The Wrexham Trilogy
#1
So 'The Wrexham Trilogy' continues. Won 1-0 at the Racecourse ground last Tuesday in the league via a calamity of an own goal between a Wrexham defender and the goalkeeper. Drew 1-1 at home on Saturday in the FA Cup and now have to go back to the Racecourse ground on Tuesday for the replay. Still have to play them in the league at home.

Big question is who wants it more? Wrexham or us and have we ever failed to reach the first round of the FA Cup?

Good luck. Think you could do with a good cup run. Doesn't 1997 seem a long time ago now?

We once played Carlisle 4 times in a 3 week period. A league match, a rearranged league match and both legs of the Autoglass Trophy area final.

For the first time ever we will probably not make the first round proper.
"We can concentrate on the league now" will be our mantra.

If we beat Wrexham in the replay, we await a home tie with that big giant Rochdale.

Neither side will be inspired by the draw but winning tonight would be a good idea for both of us. Rochdale are potentially beatable. Obviously neither Wrexham nor us will win the Cup but it would be good for morale not too go out until we play somebody half-decent.

When you play what has seemed to be almost as good a side as you have available on Saturday and only manage a draw, making six changes when away against the same opposition three days later does seem like a recipe for only one result …… and we achieved it.

Does this mean we have prioritised the Notts County game?

Looking at the league table, if we got a run going we could be in the playoffs, this division is so tight and unpredictable. We are unbeaten in 2 games in the league but Notts County are unbeaten in 5. So I think Notts County will be the favourites for Saturday's game.

I'm obviously a bit disappointed we aren't in the FA Cup 1st round for the first time ever but I think the league is more important, we desperately need to get out of this division and when I say get out I hope that means  Thumb up not  Thumb down. A lot of fans need to realise we aren't a Football League club anymore or a 'big club'. We are a poor non-league side which needs reviving.

I really hope we won't be playing the same team against Notts County that we played last night, that's the sort of line-up you expect to play in the Derbyshire Senior Cup. The team which has won two on the bounce is the team which needs to start.

We could reach the play-offs, equally if we build a rocket we might reach the moon.

Spyrou and Boden didn't seem a likely combination, any more than Gerrard and Hollis, so I hope we come up with something different against Notts County, but deliberately losing third game into a winning run doesn't sound like good psychology to me.

I think getting out of the bottom seven sounds a more realistic aim than reaching the play-offs fuelled by Irn-Bru and Red Bull.
