HTAFC Prediction League 2022/23 Matchday 31
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 14-03-2023, 20:06 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (12)

2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

The prize for winning the league is one rep point.

Cup games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. Similarly with the badger, if your random prediction is affected by this, it'll be half the points.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

End of season Play Offs: The one who finishes top of the league will still be champion, but after the season finishes there will be Play Offs between the top 4, with 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. This will take in stuff like the EFL Play Offs, FA Cup Final, final day of Prima Donna League, European Finals etc. It will be one matchday for the semis and one for the Final. It will be the individual scores for each matchday against the allotted opponent, with some kind of tie breaker for a drawn match.

The prize for winning will be enormous. Another rep point. Whistle

We conclude March's fixture list on Wednesday by kicking off for the last time this season under a night sky, our next evening games being on the far (and hopefully sunlit) side of Easter. Cardiff is the destination, and having seen off two of the bottom four sides in the last week - if not in swashbuckling fashion - we have the opportunity to make it three under the lights in South Wales, injuries and grotesque away form permitting.

It's our first visit since the 4-0 drubbing we dished out to them under Ismael in autumn 2021; the fateful high point of his tenure, after which everything went so badly wrong. Another victory tomorrow would secure our first back-to-back wins in the Welsh capital since Joe Mayo and Barry Donaghy brought home the points in front of a crowd of 6,000 at Ninian Park in October 1974 (Bomber having been the difference between the sides a year earlier). But ominously, much like Hull, Cardiff have earned breathing space thanks to building two consecutive home wins on two consecutive clean sheets in the last month, while Albion's dismal travelling record now stands at four defeats on the trot, and at least two goals conceded in each.

Concede first on Wednesday, and I think another long and thankless night will be on the cards. But if the playoffs are to stay in our sights, we have to find a way of turning the away curse around this week, in time for the run-in.

Burnley have been put under a transfer embargo by the English Football League after submitting their accounts late.

In a statement, the Championship leaders said draft accounts and financial information had been given to the EFL's financial reporting unit and the delay was down to a change in auditors taking longer than expected.

The club believe the EFL will have "no issue" with the accounts.

They also said they were confident the issue would be "resolved swiftly".

Under the league's jurisdiction, clubs can be penalised with embargoes for failing to fulfil requirements of the Financial Fair Play system.

"We continue to have regular dialogue with the [financial] unit to ensure we remain as open and as transparent and answer any questions the league may have," Burnley's statement continued.

"We believe the EFL will have no issue with the detail of our accounts other than their late submission and fully understand and support their position and efforts to sanction any club who fails to comply with any of their regulations.

"Both the club and our new auditors are confident this can be resolved swiftly and we hope our submission will be made next month at which point the embargo will be lifted."

Vincent Kompany's side are top of the Championship with 80 points from 36 games, a lead of 17 points over Middlesbrough in third.

The BBC has contacted the EFL for comment.

Posted by: themaclad - 12-03-2023, 10:32 - Forum: Oxford United - No Replies

Oxford United have appointed former Milton Keynes Dons boss Liam Manning as their new head coach.

The 37-year-old takes over from Karl Robinson, who was sacked last month following an eight-game winless run.

The U's have picked up one point since beating Ipswich on 21 January leaving them three points above the League One relegation zone in 18th place.

Manning led the Dons to a third-placed finish in League One in his first season at Stadium MK.

The club lost to Wycombe Wanderers in the 2022 play-off semi-finals but were 23rd in League One after a run of one of 11 league games when Manning was sacked by the Dons last December.

Listen to BBC Radio Oxford's Wasn't at the Game podcast
Chairman Grant Ferguson told the club website: "Liam has a fantastic reputation as a coach and for helping to develop young players.

"His sides play with a sense of identity and purpose and play attacking football and that is something that Oxford United have always tried to do.

"We had an outstanding list of candidates and as promised we went through a rigorous recruitment process but Liam was our unanimous choice."

Oxford, who have not disclosed the length of Manning's contract, said he would take up the role on Monday, with Craig Short taking charge for Saturday's home game with Derby County.

Short will remain as part of Manning's coaching staff, as well as Leon Blackmore-Such and Wayne Brown, while Chris Hogg will join the U's as assistant manager.

"I thank the board for showing faith in me and I want to repay that, first of all by ensuring the team pull away from any immediate danger and then by being part of a very exciting period in the club's history," said Manning.

"Oxford has amazing fans home and away, there are big plans for the future of the club and I can't wait to get started."

Analysis: Manning must 'arrest alarming slide'
Jerome Sale, BBC Radio Oxford sports editor

High risk. High reward. I have heard those four words spoken about Liam Manning a lot since it became apparent he would be getting the Oxford job.

Many say it sums up the style of football he insisted on while he was MK Dons manager, but it is also said of the appointment itself.

Despite pressure to act swiftly, Oxford have been determined to run a thorough recruitment process since sacking Karl Robinson and Manning has swept the competition aside.

The club will be hoping that in a year's time he is leading them towards their goal of reaching the Championship, but in the here and now Manning has to quickly arrest an alarming slide - the momentum of which is taking Oxford in quite the opposite direction.

Scot Cup: Hertz 0 Celtic 3 - the treble is well n truly on!!
Posted by: 0762 - 11-03-2023, 16:51 - Forum: Celtic - Replies (1)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/64857964

Celtic not at their best, but clinical enough to put Hertz "back in their box" after the past two fixtures that seen them conceding six goals while scoring only one in reply. Preceding this match, Neilson professing the home crowd could play a big part in winning this cup tie for Hertz? One can only assume he had to say something positive while conceding that fans located in stadia don't actually kick any football to win any match - the word "desperation" comes to mind and the end result was never in any doubt. Celtic started the game well and vg in the first half. Second half, not so good, but kept the game secure until Carter-Vickers finally finished them off with a fine headed goal. So Celtic progress fairly comfortably to the Scot Cup semi-finals again on their quest to attain another domestic treble.

  Strevens above now history
Posted by: themaclad - 10-03-2023, 16:11 - Forum: Dagenham & Redbridge - Replies (1)

Dagenham & Redbridge have appointed Ben Strevens as their new manager.

The former striker, 42, won promotion to the Football League in 2006-07 as a player with the Daggers, for whom he scored 35 goals in 125 appearances.

The National League club parted company with Daryl McMahon on 24 February, after two wins in nine games.

"It was immediately clear [Ben] has the right mix of passion and skillset," executive chairman Peter Freund told the club website.

The Daggers, who entertain Oldham Athletic on 18 March, are 11th in the National League, six points outside the play-offs.

"After a thorough search conducted over the past two weeks, I am delighted that one of our own has come back to coach the club," Freund added.

Edgware-born Strevens took over as manager of Eastleigh, who currently occupy the final National League play-off spot, in October 2018.

The former Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers player won 61 of 154 games with Eastleigh but departed in January 2021 after a run of three consecutive defeats.

MANAGER

Sabri Lamouchi (born 9 November 1971) is a French football manager and former professional footballmidfielder. He is currently manager of EFL Championship club Cardiff City.

In The Dressing Room

Andrew Hughes is back in training after missing the previous three matches through injury, and his fitness will be monitored prior to Saturday.

Aside from the long-term absentees, Ali McCann and Emil Riis, there are no fresh injury concerns to worry about heading into the weekend.

Daniel Johnson is set to play his 327th game in a Preston North End shirt, which will see him go joint-22nd in the club's all-time appearance list.

A Look At Our Visitors

Cardiff City are in their fourth consecutive Championship season, following relegation from the Premier League in the 2018/19 season.

Arriving at Deepdale with just six points separating them from a place in the relegation zone, Sabri Lamouchi’s side have no doubt taken confidence from their 2-0 Severnside derby victory over Bristol City last Saturday.

Despite the bragging rights and the all-important three points, they lost their starting ‘keeper Ryan Allsop due to a straight red card, meaning the Bluebirds will require Jak Alnwick’s help at Deepdale.

Going Head To Head

Games played: 100
PNE wins: 36
Draws: 25
Cardiff City wins: 39
Last victory: Cardiff City 0-1 PNE, 29th December 2017

One To Watch

Jaden Philogene has been a young talent proving his worth through Cardiff City’s tough season, since joining on loan from Premier League side Aston Villa in the summer.

The England youth international has already netted four goals in all competitions, with his most recent strike coming last weekend to clinch a 2-0 Championship victory over rivals Bristol City.

A 21-year-old winger, who can also operate in the midfield on either flank, Philogene possesses the turn of pace and chance creation which can keep any defence on their toes.

Match Officials

David Webb is the referee in charge of Saturday afternoon’s game, having overseen both sides on one previous occasion this season.

Webb gave five yellow cards and a penalty to the hosts when PNE beat Reading 2-1 away from home in November, while his Cardiff City game ended in a 1-0 victory to Hull City, despite the Bluebirds missing a crucial penalty.

In total this season, he has taken charge of 30 matches, showing 90 yellow cards and three reds.

MACS VIEW

As we head towards mid table mediocrity we welcome a Cardiff side just above the drop zone if all go well we shall donate points to them to ensure Blackpool take their rightful place in next season's Papa John's trophy.
They won last week will be interesting to see if they change their style of play under the new manager although won't see it until next season.
We are unbeaten in five although 4 were draws, two more games both away next week then the International Break probably be a draw.
