Forest v Town - Lock Down Sunday

Sherwood Forest Stadium
Down the river from Smoke-on-Stench
Over the bridge from Lego Lane
Just a short walk from Hooters
Postcode - give your Satnav a break, you aren't going anyway.

Kick-off 14:15 UK Time
Sunday 28/06/2020

Apparently this is the view from the Stoke end of the river. of what is waiting for us
[Image: 0_Forza-4.jpg]
Forest fans can also order a cardboard cut out of themselves, or like L666s, Osama Bin Liner, to put in their seats. DC will likely put a few of ours on the pitch again.

How's everyone doing out there? Anyone still got a garden shed/back bedroom full of bog rolls, kitchen towels and bars of soap? What caused all of Morrisons hens to stop laying eggs and why are Asda's hens still only laying expensive ones? Anyone going stir crazy?

Everywhere for most of the last 3 months has been a bit like this

Until the sun came out again (no not the fish and chip paper) .

Not if you live in Bornmuff it isn't and some of the scousers were well and truly socially undistanced Thursday night too. Obviously haven't learn from the fact they are in one of the country's Covid hot-spots that was mostly sparked by a Europa League game played at Anfield. Doh

Town head down the M1 on Sunday while the travelling fans stay at home and try and watch the match on their phone, tellybox or not if the EFL have their way again, while having a few beers in their own private beer garden. my noisy neighbours over the road are having a full scale practise by the sound of it without watching any football.

On the tellybox
Well if you're a Season Card Holder you might be lucky enough for the EFL to have got their collective fingers out and sorted the complete and utter cock-up that was last Saturday on iFollow. On the other hand you might just about be able to tune in by 14:30. Otherwise we've been shuffled off to Sunday afternoon so the hordes that watch on Sky down the pub can do so this weekend. Oh, wait a minute.

Otherwise it's on tellybox channels in all these other wonderful places to live.

I think I'll trust my Now TV subscription for this one. Oggy and Herr Schnitt can talk to themselves as far as I'm concerned.

Latest news
Where to start?

The good news, by this time next weekend the pubs will be back open.
The bad news, you'll probably have to queue to get in, or book an appointment (wtf is that about?) and give them your name, address, date of birth, inside leg measurement hand over your first born and credit card details so they can flog them off on eBay at the end of the month.

The Prima Donna League have cut the parachute payments on the back of having to pay back (or not receiving as much from) TV rights holders.

As Snoots reported a result of this is Danny Simpson was told his "agreed" one month contract extension was pulled just before kick-off last Saturday. We could have waited until after the match to tell him but I doubt it would make much difference. Grabara has been released back to Liverpool, well we don't need him and Lossl. Town are hoping returning 3-some Ryan Schofield (Livingston) along with Swindon promotion-winner Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Rotherham's promoted winger Josh Koroma can be played if required.

With a bit of luck, Campbell and Mounié will have learned to socially distance and won't have bumped into each other in training again this week, Pritchard might be fit enough to start, Smith-Rowe will have recovered from warm weather syndrome and stopped throwing up and Bacuna has enough training in his legs so he doesn't cramp up again.

Last time out
A certain left-footed right winger received a longball and cut into the box to score with his left foot in the far corner for Forest's opener against Wendies last weekend. His name will come to me. Meanwhile Town huffed and puffed and eventually gave up against Wigan.

Tables
You can't rely on the tables after only one match, but one match after a 3 month break they still don't make good reading.

Form
We both need some.

Innies and Outies
You'll be pleased to know that Forest fans are as underwhelmed with Diakhaby as we were/are.

Who's banging 'em in
That's him - 2nd on the list of goalscorers and assists. We should make a bid for him, but knowing our lot we'd end up paying Forest £5million just to get Diakhaby back.

They can't all win
All the games that are fit to watch and plenty more that aren't, based on what's been on the tellybox so far.

Down amongst the dead men Stoke and Boro are favourites to take points off each other in Colin's first game back from semi-retirement.
Any truth in the rumour he's got this lad in as his driver?
[Image: 14bc0f55-4724-4a48-8161-3f188cdae9fe.jpg...&width=720]
Apparently he knows his way around the North-East blindfold. Whistle

We've played 'em before
Town have won 5 out of the last 7, with Forest winning 1. I wouldn't bet against them making it 2 on Sunday.

Next up?
Brum away early on Wednesday evening. Apparently it's a time travelling thing, we're not using the Team Bus as we've borrowed the Tardis off yon Huddersfield lass with the fantastic screwdriver.

I noticed I got my refunds for both these tickets, minus the P&P charge. Now fair enough for the Forest game, I've still got the ticket, but they never sent them out for the Brum game, cheeky barstewards that are Ticketmaster.

Ron Gordon still upbeat for the future!
Posted by: 0762 - 25-06-2020, 23:59 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (1)

Ron adamant that Hibs are still in "very good financial shape" during a period in which the board is "navigating through the storm". Also praising the players for taking deferrals in a voluntary initiative to enhance the financial health of the club. Sadly one casualty in this cost-cutting initiative is the Hibs Youth Academy which has been put on "pause". No doubt, difficult times ahead as cash inflow will be cut by 50% but Ron insisting that he still intends to strengthen the Hibs squad this summer. Two "big pillars" being emphasised and discussed with the players - 1. Having costs in the right place and reducing an operating budget to one that is reasonable. 2. Hibs still need to compete and look at ways to improve the team and indeed become a better team.

Brentford vs WBA - Friday 26th June 7.45pm
Posted by: Ska'dForLife-WBA - 25-06-2020, 17:08 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (30)

The resumption of Championship football might not have given us too many fireworks at the Hawthorns, but Albion are top of the league after a weekend that went in our favour. Now the mission is to stay there, and that challenge takes us to Griffin Park on Friday night, where we face a Brentford side fresh from beating Fulham and set for a late promotion charge of their own.

Needless to say this is one of the two most important fixtures we have left to play, and alongside the Fulham game, it's down as a must-not-lose. Hopefully that won't mean parking the bus - not least because I don't think we have the defensive resilience to do that for a full ninety minutes - but when venturing forward, we need to be a lot quicker on the ball and decisive in the final third than against Blues.

It's scheduled to be our last visit to Griffin Park, as Brentford move to a new home next season, and an odd farewell it'll undoubtedly be. Our first match there ended in a 2-2 draw in 1936, while our most recent trip was a creditable 1-0 win last spring. A repeat of either result would be welcome tomorrow night.

THE MATCH

SUNDAY 28TH JUNE 12:00PM KICK OFF

LAST MATCH

So the first game back after the 3 month hiatus, we manage to snatch a point. Monk changed the system to 352 and it seemed to work OK. Wildsmith returned to the net and Rhodes & Wickham started up front. Both teams had a few chances in the first half but n either could find the net. Onto the 2nd and we started the better, Rhodes hit the post and Lee had his shot somehow blocked on the line. We made afew changes and Forest took the lead as Lolley got down the right, cut in and fired past Wildsmith. It looked like it would be a losing return until Wickham headed in from 6 yards in injury time.

THE MATCH

Bristol still hope for promotion in the playoffs and are only 2 points off sixth place. We beat these 1-0 at Hillsborough earlier in the season with a late Bannan penalty. They returned with a 3-1 defeat at Blackburn. They are managed by Lee Johnson and still have a former RB of ours Jack Hunt. They have more to play for although we should be looking over our shoulder as we are only 8 points off relegation and with a possible points deduction too.

Preston North End v Cardiff City Deepdale 27/6/2020

Little did I realise that I would still be doing this season's match threads in the week that next seasons fixtures should have actually been released.

An interesting set of fixtures this week Bees v Baggies, Marching on Together against those from the Cottage and now added significance in out game against Cardiff.
Given our failure to beat a poor Luton side last week and the Bluebirds victory over Leeds, teams are now level on points.
First of all Cardiff were defensively impressive against Leeds last week although has to be said if Bamford is in the opposition you do stand a chance of keeping a clean sheet.
Was intially surprised by their lie up with the likes of Flint and Tomlin on the bench but the rest of them did a number on Leeds.
The first meeting at Cardiff we should have won but our shoot to miss policy was to the fore once again totally dominated the game which coincidentally was also on TV,
Have some fun Cardiff memories especially Mark Kennedy's magnificent diving own goal in a 6-0 hammering about 10 years ago when like now both sides were vying for the play offs. Over the years City have had some real hammerings at Deepdale 5-0 in 1996 and the 9-0 in the mid sixties although when beating us 1-0 at Deepdale which sent us down under Tango Man.
Will see seem seeing a home game via television, we are also on again on Wednesday against Direby.
One area which needs to be improved our use of substitutes Luton were intelligent with theirs last week ours added nothing.
Match Officials: Cardiff City Home

Ollie gave Albion an iffy penalty last time he rocked up

For Preston North End’s first home game after the resumption of the Championship, referee Oliver Langford will be the man in the middle
It will be the match official’s second visit to Deepdale this season, having been the man with the whistle for our live TV game against West Bromwich Albion back in November, when a late penalty gave the Baggies the win.

The previous season, Oliver was in charge of three of our Championship matches in 2018/19. His last being the 1-0 derby day win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, when Daniel Johnson scored the winner. The ref was also the match official at the end of January, as the Lilywhites triumphed 2-0 at the Bet365 Stadium against Stoke City.

Prior to that he refereed our Carabao Cup third round tie with Middlesbrough back in September and before that it had been 12 months since he last took charge of a game at Deepdale.

The West Midlands official, prior to the aforementioned Boro game, last took charge of another previous clash with Cardiff City at Deepdale in September 2017, when the Lilywhites ran out 3-0 winners against Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds.

The previous season he took charge of another three North End games. His first was the live Sky victory over Wigan Athletic back in September 2016, his second, our first match of the new year, at Burton Albion and his third the goalless draw away at Barnsley in February.

He also twice took charge of the Lilywhites in 2015/16; the goalless draw against Derby County, when goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard made his debut for the club, and the April trip to Middlesbrough.

His first game in change of North End before that was the clash with Swindon at the County Ground in November 2014.

This will be his first Bluebirds game of the season, having officiated 28 games, that have seen 112 cautions and four red cards so far.

He will be assisted by Phil Dermott and Jonathan Hunt, with experienced Championship match official Rob Jones acting as the fourth official for the game.

..... when the season ends, do we actually WANT to go back up into the Greed League?
I would say 'yes' - but would definitely understand others saying 'no'!

Also, this Saturday: Leeds v Fulham. What's best for us?
I'd say a Leeds win which would keep the gap between the top 2 and the rest as big as it can be* - as I've already said, personally to finish 1st OR 2nd would be just fine and dandy.

(* providing we can avoid defeat at Brentford!)

Thoughts?
