Sunday, Bloody Sunday!!!!!! We went into Sunday’s games this week with some decent scores building, a great chance for a win for Forest at lowly Wigan and with all players bar one predicting that way, Wigan’s 1-0 win meant a -3 on that game was scored. But thats ok, we were left with the Gamball, a sure win for the Scousers over the ailing Mancs and everyone gets a positive on the Gamball!! As it was that game produced a whopping -24 points as all bar one player predicted the predictable Liverpool win!!!

After all that this weeks top scorer was AAA with 13 points, the only player not to lose on the Gamball by virtue of his policy of not playing it!!! He actually got no correct scores but did get 6 correct results including his bonus ball. In 2nd spot is Sanjay on 10 points, the second week in a row being in 2nd. A correct result bonus and scoring on half the games helped him into double figures. Joint 3rd is Derby and BBB on 9 points each. BBB was the only player with a maximum on the Bonus ball and Derby was one of only two players to pick up the extra point on the Scoreball.

St Charles occupies 5th spot with 6 points, despite a week leading 2 correct scores his inability to get anything right on his balls cost him dearly. 6th spot with 4 points is shared by three players - Themaclad, Bomber and Beefy - 2 of the top three and the basement bargain!! Not much to say about any of them really, Themaclad did at least get a correct result on the bonus but this was offset by the other two managing to at least get one correct score each!! In last place this week on just 3 points is our early league leader Zinman who sees his recent slump continue by scoring on only 2 games, luckily for him one of those was his bonus ball and he also got the scoreball so he managed to stay in positive territory.

Cheers
SCO

BaggieOne 16pts 3CS 6CR -3GB 3BB 0SB
MightyBrom 12pts 1CS 4CR 0GB 3BB 1SB
Twerton 11pts 1CS 5CR -3GB 3BB 1SB

Lady Jane 7pts 0CS 4CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Joker 6pts 1CS 3CR -3GB 3BB 0SB
Amelia 6pts 0CS 3CR 0GB 0BB 0SB
Snooty 4pts 1CS 4CR -3GB -3BB 0SB

A game of two halves - or more accurately, a weekend of 2 days. All was looking rosy on Saturday night with the possibility of this being the highest scoring week of the season so far, but then Sunday came and produced a total of -18 points. It could have been worse if Amelia and Mighty had played their gamballs as nobody scored a single point on the 2 matches. A mixed week for balls with a total blank on the gamball but very nearly a full set of bonuses - if only Snooty hadn't placed so much trust in his Terriers (again).

It was a good week for promotion challenger BaggieOne - 6 correct predictions, including 3 spot on scores sees him clear at the top of this week's table and increasing the pressure at the top. Two other pacesetters, MightyBrom and Twerton also had good weeks with Mighty's decision not to gamble enabling him to edge 2nd place despite Twerton's extra correct prediction.

The rest of the table are bunched closely together.Stairs and Lady Jane both scored 7, with Joker and Amelia locked together on 6. Snooty sits in his familiar position at the bottom of the table (is he this year's Joker?) thanks to that misplaced bonus ball.

Hibs v Ross County, Sat 26 Oct, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 23-10-2019, 00:19 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (5)

IMO this match would be a welcome win for Hibs and their beleaguered manager who has been given a resounding "thumbs down" Thumb down in a recent Hibs fans' poll beckoning Hibs board to take action and "get rid" asap - a 92% opinion to move him on!! Continuous match observations for months definitely self-evident in this poll!!
So what does Hecky do on Saturday v a team that they would normally beat? Lets just see if he opts for his usual "one up top" eh v a team that will be "licking their wounds" after a 6-0 "doing" at Celtic Park. I think Hecky leaves Hibs if they lose! But how to win it? Well, first of all we need our strikers to be motivated to start scoring goals for us, ESPECIALLY THE EASY TAP INS IN FRONT OF THE OPPOSITION GOAL!!!!!!!!! Secondly, lets enhance the creation of the scoring opps for these guys and make sure they get lotsa scoring chances! Hence we play a hi press mid permutation with both wing backs prominent in "forcing back" the Staggies into their defensive shell which Celtic showed to be fragile and easily "pierced"!!! Will Heckingbottom play this kinda system? I personally don't see it happening after watching the limitations of his game plans in match after match after match...……

Wednesday sees the first of two home games against Yorkshire* sides, the first of which sees struggling Middlesbrough come to the John Smith's Stadium, before another struggling side in the form of managerless Barnsley come to town.

Middlesbrough come into tomorrows game on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to leaders West Brom and sit a solitary place above town by one point. There was quite high expectations at the Riverside, but as of yet there has been a failure of ignition to the season.

Since we last met, they have had a few managers but have settled on former Real Madrid and Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate, with former Wolves and Liverpool striker Robbie Keane as his assistant, for now at least, as some fans are beginning to feel that he was a sentimental appointment having had two spells at the club as well as being part of the backroom staff their over the last few seasons. Ultimately he hasnt quite had the effect on the club that supremo Steve Gibson would have hoped for in what is his first job in first team management.

[Image: 0_Middlesbrough-v-West-Bromwich-AlbionSk...onship.jpg]

So what has the season produced for boro so far?

Well the answer is not a lot, they began the season on the telebox away at newly promoted Luton Town, and whilst they did better than us, they did only manage a draw, conceeding in the 85th minute. Their first home game saw them lose 1-0 to Brentford, Ollie Watkins scoring midway through the 2nd half, however, boro did see two first half goals ruled out by the linesman. The rest of August saw them knocked out on penalties at home by Crewe, a second league defeat in a row, this time away at Blackburn, whilst the last 3 games of the month saw them chalk up 5 points, including a 1-0 win at home over Wigan.

September wasn't much better up on the Riverside, although it started off well with a 1-0 victory over Reading. The other two games saw them lose away at Cardiff 1-0 and get thrashed 4-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday, with the Owls scoring all 4 inside the first half, including 2 inside the first 10 minutes.

October has continued in similar fashion which has seen boro edge further down the league, picking up just the solitary point so far, that coming thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to Preston, since then they have lost to Birmingham and the aforementioned West Brom.

[Image: _109298112_shutterstock_editorial_10450482u.jpg]

So what new faces arrived at the Riverside?

Well truth be told they had a relatively quiet summer in terms of arrivals. Other Woodgate and his coaching staff, their was a familiar face returning in the form of Tomas Mejias on a free transfer from Omonia Nikosia, whilst full backs Anfernee Dijksteel and Marc Bola joined from Charlton and Blackpool respectively, Dijksteel costing the club just under £2million of our Great British Pounds. Also joining the club was Marcus Browne a young attacking midfielder from West Ham.

In terms of departures, long time servant Dimi Konstantopolis left the club along with fellow keeper Andy Lonergan, whilst John Obi Mikel and Stewart Downing both sought pastures new in the forms of Trabonzspor and Blackburn. Spot the difference eh?

The club received hefty sums in the summer for underwhelming premier league signing Martin Braithwaite who seemed to cause a few issues (danes eh?) and giant defender Aiden Flint who both ventured abroad to Leganes and Cardiff.

What has been said?

Danny Cowley

“We are in a pretty good place. We are hoping that everyone is available come tomorrow.

“When you have three games in short succession the opportunity to use your squad is a good thing.”

“The response from the goal we conceded at Blackburn disappointed me. We showed some fragility.

“Once we regrouped at half-time, massive credit to the players for how they came out.”

“The overriding positive from that game was the response to the disappointment.

“I would like it quicker, but it was there.

“If you want to be a successful team, you have to get points from different ways like a losing position.”

“For the way we want to play, we have to be brave and make options for players on the ball.

“They are human beings and will make mistakes. The important thing is learning from it and not make the same mistake twice.”

“I think we’ve got a group that are working really hard, committed to the cause and they way we want to play.

“It’s all about how the players commit to the game plan that makes it successful or unsuccessful.”

“Juninho has been excellent. His contribution has been obvious.

“He’s scores three goals in 70 odd minutes.

“He’s a kid that could be anything he wants to be.

“We are trying to manage him and set him up to be the player he’s capable of being.”

“We will play against a team that’s transitioning between two different styles.

“They’ve played a lot in a 4-3-3.

“If you look at recent games, they’ve changed their system a lot and personnel.

“They’re a good team with good players.”

“They’ve got three very big, physical front foot centre halves and a top goalkeeper.

“There’s no doubt in the quality in their squad.

“The challenge for us is to be five unbeaten and then six.”

“I’ve always liked midweek games.

“They’re always special and create a good atmosphere.

“We are looking forward to the atmosphere being cranked up.

“We are hoping it’ll be packed out and the supporters will be right behind the team.”

“Juninho is a lovely kid, really family orientated.

“He’s full of personality and we’ve spoke a lot about getting the most out of him.

“We’ve been managing his talent and our role is teaching him how to manage his own talent.”

“We are pleased that we are four unbeaten, but there’s still a lot to do.

“We are still developing as a team day by day.

“We can definitely improve.”

“We are trying to play in a certain way, which we think is the best way of playing with these players.

“We are finding the way of setting them up for success.”

“Kachunga is a team player and is willing to put the team before him.

“He does an awful lot of work for the team. He did well for Juninho’s goal.

“As a manager you love team players.”

“Chalobah has incredible athletic quality and a really good range of passing.

“We all have to remember he’s still young.

“He can play as a defender, a six, he’s learning the eight role every day.

“He will be a top player and he always wants to learn.”

“Jaden is getting better and better by the game.

“O'Brien has been like two players for us.

“You can see there’s a pathway here for young players.”

“There’s some really exciting young players in the academy.

“Leigh Bromby does a great job. We like the model of the Academy.”

“We are making some small steps and can see the light.

“We are fighting to see more of that light.”

“Jaden is excellent in the one vs one moments.

“There’s elements of his game we are trying to add to.

“He’s thriving under the challenge and we are working hard with him on the training pitch.

“He’s getting better and better.”

Who are their key men?

Assombalonga- Formerly of Peterborough and Nottingham Forest. A top quality striker when fit, has pace and strength and could give towns two centre halves a tough time. Has scored 4 goals this term so far and is currently their top scorer in the league.

Randolph- As key as a good striker is at the top of the pitch, a good goalkeeper is equally key at the other end and in Darren Randolph boro have one there. Now 32 the former West Ham and Charlton man has settled down at the Riverside joining after they got relegated from the premier league.

Team news

Town are hopeful to have a near fully fit squad available, with Kongolo, Bockhorn and Quaner all apparently available if needed. Pritchard will once again be in the squad after making an appearance on the town bench last Saturday but remained unused. Huddersfield striker Karlan Grant has been involved in five goals (four goals, one assist) in his last eight league appearances at the John Smith's Stadium. Following their 3-0 win over Hull City prior to the international break, Huddersfield are looking to win consecutive home league matches for the first time since Autumn 2017, when they beat Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion in the top flight.

Middlesbrough will be will remain without skipper George Friend (knee surgery) and striker Rudy Gestede (hamstring), and there are doubts over Hayden Coulson (knee) as they look to break their away duck this season having amassed just two points on the road. Huddersfield  have lost 11 of their last 14 matches against Middlesbrough in all competitions. Boro are on a run of four straight wins against the Terriers, in which they have scored nine goals and conceded just one. Middlesbrough have not failed to win any of their first six away league matches of a season since 2010-11, under Gordon Strachan, when they did not on the road until November - and ended up finishing 12th under Tony Mowbray.

Britt Assombalonga has been involved in half of Middlesbrough's six away goals in the Championship this season (two strikes, one assist).

Guess who?

I am a midfielder coming towards the back end of my career, famously had a big beard and a punch up with a team mate at training

I am also a midfielder with a beard and felt i was better than what I was, I'm still in the Championship but have been out on loan to league one in the last few seasons

I am a winger, but you may as well call me marmite, you either love me or hate me, the manager at Boro when I was there didnt really play me much

Prolific striker at one time, now I struggle to find my way onto the pitch, let alone a goal. Signed for Boro when they were in the premier league but never quite made my mark

Reliable defender, fans were a bit underwhelmed when I joined town, but some wanted me back this summer. Won promotion from the championship twice in the last few years, didn't spend too long at Boro

I joined a David Wagner Huddersfield Town on loan to replace a now international full back. Spent most of my Middlesbrough career out on loan elsewhere. Currently I am plying my trade on the west coast of England on loan. Again.

Had a short loan at Town when I was young, didn't amount to much and I am probably more famous for throwing my Shirt at then manager than anything else. haven't had that bad a career since though.

Answers will be in the next edition of Yorksha Week

*debatable as to whether Middlesbrough counts as being in Yorkshire

Exclamation Prediction League Week 11, Beefy's Gamball Woes to End !!

SMILIES/BALLS

Smartass  Bonus Ball
Tongue  Score Ball, Free to use Ball , play it on a game that you think both teams will score in !
Doh  Gamball,

New Scoring System

Incorrect Result =  0 point
Incorrect Result (Bonus Ball) = -3 * Changed from -2
Incorrect Result (Gamball) = -3
[/color]
Score Ball = 1 added Point if both teams score.  !

Correct Result = +2 points
Correct Result (Bonus Ball) = +3
Correct Result (Gamball) = +5  * Changed from +4
Correct Score = + 4 points
Correct Score (Bonus Ball) = +6
Correct Score (Gamball) = +10   * Changed from +8

As you can see the incorrect scoring has not really changed apart from a wrong Bonus this will be now scored at -3 instead of -2 the reason for this are the gains on the new Gamball scoring you will make (see below) in the hope this encourages you to use it most if not all of the time.

So to the Gamball, the use of the Gamball was tactically not used in some cases last season as the gains we not considered to great compared to the losses, it's for this reason we have decided to change the scoring, The loss will stay the same at -3 but the reward will be a correct result will go up by one from 4 to 5 points and the correct score will go up by 2 from 8 to 10 points !!!
Just a reminder you DO NOT have to play the Gamball if you dont want too, the score will then be marked normal.  Thumb up

Again the third from bottom of the premiership will play off against the third in the table from the Championship to keep even more excitement going, they will have to predict through all the Playoffs and the winner obviously takes their place in the Premier League the following season   Thumb up

Beefy, Bomber, Zinman & SCO   Thumb up

If you do not predict,...........
If in your league everyone scores above zero you will receive Zero points,
However if in your league the person with the lowest score is below Zero (eg -4) you will score -5 and receive your first strike, Remember 3 strikes and you're out.

All scores must be in before MIDDAY SATURDAY,(For The Early Kick Off If Applicable) If the early kick off is missed the rest of your predictions must reach us by 2.45pm or none will be counted.

LAST SEASON

PRESTON NORTH END O LEEDS UNITED 2

A quick turnaround after Saturday's abject display apparently the squad were in early ths morning to discuss how crap they were on the Saturday.
A better display to be expected tomorrow and if if not we will get a roasting by our visitors Leeds, having celebrated their century of existance with a victory over the Yam Yam's on Saturday which took the into second place in the table.
United have changed slightly this season still play quick tempo football but have tightened things up at the back and currently have the best defence in the league whilst we are one of the top scorers at home.
Tuesday nght under the lights with a large attendance although surprisngly as of last Friday United had not sold out, although expect that they will so they will all be Marching all together.
United have not got great depth in the squad but gettng Costa and Arsenal youngster Nketiah does give them a boost.
Expect Alioski to receive a yellow card but only after commiting 50 fouls whilst Pearson will no boubt get a yellow as well which would be his 5th.
Should be fun this is why the Championship is the best league of all

[b]LAST MATCH

Well it was a typical Warnock game at times, particularly the last half hour. We did pretty well for the first hour, deservedly ahead through Borner's clever flick and with other chances to take the lead, Harris unlucky with a free kick that smacked the post and Bannan & Fletch should have done better with there chances. The last half hour was typical Warnock, players "earning" free kicks which led to there "goal". There captain decided to do star jumps in front of Dawson, but despite interfering with play and being offside, the goal stood. Not a bad point but felt like two points dropped.

THE MATCH

Stoke make the short trip to Hillsborough. Stoke had made a shocking start to the season not winning any of there first 10 league games, but have since won back to back games against Swansea and Fulham so come to us in god spirits. They have a decent squad and should be much higher up the table. Nathan Jones the manager has been walking a tightline with much talk about him getting sacked but those back to back wins should help his cause, but with football these days, who knows.

HTAFC Prediction League 2019/20 Matchday 13
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 21-10-2019, 08:55 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (17)

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

  The Wrexham Trilogy
Posted by: spireitematt - 20-10-2019, 23:05 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (7)

So 'The Wrexham Trilogy' continues. Won 1-0 at the Racecourse ground last Tuesday in the league via a calamity of an own goal between a Wrexham defender and the goalkeeper. Drew 1-1 at home on Saturday in the FA Cup and now have to go back to the Racecourse ground on Tuesday for the replay. Still have to play them in the league at home.

Big question is who wants it more? Wrexham or us and have we ever failed to reach the first round of the FA Cup?
