  Dundee United 0 Celtic 9 - a record thrashing!!
Posted by: 0762 - 28-08-2022, 20:38 - Forum: Celtic - Replies (2)

Celtic outstanding today and their display compared with their last match v Hertz literally "night and day"!! Two "hat tricks" scored, one by Kyogo and another one for Abada. Dundee United sadly lacking confidence and in a bad way ever since their brief Euro venture v AZ Alkmaar - another Scot Prem club, one of many, exposed by better Euro opponents and paying the price in their own domestic league!! Celtic taking full advantage, but one must emphasise again they were outstanding. The future of United's manager, Jack Ross (the plan A man!)? Definitely in question after only a short period in charge. I must say I thought Ross was a "good fit" for United - proved wrong and he never visualised this implosion in confidence, commitment and structure of the team he took over - found wanting and couldn't "shore up" the holes in his team with proper organisation and reassurance to his players although one must comment that his players have a lot to answer for this collapse in the space of three weeks. I'll be surprised if Ross remains in situ esp after record defeats, 7-0 and 0-9, in such a short period. They are in freefall and he looks incapable of stopping it! Note 0-9 is an equal record score-line in the history of the Scot Prem, but not a great advert for the game up here TBF!!

That was some game. Goal in the first minute and we absolutely dominated. Barnet were no mugs and looked good on the ball but we were just in a different class.
Covalan was back in nets and made a couple of vital stops. He gives me kittens though with some of his positioning. They tried to lob him a couple of times but he got away with it. A sign of things to come though, at one of their corners, a Barnet player literally ran from the edge of the area and shoved him to the floor to wind him up.

We had a 10-15 . minute spell in the second half that was just superb. We were unplayable and if hadn't been for their keeper we could have had 5 or 6.

Great to see Kaby back on the score sheet and boy did he take it well.
3 great goals and 7000 happy Spireites. Just what you need to start the weekend. Roll on Monday.

Huddersfield & Wigan vs WBA - Match Thread

Last week's four points against in-form opposition were, if not an assurance of great things to come, then at least a step in the right direction. With Yokuslu on the pitch we have a firmer defence, and while it may not rain goals every weekend, the five that sailed past Hull were a comforting reminder that our players still know where the net is. The question now is whether we can carry the momentum onto the road, with back-to-back away trips to Huddersfield and Wigan.

It would appear to have been an unhappy start for the Terriers, with just one win from their four games, though relegated Burnley and Norwich figured amongst their opponents so far. Their recent record against Albion is, of course, exemplary; defeated only once in seven league encounters since the beginning of 2001, their last three home matches against us have all seen the points remain resolutely in Yorkshire. A 3-1 win against Stoke a fortnight ago, with goals from Yuta Nakayama, Danny Ward and Jordan Rhodes, is probably a decent indicator of how Huddersfield can perform on home soil against mid-table opposition, which - for the time being, at least - is what Albion are. But as the Baggies are fighting hard for turnovers high up the pitch during our best spells of play, with the most of any team in the Championship at present, we'll hopefully give a positive showing on Saturday and look to give as good as we get.

Newly-promoted Wigan are more of an enigma, unbeaten in their four games so far, but with only one victory leaving them a place below us in the table. Everton loanee Nathan Broadhead was the super-sub who supplied the Latics (down to ten men for eighty minutes) with their goal and three points at St Andrews last Saturday, though Josh Magennis is preferred as striker in the starting XI, supported by Will Keane and a certain James McClean. It's been almost a decade now since Albion last won at the DW Stadium in November 2012, and manager Leam Richardson seems like a man who isn't held back by minor difficulties (such as his apparent inability to spell the name "Liam" correctly), so I wouldn't be too surprised if the Latics give us yet another tough battle. Two points would be an acceptable week, but if we have any ambition of rising to the table's more fecund extremity, three or even four are what we need to get us in the hunt.

Saint Mirren v Hibs, Sat 27 August, KO 3.00pm

https://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/article/pr...mirren-a-2

Well this is another away match after a second positive last min home draw (v Rangers) and I must say I honestly don't know how Hibs will fare v the Buddies. We've only won one Scot Prem match (a last min victory v St Johnstone) so far and Saint Mirren look like they have finally settled and are registering some decent results. The match is thankfully on a grass pitch and lets hope the guys "show up" to pick up a well earned 3 pts. Of course, that can only happen if somebody "steps up to the plate" to score goals. Boyly will be the likely candidate to "pull the trigger" in front of the Buddies' goal. Any Hibs player will be welcome to do the biz . Lets play well, score goals and the players pick up a well deserved win bonus. C'mon Hibs!

Stoke City have sacked manager Michael O'Neill after a poor start to the Championship season, having won just once in five games.

The 53-year-old was appointed by the Potters in November 2019, replacing Nathan Jones.

The former Northern Ireland boss is the first manager to be sacked in the Championship this campaign.

Assistant manager Dean Holden will take charge on an interim basis with Stoke visiting Blackburn on Saturday.

In a statement, chairman John Coates said: "Michael joined us in November 2019 when the club was in a difficult situation and the job he did in stabilising our position in the Championship should not be underestimated.

"Michael has worked tirelessly and with extreme professionalism, in particular in reshaping our squad and developing young players, but we feel the time is right to move in a different direction. I would like to thank him for his efforts and wish him every success for the future."

Stoke were bottom of the Championship, having won only two of their opening 15 games, when O'Neill arrived but they finished 15th during a pandemic-interrupted 2019-20 season.

In his first two full seasons with the club, O'Neill guided them to consecutive 14th-placed finishes in the second tier.

Despite the signings of Dwight Gayle and highly rated Manchester City youngster Liam Delap, they have only beaten Blackpool this season.

They lost their last league game against Sunderland, leaving them 21st in the table, and were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Morecambe on penalties in the first round.

O'Neill is the second manager to be sacked in the English Football League this season, after Robbie Stockdale left League Two Rochdale on 18 August.

FORM GUIDE

MANAGER

Coaching career
Morison earned his first coaching badge at Protec Football Academy during his playing career.[4] He subsequently earned his UEFA Pro Licence and, after retiring as a player in October 2019, began coaching at the academies of former clubs Northampton Town and Millwall.[100][110]

Cardiff City
Morison was appointed as the lead coach of the Cardiff City under-23 team on 10 February 2020, joining up with Cardiff manager Neil Harris, who he played alongside and was managed by at Millwall.[110] Following the sacking of Mick McCarthy in October 2021, Morison was placed in temporary charge of the first-team.[111] His first match as caretaker manager was a 3–3 draw away at Stoke City with the team having been 3–0 down with 25 minutes remaining, this result ending Cardiff's club-record run of eight defeats in a row.[112] In Morison's third match in caretaker charge, Cardiff earned their first win in 10 matches with a 2–1 victory against Huddersfield Town on 6 November 2021.[113] He was appointed first-team manager on a contract until the end of the 2021–22 season on 12 November 2021, with club owner Vincent Tan stating that he had been impressed by the more attacking brand of football played during Morison's three matches as caretaker manager.[114] On 2 March 2022, Morison signed a contract extension until the summer of 2023 after leading the team to be sixteen points clear of the relegation zone and impressing the board of directors with a progress and clearly identifiable playing style.[115] This new contract was rewarded with three victories and a draw across March leading to Morison being awarded the EFL Championship Manager of the Month award.[116]

Cardiff places

Cardiff Castle (Welsh: Castell Caerdydd) is a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion located in the city centre of Cardiff, Wales. The original motte and bailey castle was built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of a 3rd-century Roman fort. The castle was commissioned either by William the Conqueror or by Robert Fitzhamon, and formed the heart of the medieval town of Cardiff and the Marcher Lord territory of Glamorgan. In the 12th century the castle began to be rebuilt in stone, probably by Robert of Gloucester, with a shell keep and substantial defensive walls being erected. Further work was conducted by the 6th Earl of Gloucester in the second half of the 13th century. Cardiff Castle was repeatedly involved in the conflicts between the Anglo-Normans and the Welsh, being attacked several times in the 12th century, and stormed in 1404 during the revolt of Owain Glyndŵr.

After being held by the de Clare and Despenser families for several centuries, the castle was acquired by The 13th Earl of Warwick and Comte de Aumale in 1423. Lord Warwick conducted extensive work on the castle, founding the main range on the west side of the castle, dominated by a tall octagonal tower. Following the Wars of the Roses, the status of the castle as a Marcher territory was revoked and its military significance began to decline. The Herbert family took over the property in 1550, remodelling parts of the main range and carrying out construction work in the outer bailey, then occupied by Cardiff's Shire Hall and other buildings. During the English Civil War Cardiff Castle was initially taken by a Parliamentary force, but was regained by Royalist supporters in 1645. When fighting broke out again in 1648, a Royalist army attacked Cardiff in a bid to regain the castle, leading to the Battle of St Fagans just outside the city. Cardiff Castle escaped potential destruction by Parliament after the war and was instead garrisoned, probably to protect against a possible Scottish invasion.

In the mid-18th century, Cardiff Castle passed into the hands of the Stuart dynasty, Marquesses of Bute. John, 1st Marquess of Bute, employed Capability Brown and Henry Holland to renovate the main range, turning it into a Georgian mansion, and to landscape the castle grounds, demolishing many of the older medieval buildings and walls. During the first half of the 19th century the family became extremely wealthy as a result of the growth of the coal industry in Glamorgan. However, it was the 3rd Marquess of Bute who truly transformed the castle, using his vast wealth to back an extensive programme of renovations under William Burges. Burges remodelled the castle in a Gothic revival style, lavishing money and attention on the main range. The resulting interior designs are considered to be amongst "the most magnificent that the gothic revival ever achieved".[5] The grounds were re-landscaped and, following the discovery of the old Roman remains, reconstructed walls and a gatehouse in a Roman style were incorporated into the castle design. Extensive landscaped parks were built around the outside of the castle.

In the early 20th century, the 4th Marquess of Bute inherited the castle and construction work continued into the 1920s. The Bute lands and commercial interests around Cardiff were sold off or nationalised until, by the time of the Second World War, little was left except the castle. During the war, extensive air raid shelters were built in the castle walls; they could hold up to 1,800 people. When the 4th Marquess died in 1947, the castle was given to the City of Cardiff. Today the castle is run as a tourist attraction, with the grounds housing the "Firing Line" regimental museum and interpretation centre. The castle has also served as a venue for events, including musical performances and festivals.

LAST MATCH

We bounced back from the Peterborough defeat with a good win at Bolton. Bolton had a few chances before we took the lead when there defender hit a terrible back pass which was put back into play by there goalie, we recovered the ball and Bannan squared for Byers to slide home. It was 0-2 a few mins later when Windass fed PALMER who fired for a very rare goal. Onto the second half and Windass some how missed from close range and Bakinson also failed on a one on one. We saw the game game out fairly comfortably and moved up to fourth position.

THE MATCH

Next up and a team we have never played before as Forest Green Rovers make the trip to Hillsborough. They have only been a league club for 5 years, but have achieved a promotion already. Ian Burchnall is there manager, appointed after there old manager left to take charge of Watford. They will be looking to stay up this season after promotion last season, where they won the League 2  title. They do have a former player of ours, Connor Wickham, in there squad and has managed a goal so far this season. The United Nations has recognised Forest Green Rovers as the world’s first carbon-neutral football club and it was described by FIFA as the “greenest team in the world".

  Harry gets a ban
Posted by: themaclad - 24-08-2022, 15:52 - Forum: Swindon Town - No Replies

Swindon Town striker Harry McKirdy has been given a three-match ban by the FA for aggressive behaviour and improper conduct.

The 25-year-old was sent off in the 0-0 draw with Salford City following a second yellow card.

Sky Sports News reported he then went into referee Andy Woolmer's room inside the stadium and threw a drink, which spilled on to the official's clothing.

McKirdy admitted the charge and has been fined £1,500.

He has already served a one-match ban for his dismissal and has scored twice in League Two since returning to action. Last season he was the club's top scorer with 23 goals.

He was shown the red card in the 43rd minute for a challenge on Salford's Ryan Watson, having been booked for complaining to the referee in the 14th minute. McKirdy was also aggrieved at not being awarded a penalty kick.

The forward will be unavailable for Swindon's next three league matches against Stockport County, Gillingham and Newport County.
