The Owls v Noblot L1 Match Thread

THE MATCH

SATURDAY 9TH OCTOBER KO 3:00PM

LAST MATCH

Well, a fairly abject performance saw us go down to Oxford. We did our best to help Oxford by giving them ball as many times as possible and they were rewarded when Brannagan beat BPF at his near post, probably should have saved it tbh. Oxford continued to be the better team and could have added to the scoresheet. Onto the 2nd and SB came on for Gregory and nearly levelled when hitting the post from a header. We did equalize when Paterson headed in Johnsons cross. The game seemed to be heading for a draw but Oxford broke away in injury time & Henry flicked past BPF. We nearly rescued a point when Bazza's long range effort hit the bar.

THE MATCH

Next up Noblot at Hillsborough. We haven't played these for several seasons. They have made a good start to the season and currently lie 7th in the table. They are finding the net on a regular basis, joint second in scoring with 20 but have conceded 15. They are managed by Ian Evatt who took over in 2020 and steered them to promotion last season. They have a couple of ex owls in there squad, one liked (Keiran Lee) and one not (Elias Kachunga). If they can keep up there form they could make the playoffs at the end of the season

Player for us to sign ASAP

Last night I watched Wealdstone play Solihull. Dreadful game really. BUT BUT

Finally Adam Virgo got something right. The best player on the pitch by a million miles was Wealdstone centre back Nikola Tavares.

He is 22, was at Palace, had several trials elsewhere, a few games at Brentford, but he is clearly a player who should have made the EFL somewhere and hasn't.

He's good on the ball, reads the game, appears calm. He was capped age age group levels by Croatia. Not a bad footballing nation. His parentage Croatian / Portuguese and he was brought up in South Africa. He isn't huge. Looks about a 6 footer. When Solihull brought on Hudlin (6' 9") everyone on the pitch appeared to have shrunk.

Hollis is a long-term injury. We always concede in the last few minutes. A calm young head cannot go amiss. Wealdstone are not wealthy. EFL clubs can't buy him till January. We could. If we don't and he keeps playing like that he won't finish the season at Wealdstone. Looks an investment to me, we wouldn't lose on him.

FA CUP 4th Qualifying Round: A Curzon Ashton
Posted by: spireitematt - 04-10-2021, 20:28 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (5)

We've been drawn away to Curzon Ashton in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. Should be an interesting game as Curzon are 3rd in National League North and have P7 W5 D1 L1. Former Spireite Jack McKay plays up front for them and has scored 3 goals in 8 appearances.

The Pandora Papers revealed - anybody susprised???
Posted by: 0762 - 04-10-2021, 18:14 - Forum: Abstract Chat - Replies (4)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-58780561

Remember the previous Panama Papers and the likes of David Cameron's father exposed as one of the offshore tax avoiders. Now we have the Pandora Papers and we discover that plebs like us must legally pay our taxes, but tax-avoiding morons like Rees-Mogg and lots of other "avoiders" are above this nonsense of paying one's tax dues and it is perfectly legal to do it. Maybe we should all do it and see what effect it has on the country we live in and try to improve it with the appropriate tax intake. I could go on, but this huge revelation hasn't surprised me at all as I've been "well read" in this two tier version of tax payers and tax avoiders for a very long time. A case of "nothing to see or say" - move on, no law-breaking evident!! Thumb down

Scotland v Israel, Sat 9 October
Posted by: 0762 - 04-10-2021, 17:41 - Forum: The World Cup - Replies (15)

This is one of the most important World Cup fixtures Scotland will be taking on in such a long time of continued failure. The scene is set for a major confrontation v Israel in front of a sold-out Hampden crowd that will be hoping Scotland have finally "turned the corner" v Austria to give us a reasonable chance to qualify for the Quatar World Cup next year. Here's hoping Steve Clarke chooses the best team to take on a "stuffy" Israel side that normally plays out a tight match against us - the past stats v them don't lie!! Lets play our best in form strikers and attacking mid players as well as ensuring we "keep the back door shut". C'mon Scotland - history beckons!!
