Bayer Leverkusen 3 Celtic 2 - the Hoops still defensively frail!
Posted by: 0762 - 25-11-2021, 22:08 - Forum: Celtic - No Replies

One thing about Celtic's Europa League encounters this season is the fact they are certainly dramatic matches. This one was no exception with a high entertainment factor attached to it. Celtic leading 1-2 after going down 1-0 early in the match and, with about 10 mins remaining, losing 3-2 v a Bundesligue team not "firing on all cylinders". Celtic's defence ultimately not solid enough to withstand higher quality attacking opponents/group leaders and the Hoops drop down to the last 32 teams in the Europa Conference.

WBA vs Forest - Match Thread

There's nothing like a promotion-calibre winning streak to make the autumn fly by, and sure enough, what we're on is nothing like a promotion-calibre winning streak. One victory in five isn't even playoff form, and the increasingly lacklustre performances would make watching the grass grow a preferable alternative, if the grass hadn't already nodded off itself. Something needs to change soon, and the earliest opportunity comes on Friday night as we welcome Nottingham Forest to the Hawthorns.

History doesn't bode all that well as we're now twenty years without a home win against the East Midlanders, going back to November 2001. Nevertheless, Forest are on a similarly indifferent run of form, having become draw specialists in recent weeks. Though hard to beat, somehow Albion have to dig deep and find something new before we head into winter.

THE MATCH

LAST MATCH

We made it 2 wins in a row as we came from behind to win. We had some chances, mainly from set pieces but managed to miss the net or there goalie saved it, while they had a few chances of there own but just like us couldn't put the ball in the net. Onto the 2nd half and the Dons took the lead, a cracking finish by Twine from nearly 30 yards, although the marking was lax. We pressed forward but despite having a number of chances we couldn't finish. Then finally we levelled when Gregory flicked in a Windass corner. Into stoppage time and we grabbed the winner, Windass finishing well after a mishit.

THE MATCH

Next up at Hillsborough Wycombe. Fond memories of Wycombe after winning promotion when beating them back in 2012. Wycombe are having an excellent season and are currently 2nd in the table after winning 0-3 at Plymouth on Tuesday, I expect them to be thereabouts come the end of the season. Sam Vokes is there leading scorer with 6 goals. They are managed by Gareth Ainsworth, who played for the club before coming manager in 2012 taking them from League 2 to the Championship.

St Johnstone v Hibs, Sat 27 November, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 25-11-2021, 13:58 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (5)

Well the pressure is increasing on Hibs to attain a positive league result after a hugely disappointing defeat v a bottom of the league side that really should've been dispatched by Hibs last night. Looks like Hibs will be without Boyly, our only goal scorer in recent times (are you listening Kevin Nisbet?????) although I'd say an appeal must be on the cards to challenge a vindictive referee who was not on my current list of dodgy Scottish refs of which there are already too many to name - a ridiculous situ in a footie league that wants to be a reputable one. Doidgy also out although again I'd suggest an appeal is in order - prob a lesser chance of success all the same! Anyway, I think JR will have to consider "matching up" to Calum Davidson's formation and tactics - play out a tight game of attrition esp with Nisbet not finding any kinda striking form. Nisbet's current positivity centres on his contribution as an inside forward feeding a more direct and effective forward alongside him. We need a goal/goals to win this match - not looking very likely! Bring in Scott Allan? Is Gullan good enough to even consider as an up front CF? Or elevate young O'Connor up to a first team debut in a CF position? Lotsa decisions for JR to ponder as he must "break" this losing streak asap. C'mon Hibs!

Just seen on newsnow west Brom page ....... Up for auction this weekend until the 28th Nov. A rare piece of Albion memorabilia ..... A piece that will never be repeated in current circumstances, an English top flight league winners medal.

one of less than twenty minted, A nine carrot gold 1919-1920 Football league winners medal awarded to Joe Smith, Albion right back, only missed two games, only 18 players used. The one and only time we have been champions of England.

A few hundred thousand should guarantee success, please send bank transfer to Swiss bank account No. 786567 3320799 Whistle Whistle Whistle Whistle

Seriously though, what a great and unique gift for any baggie. No estimate shown in the article, what value can you put on it.

Prediction League Results - Week 12
Posted by: St Charles Owl - 24-11-2021, 06:30 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (4)

Premier League

BaggieOne  18pts 2CS 5CR 5GB 3BB 0SB
Derby          16pts 1CS 5CR 5GB 3BB 0SB
AAA            11pts 0CS 5CR 0GB 3BB 0SB
BBB            10pts 0CS 3CR 5GB 3BB 0SB
SCO              9pts 1CS 4CR -3GB 3BB 1SB
Minizin          5pts 0CS 4CR 0GB -3BB 0SB
Sanjay          -2pts 0CS 2CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Snooty          -3pts 0CS 1CR -3GB -3BB 1SB
Silver            -4pts No submission

A good spread of scores this week which should lead to some changes in the overall league placings.

A very unusual sight at the top of this week's table - yes, you read it right, it's BaggieOne with his best performance since week 2 and only his 3rd double figure score - could this be the start of a charge? B1 was the only player to get more than 1 correct score and also scored on both his gamball and bonus, though he remains by some distance the worst bonus ball player this season. He is closely followed in 2nd place by Derby who will consolidate his place at the head of the table following another week of positive bonus and gamballs.

Our alphabet players take the next 3 slots. AAA joined the top 2 with 5 correct result predictions but failed to find a correct score. He was one of 2 players not to play the gamball and in his case this proved a wise decision. BBB lies 4th just a point further back - just 3 correct predictions but they included the gamball and bonus to rescue what could have been a bad week. SCO lost out on the gamball but was 1 of only 3 players to get a correct score.

Minizin's season seems to be fading with another extremely average score. He could have added 3 extra points had he chosen to play the gamball but has to be content with just 5 points from 4 correct predictions and no correct scores.

Not such good week's for our remaining players. Sanjay had just 2 correct predictions and failures with all his balls for a total of minus 2 points. Still, that was better than Snooty - just 1 correct prediction giving him his first negative score of the season - at least he got a score ball point!

No predictions from Silver - I hope there's nothing wrong - so he props up the table with minus 4.

Derby 152
BBB 132
SCO 127
Minizin 123
Silver 121
Snooty 118
Sanjay 94
BaggieOne 82
AAA 52

Derby's lead extends to 20 points after another good week. Behind him the pack reshuffles with BBB climbing one place to 2nd, SCO 2 places to 3rd and Minizin 1 place to 4th. These changes are more to do with Silver's absence as his no-show drops him from 2nd to 5th with Snooty also suffering a 2 place drop. No changes in order below that though BaggieOne's good week and Sanjay's poor one has tightened the battle to avoid the drop.

Zin

Championship

Lady Jane 24pts 3CS 4CR 10GB -3BB 1SB
Salop 13pts 0CS 4CR 5GB 3BB 1SB
Stairs 13pts 2CS 2CR NPGB 3BB 0SB
Amelia 12pts 1CS 5CR -3GB 3BB 0SB
Dingle 12pts 1CS 4CR 5GB -3BB 0SB
Blue Baggie 6pts 2CS 2CR -3GB -3BB 0SB
Themaclad 6pts 0CS 4CR -3GB 3BB 0SB
Zinman 6pts 1CS 2CR NPGB -3BB 1SB
Twerton 0pts 0CS 3CR -3GB -3BB 0SB

Decent scoring for most this week but one player stood head and shoulders above the rest. Lady Jane finished top with 24 points, her best score of the season so far. She was the only one to get a spot on Gamball ad backed that up by scoring points on 6 other games as well. Salop and Stairs were joint in 2nd spot with 13 points. Salop played his Gamball and picked up a CR as he also did on the Bonus. Stairs got 2 CSs and a CR on the Bonus.

Amelia is 4th with 12 points, joint with Dingle although they got there in very different ways. Amelia missed on the Gamball, Dingle picked up a CR, but on the Bonus this was reversed with Amelia getting the CR.

Joint 6th were three players with 6 points - our leader Blue Baggie, Themaclad and Zinman. Blue got 2 CSs but missed on all his balls, Themaclad got no CSs to keep his score down and Zinman scored on the fewest games but wisely didn't play the Gamball. Bottom of the pile again is Twerton, his poor form continues and this week he didn't bother the scorer by getting a big fat zero points.

160 - Blue Baggie
142 - Stairs
127 - Lady Jane
117 - Dingle
116 - Zinman
111 - Salop
85 - Themaclad
84 - Amelia
71 - Twerton

Blue and Stairs stay one and two but Lady Jane's excellent week sees her climb 2 spots and open a 10 point gap in the process on Dingle. Zinman has dropped 2 places to 5th, with Salop just behind him. I think we will see a lot of positional changes in this 3rd to 6th place as the season goes on. Big gap down to Themaclad and Amelia and a worrying gap has now left Twerton firmly rooted to the bottom.

Cheers
SCO
