  Can we do it?
Posted by: Dancingwilldoit - 06-03-2021, 22:42 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (41)

The transformation has been astounding since Rowes arrival. We are now a team. So difficult to pick a MOM every game. Can we get the automatic promotion place, or will it be the play offs? 5 months ago either would have been a dream.
From relegation candidates to promotion possibilities. Its a long time since I have felt so positive. Long may it continue.

Preston North End v AFC Bournemouth Deepdale 6/3/2021
Posted by: themaclad - 04-03-2021, 20:18 - Forum: Preston North End - Replies (5)

Here we are 1 year on, this weekend marks the anniversary of no fans in the ground, personal view without fans the game is just a pale shadow of what it used to be.
This is also Bournemouth's first league visit since 16/2/2013 a match whic North End won 2-0 the thing that was special about this game was it was the first one after medal winner was potted, the atmosphere on the ground that day was up there with the best ever experienced, at the time the Cherries were wending their way up the league but that day were no match for John Dreyer's whites.
Thwe first time they played at Deepdale was also memorable they lost 5-2 Charlton scored two and Bournemouth had two sent off.

LAST TIME OUT

BRISTOL CITY 1 AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2

Having potted Tindall the Cherries turned to Woodgate to hopefully steer them up into the top league presently in the last play off position they will present a tough proportion for our highly inconsistent side
They played a 433 system at Ashton Gate with our ex Ben Pearson in the midfield three. They had a fairly strong bench as well on Wednesday night able to bring on the likes of Billing.
The front three have scored nearly 30 goals between them, they can get a bit excitable, Lerma spent the entire afternoon against Watford winding up the opposition worked a treat.
Would have been interesting if fans had been in to see what reaction Ben would get after his non too complementary remarks about our old training ground

As for us still need a seven points at minimum to ensure safety the pressure still on Neil at the moment as some of the recent performance have been a little lacklustre but one thing that does mystify me is teh lack f substitutes can use five we used three on Tuesday with one coming on with a minute to go utterly pointless, some managers have been more savvy on this score can remember the Luton game after project restart Jones brought on three at the same time and it paid off seems at time the boss has little trust in some of those on teh bench, odd really

Uncle Rupert's successors have succeeded in successfully securing the move of this second successive home game to the Friday night footy slot. Whether or not Town can succinctly secure 3 points against an opponent who are enjoying a succession of unbeaten games as opposed to our side who have succumbed to far too many defeats this year, is open to a mass debate, generally on bigger forums with hundreds more mass debaters on them than ours. Town fans everywhere round the globe will be able to savour the delights of our, so far, unsuccessful, sad sack side as they bid to save the season before it completely succ's.  Smartass

Did you know succotash is actually a veggie meal?
Yup, one of those corn and beanz-meanz-fartz jobs without the tomato sauce, though you can add tomatoes if you wish, apparently.
Well why not? It might be rude not to.

This will be Mick McCarthy 1000th game as Manager/Head Coach.
I'd like to think we'd give him a game to remember for all the wrong reasons, but 'hmmmmmm' I have my doubts.  Sad

It's just over a year since I did this fixture last season. Hmmm, maybe I should have checked before I put my hand up.
Better find summat new to say then. Don't want the Bluebirds all over a copy and paste joker.

Out Injured/Suspended
Town currently have 10 players on the treatment table.
Two of them are swapping sicknotes if not sharing the same one (Ward and Pritchard - hell it's his quad now instead of his knee).
Anything to pick up a wage but avoid playing.
These two get injured just sitting on the subs bench, or putting their kit on to sit on the subs bench.
The others -
Eiting, won't be back to finish his loan this season (if at all) in my opinion,
Aarons, next month earliest,
Elphick, only just back in training/playing practise matches, might play a couple of games near the end of the season,
Grant (no, not Karlan) - hmmm, whenever he can step up to training to at least once per day rather than once or twice per week he might get considered.
Keep eating the stew lad,
Hogg, should be back soon. Whenever it is, it won't be soon enough,
Koroma, might be back late April, don't hold your breath on that one,
Schindler, after much needless fannying around, our physio's and doc finally decided he was injured after all.
The operation he's finally had may mean we don't see him in a Town shirt again with his contract running out and there seemingly being no rush to renew it. A shame if it's true.
Toffolo, might be back with the Easter bunny to carry more than his fare share of weight again, and do his back in again.

Back training but not oven ready/back in the frame
Elphick clearly won't be available. Jaden Brown is back after suspension. Hogg, Ward and Pritchard back to full training next week.
So that's Ward/Pritchard back on the treatment table by next Friday then.

The Er, I hope this is a typo, otherwise no it's not normal award - Nomination of the week  Laugh
From the Unexamined live presser reporting
CC on Fraizer Campbell
"He's showing an unbelievable skill to play so many games in a row. That is not usual for his age.
The level of effort he is showing, as our GPS results show, is not normal for someone his age.

He runs more than 1,000km at high intensity every two or three days.
I guarantee that is not usual.

So that's ~20 marathons every two or three days, at high intensity. No wonder he's knackered when he plays for us.

They've since edited this to remove the silly numbers altogether.

Last time out
We came joint first, or joint second depending on your point of view, with the 5th (I think) successive (don't start that again) 1-1 League draw at home to Brum.

Cardiff returned to winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of Direby (says it all really) with only around 30% possession.

Form
[Image: Ilvyjh4.jpg]
Dour Barnsalee lad Mick McCarthy was brought in in January on a contract to the end of the season to end the dour football and the dour results Cardiff fans were (not really) enjoying and spread his own version of misery around Cardiff Bay.
Whatever version of misery that is, the Cardiff players seem to have bought into it.

We'd just lost to Millwall at home, Cardiff had just lost to QPR at home. We've won one once since, they haven't lost since. They've drawn 3 (including the first two, one against Barnsalee) and won 8, gone from 14th to 8th and two points off the play-offs in the same period that we've gone from having a similar dying sniff at the play-offs to a good chance of playing Coventry to stay up at the end of the season. Barnsalee haven't been too shabby in the same period either.

"Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" - as they say in France.

Innies and Outies
Top spends were on the £1.17m loan fee for Harry Wilson from Liverpool and £2m (less a bit of loose change) for Kieffer Moore from Wiggin.

Who's banging 'em in
If bringing those two in doesn't seem to count as an astute bit of business, then I don't know what does.
Though it's mostly clicked since Mercurial Mick came along and waved his magic wand.

Apart from everyone in Wales that wears a red shirt and sticks a daff in their ear and thinks they can sing (as long as they are in the Millennium Stadium with a few thousand of their egg chasing mates) here's a few that can, in no particular order.

Blue Weaver, who played keyboard on a helluva lot of albums for a helluva lot of bands but replaced some up and coming keyboard wizard called Rick Wakeman (what ever happened to him?) in a band called The Strawbs.

The view from the other side of the Severn Bridge(s)

Cardiff City have confirmed that defender Joe Bennett has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The left-back went down in a heap in the 4-0 win over Derby County on Tuesday night.
Turning in the middle of the pitch just before half-time, Bennett let out an audible shriek which alerted players and staff to the seriousness of the injury.
Play was stopped for six minutes, with Bennett eventually stretched off in obvious discomfort.

Sounds very similar to Schindy and Koroma's modus operandi of getting injured.

WBA vs Everton & Newcastle - Match Thread
Posted by: Ska'dForLife-WBA - 03-03-2021, 00:57 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (48)

[Image: TELEMMGLPICT000150002566-trans-Nv-BQz-QN...Fj-SOg.jpg]

A win against Brighton, however fortunate it may have been, gives Albion a slender window of opportunity going into March. And the month begins with two home games in four days, the first against Everton on Thursday evening, and the second - a truly crucial clash - against Newcastle on Sunday.

Everton, fresh from their back-to-back wins against Southampton and Liverpool and still well in the mix to challenge for 2nd place in the league, will be formidable opponents. However, they're no strangers to a slip-up here and there, the most recent being a 2-0 home defeat against Fulham on Valentine's Day. Our last triumph over the Toffees at the Hawthorns came under Steve Clarke way back in September 2012, and that record is unlikely to change this week. However, coupled with a positive performance, a draw would be a welcome result.

On the other hand, in the survival stakes, nothing except a win will do against Newcastle. They brought a dire six-week winless run to an end about a month ago, and have notched up another few points since then, but remain highly inconsistent. We can't hope for the kind of luck we had against Brighton two weekends in a row, so Albion will have to be at the races from start to finish on Sunday afternoon, VAR and all.

So the "sands of time" have finally caught up with a past well known Scotland centre forward, Ian St John, who started his great career at Motherwell, his hometown club, and then moved on to Liverpool to commence a famous career during the Shankly era at Annfield. I didn't realise he only acquired 20 Scotland caps but of course he played during a period when some great Scotland centre forwards were vying for that position. Of course he was "weel kent" in his role in the "Saint and Greavsie" tv show that covered footie topics and provided a light-hearted look at popular footie stories during that time. RIP.

St Johnstone v Hibs, Sat 6 March, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 02-03-2021, 01:13 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (12)

This looks like a challenging fixture v a team that has just won the Scottish League Cup after previously easily showing up Hibs as a real "soft touch" in a semi-final at Hampden Park that embarrassed lots n lots of Hibs fans. So they are on a natural "high" while Hibs have just endured a similar embarrassment at home v a team, Motherwell FC, that was being previously "duffed up" by lotsa other Scot Prem clubs. Hibs bizarrely have a vg away record so far this season. So that gives me a slight hope that they could "show up" v St Johnstone on Saturday. I'd expect these players to be motivated against them esp after losing out in that terrible semi-final!! Surely they have some kinda pride to "right a wrong" or are they just a better team than Hibs after all, a side that has found its true form???? I'd luv to see Hibs really give them a "good doing" after what happened at Hampden Park but have no idea what we are gonna get in this match. We are in a 3rd placed position in the Scot Prem - surely another good reason for the players to "show up" and try to win this match. For starters I think JR should definitely drop Doidge and replace him with Kevin Nisbet. Nobody delivering regular goals except Martin Boyle. Therefore change it and demand that someone "steps up to the plate" and start converting the goal opps that are clearly being created. Also deploy a tough marking strategy to nullify the movement of their right wing back Rooney, their key player in recent games - absolutely imperative we do this and do it well!! I hope that Doig also returns as I thought we missed his movement on Hibs left flank although Stevo did reasonably well v M'well. C'mon Hibs.

GGTTH
