winner of group 2 and the bottom of group 1 will swap places in what is commonly known as "promotion" and "relegation". It's something that most football fans will be familiar with, unless you're a fan of Liverpool or Arsenal or one of those other fashionable clubs.
The second placed player in group 2 will then have a play off with the player who finishes second from the bottom in group 1 to decide whether they will be going up, down or staying where they are.
We're going to have two seasons in one though, just to try and make it a bit more interesting and not so long drawn out. The first season will end on the Boxing Day fixtures, with the play offs being on the dates of the Twixtmas fixtures and the NYD fixtures.
The second season will start the following week, which is usually the FA Cup 3rd round, finishing on the last game of the League One season. Then another period of relegation/promotion play off games, taking in such fixtures as the EFL play offs, FA Cup Final, UEFA finals and such like.
Each group will have it's own set of fixtures. Both groups will have the Town games, with scorers to predict as before. Then it will be a split of League One fixtures and bonus matches, hopefully around ten, eleven or twelve games per Matchday.
The random badger is restricted to three goal scorers in any of the fixtures in your group.
Here's how that will appear at the end of the fixture list. All you have to do is fill in the blanks.......
*** scores for ***
*** scores for ***
*** scores for ***
Any of those will score two points if correct. No minus points for getting it wrong.
Postponed matches will only count if the match is re-played before the next Matchday is under way. Abandoned matches will be awarded half the points for the score at the time of abandonment, so 1 point if you have the correct result, 2 points if you have the correct score.
Substitute or scorer in one of the Town games:- These will be only be allowed if you change them before the match involved has kicked off.

Millwall
Before taking over as permanent manager in the summer of 2015, Harris had several stints as caretaker manager.
First, he became caretaker manager, along with Scott Fitzgerald, taking over from the sacked Steve Lomas, on 26 December 2013, in which time they played 3 games, drawing one and losing twice, including a 4–1 away loss to Southend United in the FA Cup.The couple were then replaced by Ian Holloway on 7 January 2014.
Harris then again took over as caretaker boss on 10 March 2015, when Holloway was sacked.By the time Harris took over, Millwall were already virtually, whilst not mathematically, relegated, however Harris went on to win 2 and draw 4 of his 9 games in charge, almost keeping the Lions in the Championship. On 28 April, the Lions were officially relegated to League One following Rotherham United's 2–1 win against Reading, however, Harris was confirmed as Millwall's permanent manager less than 24 hours later, with his assistant being his 2004 FA Cup final teammate, David Livermore.
In his first full season as manager Harris led Millwall to the League One play-off final against Barnsley at Wembley after finishing 4th in the League One table and overcoming Bradford City 4–2 on aggregate in the play-off semi-finals. The Lions lost the play-off final 3–1 to Barnsley.
In 2016–17 season Harris again led Millwall to Wembley after they finished 6th in the League One table and overcame Scunthorpe United 3–2 in the play-off semi-finals. Millwall won the play-off final against Bradford City 1–0 to win promotion to the Championship. He also led Millwall to the FA Cup quarter-finals after knocking out three Premier League teams Bournemouth, Watford and Premier League Champions Leicester City before losing 6–0 against Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals.
On 3 October 2019, Harris resigned as manager of Millwall.
Cardiff City
On 16 November 2019, Harris was appointed manager of Championship side Cardiff City. In his first season, he finished 5th in the league taking Cardiff to the play-off semi-finals against Fulham.
On 21 January 2021, Harris was sacked from Cardiff City. The Bluebirds had initially only won three of their opening 13 fixtures of the season, inviting pressure on Harris. Despite later securing a 4-match winning streak, a run 6 straight defeats afterwards sealed his fate as manager.
Gillingham
On 31 January 2022, Harris was appointed as manager of League One side Gillingham, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Kent side. His first season ended in relegation to League Two. After receiving a red card in the penultimate game of the 2021–22 season against Portsmouth, Harris was given a touchline ban that would see him miss the first match of the club's first League Two season in ten years as well as receiving a £1,000 fine.
In the 2022–23 season Harris steered Gillingham to the fourth round of the EFL Cup for only the third time in the club's history. The Gills defeated Premier League side Brentford on penalties in the third round, before succumbing to another top tier side in Wolverhampton Wanderers 2–0 in the following round. He was dismissed from the role in October 2023.[35]
Cambridge United
On 6 December 2023, Harris was appointed head coach of League One club Cambridge United on an 18-month contract.
Millwall (second spell)
On 21 February 2024, Harris returned to Millwall as head coach on an 18-month contract. The Lions were then 21st in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone. Under Harris' stewardship, the club recorded 26 points from 13 games to finish 13th in the table, concluding the season with a 1-0 away victory at Swansea City, which formed part of a five-game winning streak.
Seem to remember we nearly signsed him

CULTURE
Bermondsey Abbey was an English Benedictine monastery. Although generally regarded as having been founded in the 11th century, it had a precursor mentioned in the early 8th century. It was centred on what is now Bermondsey Square, the site of Bermondsey Market, Bermondsey, in the London Borough of Southwark, southeast London, England.

An area blighted by virtually every building in tye area being spray tagged, probably has seen better days, horror of a journey usually takes three hours to crawl about 2 miles to and from the ground.
Alarm set for 5am the utter joy of that
As usual a tough ground to play at but a boon for train spotters

Cardiff City have sacked manager Erol Bulut, with the Bluebirds bottom of the Championship.
Cardiff have picked up just one point from six leagues games and have scored just one goal - their worst start to a season in 94 years.
First-team coach Nikolaos Karydas has also left, with Omer Riza taking charge of the club on an interim basis.
Bulut's final game was Cardiff's 2-0 home defeat against Leeds United on Saturday.
The Bluebirds have also lost to Sunderland, Burnley, Middlesbrough and Derby County, with their only point coming in the south Wales derby against Swansea City.
After a relegation battle in 2022-23, Cardiff improved in Bulut's first year in charge, finishing 12th.
The 49-year-old was rewarded with a new two-year deal in June, which was set to run until the end of the 2025-26 season.
But a calamitous start to this season has seen the Turkish boss sacked after just seven games in all competitions.
"The board of directors wish to thank Erol for all of his hard work and wish him well for the future," said a club statement.
The Bluebirds will now look to appoint a 12th permanent manager in the 14 years that Vincent Tan has owned the club.

How to Bamboozle Donny next time |

Team selection is of course the key to out-Billy-Sharping Saturday's opponents. Controversial it may be but I'm suggesting we go.........
Team Sheet
GK - Ryan Boot (our most senior keeper with a surname even Ederson and every other modern keeper must envy).
Defence - A slightly controversial back three of Palmer, Dunkley, and Grimes. I only wish Dunkley were called Huntley then our centre back pairing could really take the biscuit.
Middle of the park - Again some controversy - Jones as defensive midfield, I suspect he is still alive and on the books, hope so. Then a glorious midfield three could dominate in front of him Fleck, Naylor and Banks.
Up front would be easy were everyone fit - Jacobs, Grigg, Madden.
The tactical masterstroke would be on 55 minutes to flood on the subs, much as they do in rugby union, so we would exchange our front three, get five subs on as follows:-
Drummond, Berry, Colclough, Markanday and Metcalfe. Of course if we felt any need the shore up at the back we might bring on maybe Tanton or Araujo in place of one of them.
Out-speeded and out-thought, having been ground down by age ,youth could finally step in to rip poor old Donny apart.
Just an idea Cookie, and you could go into the record books for fielding the oldest Chesterfield team ever.
