  Rangers v Hibs - Sunday 29 September
Posted by: ritchiebaby - 27-09-2024, 16:36 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (9)

As stated in many of my posts, I don't expect anything from games against the bigot bothers. They should be regarded as a free hit and there's no reason we shouldn't have a real go. Any points gained will be a bonus.

High Noon at Ibrox awaits us on Sunday, a cliff-hanger ending with the under-rated good guy coming out on top is the feel-good finale. We can win this one as both defences are sub-standard, although ours seem to be improving. Chances taken will be the key and I lean towards a home win on that alone.

Shrewsbury Town have revealed that owner Roland Wycherley is "hopeful" of selling the League One club - 28 years after taking charge.

The long-serving Shropshire businessman has had previous reported interest in the club and first announced he was ready to move aside three years ago.

But Town chief executive Liam Dooley says the prospect of a deal is moving closer.

"What I would say is, if [there are] people who want to buy the football club for the values that we are talking about at the moment then the deal can be done," Dooley told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"What we have seen in the past is that it has not been for the want of trying. You have to have a willing buyer and a willing seller.

"At this stage we have got a few people who appear to be that. It is how we get down that next step to make that happen.

"If you want me to give you a percentage then I am not going to do that. But I am hopeful we could have something done by the end of the season."

Wycherley, 83, became the senior figure at the Shropshire club after succeeding Ray Bailey as chairman in 1996.

In that time, he has stabilised Town's finances, helped the club build a new home at Oteley Road in 2007 and a new training ground too.

Shrewsbury are now in their 10th successive season in League One.

Paul Hurst's side currently sit 23rd in the third tier, having lost six of their seven League One games this season.

  Dike on his way??

Interesting comment from Wallace in a BBC interview, "Dike joined us in training this week". Maybe just a month or two more, but would he get in the team? Made me wonder, when Dike is back what happens to Wallace who has been replacing Mata?

Birmingham City v Huddersfield Town

at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

Huddersfield Town embark on an away day double header this week with trips to Reading at the Majestic Ballroom on Saturday lunchtime and then we meet our old leaky blinders friends Birmingham City at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park on Tuesday night.

Being away from the toxic atmosphere of the John Smith's Stadium will hopefully be a blessing for our beleaguered boys who have had all their confidence knocked out of them by two depressing home defeats. There will be a similar feel to the atmosphere at the Reading ground as their fans ar planning some kind of protest, which if what we're led to believe could come in the form of a match ending, pitch invasion. The difference here being that their beef is with the Board and not particularly the players.

I don't know. It's just a game, for goodness sake. Blush

Thankfully we will have the vast experience of top striker Danny Ward, back in the starting XI after his enforced mini break. Hopefully, his knockers will have noticed how much we miss him when he's not there, as his replacements have not managed half of the work he gets through. The same goes for Jonathan Hogg, the General. He may be past his best, but we didn't half miss him on Tuesday night with that powder puff midfield showing. Apparently Hoggy had a tight groin for the Blackpool match, which isn't as bad as feared and so should make the start of this one. Mickel Miller and David Kasumu could both also feature somewhere over the next two games and Chris Maxwell is said to be over his virus issues.

Not such good news about Michal Helik though. He's got a hamstring injury and will miss the next two months.

Here's a summary of the Michael Duff post Blackpool interview which I've knicked off of Steven Chicken on We Are Terriers........

Quote:“The staff will look at it in terms of did we pick the right team? Is it the right shape? But we played three shapes there and didn't look good in any of them.

“We’ve got players that 10 days ago looked really good, set play delivery was good, first contacts were good, distances were good between the units…today we looked like we can't take a free kick, can't win a header, can't win a tackle.

“We’ve got three central midfielders in the middle of the pitch and their two are absolutely dominating them — should be the other way around.

“The game's gone. We didn't deserve to win the game, so I think this is bigger than the game today, it's bigger than the three points we didn't get. The frustration on my part is we haven't seen that in the week, so they’re Jekyll and Hyde in terms of the way they train and the quality and the energy and the intensity, and then mainly at home, whenever anything sort of half gone against us, we've sort of capitulated.

“It's a mentality. It has to be a mentality, because you don't become a good player and a bad player in 10 days. That's what we have to get some of at the football club.

“We need to earn the supporters’ trust. The supporters have watched two or three years of really, really poor performances, so it's hard to get them off their seats and we didn't do that today. It was a hard watch and there’s no getting away from that.”

And here's the pre match presser for Reading.........

I've not done any of my usual features for this match thread. For one, we've done Reading and Birmingham City many times over the last few seasons and quite frankly if the players can't be bothered to turn up, then neither can I. In summary though, we played Reading at Wembley a few years ago and Birmingham are a bit of a bogey team at the JSS, but we do quite well at St Andrews.

Head to Head

Reading lead the head to head with 27 wins to Town's 18, with 14 draws.

The last game was played on the 8th of May 2023. Reading were heading for relegation, we had just completed a great escape under the management of Neil Warnock.......

Town lead the head to head with 44 wins to Birmingham's 41, with 36 draws.

Twelve months on from that Reading game, almost, on the 27th of April 2024 came our most recent meeting with Birmingham City. Both teams were heading for relegation this time and were both booed off by each set of supporters. Re-live that special moment here....... Sick

Sheff Wed & Middlesbrough vs WBA - Match Thread
Posted by: Ska'dForLife-WBA - 26-09-2024, 17:22 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (9)

The wins keep coming for Albion, who presently stand on the verge of four consecutive away victories for the first time since December 2019. Hillsborough is the destination for Saturday's early kick-off, where - despite masterminding a great escape turnaround for Wednesday last season that Carlos Corberan would have been proud of - Danny Röhl has overseen a rougher start to the new campaign than the 4-0 opening day win against Plymouth, or indeed the months of positive results that preceded it, might have suggested. Switching to a back five in the last fortnight has resulted in some improvement, though the absence of Di'Shon Bernard (who was dismissed somewhat dubiously for an alleged handball against Luton, and failed in his appeal against suspension) weakens the Owls defence for this encounter, and Röhl will have to choose between plugging the gap with Michael Ihiekwe, the returning Dominic Iorfa or youth prospect Gabriel Otegbayo, who performed well against Blackpool in the League Cup. Ex-Villa man Barry Bannan has supplied the last couple of league goals for Wednesday, and will be one for us to watch out for; meanwhile, Albion are still missing Jayson Molumby to a calf injury, so Uros Racic will be likely to deputise in the middle of the park again. It's no secret that our goal threat will come from Tom Fellows teeing up Josh Maja, who's been prolific on the road so far and could become the first Albion player to find the net in four consecutive away matches since Diomansy Kamara in February 2007 if he scores in this one; keeping that pair quiet will therefore be integral to Wednesday's chances of success.

I do think the Owls are liable to click into gear at some point soon, and our 3-0 defeat at Hillsborough back in April is a reminder that with the home crowd behind them, they're more than capable of doing it against us. But on paper we go to the Steel City as favourites, and have to look to live up to that label with a point or three if we can turn in another solid performance. Should we slip up, the visit of mid-table Middlesbrough to the Hawthorns on Tuesday evening for our first mid-week league fixture of the campaign will be an opportunity to make instant amends, or to consolidate our lead if we return from Hillsborough with the points at the weekend.

  Interim
Posted by: themaclad - 26-09-2024, 16:13 - Forum: Crawley Town - No Replies

Crawley Town have named Ben Gladwin as interim head coach after Scott Lindsey left the club to join MK Dons.

Gladwin, 32, joined the Reds as first-team coach this summer and will be in the dugout for Saturday's League One match against Bolton Wanderers at Broadfield Stadium.

The former midfielder retired from his playing career at Crawley this year, having made 190 professional appearances for clubs including QPR and Swindon Town.

Crawley said the search for Lindsey's permanent successor had begun and the club will "confidently recruit a new leader who will actively embrace a data-driven approach and partner with the club's ownership and management to push the club forward".

The club sit 18th in League One with seven points from their opening six games under Lindsey.

Lindsey joined Crawley in January 2023 and led the Sussex club to promotion to the third tier via a League Two play-off final victory over Crewe Alexandra at Wembley last season, having dismantled MK Dons 8-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

Two of Lindsey's promotion-winning players, Lawrence Maguire and Liam Kelly, moved to Dons in the summer.

Posted by: themaclad - 26-09-2024, 16:12 - Forum: MK Dons - No Replies

MK Dons have appointed Crawley Town boss Scott Lindsey as their new head coach.

The 52-year-old drops down a division to replace Mike Williamson, who left Stadium MK last week to take over at Carlisle United.

Lindsey led Crawley to promotion from the fourth tier last season, crushing MK Dons 8-1 on aggregate before a 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at Wembley.

"I think it's clear to everyone just how much potential there is at MK Dons, and I'm thrilled to be joining to help achieve it," he told the Dons website.

"I can't wait to get stuck in with the players, and look forward to meeting the supporters as soon as possible."

First-team coaches Jamie Day and Carl Laraman, and goalkeeping coach Steve Hale, have also made the move from Crawley.

Lindsey was in charge of the West Sussex club for 20 months, having left previous club Swindon Town to join them in January 2023.

Crawley are 18th in League One, while the Dons are one place lower in League Two following Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Doncaster Rovers, when long-serving defender Dean Lewington was in caretaker charge.

Lindsey is their fifth boss since Russell Martin left to take over at Swansea City in the summer of 2021.

And he is the first to be appointed since owner Pete Winkelman sold the club to a Kuwait-based consortium, headed by businessman and entrepreneur Fahad Al Ghanim.

The new chairman said: "It's clear to everyone who's followed the EFL over the last few years just how good a coach Scott Lindsey is.

"Having met with him, I was encouraged to hear how he thinks we can improve, and ultimately convinced by his vision for the team."

Number one target

Image caption,

MK Dons climbed as high as the Championship in the 2015-16 season but Lindsey's first task will be to try and restore the League One status they lost via relegation in 2023.

He was in charge at Crawley for 87 games, the last one a 2-1 defeat at league leaders Wrexham on Saturday.

Sporting director Liam Sweeting was in charge of finding a replacement for Wiliamson and he said: "I don't think it's much of a secret to say Scott was our number one target from day one, so I'm absolutely delighted that he's agreed to join the club at such an exciting time.

"Scott's footballing record in recent seasons is phenomenal, proving time and again that he can maximise what's in front of him and develop a brilliant coaching environment."

The length of the contract agreed with Lindsey, who also achieved promotion in 2017 when he was assistant manager at Forest Green Rovers, has not been disclosed by the club.

Meanwhile, Crawley chairman Preston Johnson said: "Scott was such a big part of the success we had in the last year or so. We wanted Scott to stay with us, but ultimately he made the decision to leave, which we respect."

They plan to utilise a "data driven approach" to find his successor.

Well, how ironic - the man who masterminded the demolition of the Dons in last season’s play-offs is now their manager.

Scott Lindsey’s Crawley side went on to win at Wembley, but now he’s dropping back down to League Two at Stadium MK following the departure of Mike Williamson.

And two of his players from Crawley, Lawrence Maguire and Liam Kelly, are already there.

The new Kuwaiti owners have acted swiftly to replace Williamson, and with a man who knows the division rather than a higher-profile name.
