A fairly straightforward win barring a dodgy last 15 minutes. We took the lead when Bannan picked up a saved long distance shot and chipped one into the far corner. A few mins later it was two after a handball in the box and Smith dispatched the spot kick. Two up at the break and we quickly made it 3, Wilks with a cracking finish from 20+ yards. It was 4 when FDB finished from the edge of the box with a controlled finish. Ex Owl Winnall headed in Burton's first, after a foul Gregory smashed the bar from the spot before Burton got there second with another header, There were a few nervous moments but we took the 3 points

Next up and a long trip to the south coast to face Southampton in the Carabao Cup. The Saints sacked there manager this morning Hasenhuttl so we will be facing Ruben Selles who is the caretake manager when we kick off v The Saints. They haven't had the best of seasons and currently lie in the relegation zone. Ward-Prowse is there best player and may be headed off to the world cup but as he is a creative player & set piece specialist he probably wont get a look in. Ex Blade Che Adams is there leading scorer with 5.

Hibs return to ER Stadium after another away "skelping" by a Dons team that isnae that good. One can just hope and pray that this team can win this kinda home match v opponents who are not as good as Hibs. However, a team without Boyly, and without the battling qualities to combat aggressive home sides like AFC, tells us that we are prob looking at a "nail-biting" affair from a Hibs side that is also not being managed very well at all. We need to win this match and accumulate points to "stay in the mix" for that 3rd placed position for as long as possible. We must do what the Dons are doing and win our home games at all cost - try to avoid a freefall situation, a downward-spiral needs to be avoided and certain players in our team really have to take the responsibility to lead and encourage others to perform. C'mon Hibs! Perform properly, create and score the requisite goals! Hopefully VAR will not hinder our progress unlike what we've been seeing for weeks where wrong VAR decisions at various Scot footie grounds are definitely deciding the outcome of too many footie matches - an absolute disgrace!!

Huddersfield travel to the capital this week to face QPR down on South Africa Road. In a game that was rearranged due to the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Our hosts have had a good start to the season and currently sit 5th in the early stages. Now under new management after Mark Warburton was relieved of his duties at the end of last season, former Steven Gerrard assistant manager Michael Beale was appointed as the Hoops looked to have something of a path change. Warburton spent three seasons in charge of the club but failed to get them back to the Premier League, in part due to off field financial restraints from the last time they were there, instead they became a solid Championship side finishing 11th last season, 9th the year before and 13th the season before that. Warburton has been mentioned as an option to replace Schofield, but he was appointed as first team coach at West Ham over the summer, replacing the departing Stuart Pearce. The Hoops under Beale began the season away at Blackburn who also had a new manager at the helm and it was Blackburn and Jon Dahl Tomasson who came out on top with Lewis Travis scoring the only goal. Their first home game saw them welcome Middlesbrough to Loftus Road. QPR raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from former Town loanee Chris Willock, James Dunne and Lyndon Dykes. Town academy graduate Matt Crooks scored just before half time and Marcus Forss scored a second for Boro with 30 minutes to play, Rangers hung on as Middlesbrough saw Darragh Lenihan sent off in injury time. They were then knocked out of the League Cup on penalties by League one Charlton. A trip to the North East to play Sunderland was next on the cards and the Black Cats took a 2 goal lead through Ross Stewart and a summer target for Town, Ellis Simms. A late comeback spoilt the day for Sunderland as Ilias Chair scored with a few minutes to play, before goalkeeper Seny Dieng scored from a corner in injury time, yes QPR's keeper has scored more this season than Duane Holmes, Sorba Thomas and Jack Rudoni combined (I wrote this bit at the time of the original fixture and it still stands two months later). Josh Bowler scored the only goal of the game for Blackpool as they won their first game in 50 years at Loftus Road before QPR welcomed Rotherham to London. The game finished 1-1 with Chiedozie Ogbene opening the scoring for the Millers before Chris Willock equalised just before half time. The Hoops finished August off with two wins, the first on the road away at Watford, with the visitors coming out 3-2 winners in an end to end game. Chair opened the scoring in the 17th minute for the Hoops, before Ken Sema equalised for the Hornets, Willock found himself on the scoresheet once again in the 34th minute, before Joao Pedro equalised just after half time, Uncle Albert Adomah scored what proved to be the winner for QPR in the 70th minute. The second win came at home to the Turkish Tigers of Hull. Willock and Chair once again on the score sheet with an Ethan Laird goal sandwiched in between, Tyler Smith scored a consolation goal for Hull in the latter stages of the game. September saw Rangers travel to Wales to face Swansea and they left empty handed thanks to a Joel Piroe goal just after the 20 minute mark, the striker had missed a penalty not long before either. After a trip to Wales they was back in the capital to face Millwall at the Den. Second half goals from Willock and Johansen propelled the Hoops to a 2-0 win. They finished the month off with a 0-0 draw at home to Stoke.



October was a busy month for Rangers and it began with a trip to Bristol to face Nigel Pearson's Robins'. Two first half goals from Johansen and Tyler Roberts saw them edge out the hosts 2-1, with for Town and Rangers hitman Nahki Wells getting the goal for City. Willock was back on the scoresheet as Rangers beat Sheffield United 1-0 in South Yorkshire on a Tuesday night, before heading back to home comforts for a Friday night game against fellow Hoops Reading. Dykes would bag a brace for the home side as they ran out 2-1 winners, with Andy Carroll bagging from the spot for the Royals. The next weekend would see them on an unhappy trip to Luton as they left on the receiving end of a 3-1 scoreline. Elijah Adebayo and Cameron Jerome put the Hatters 2-0 up before keeper Ethan Horvath scored an own goal in injury time to give Rangers something to grasp at, but a minute later Luke Freeman restored the 2 goal advantage. Rangers managed to return to winning ways next time out against Cardiff with a 3-0 win over former Town captain Mark Hudsons side. Cardiff defender Jack Simpson saw red in the 18th minute and conceded a penalty in the process which Dykes duly dispatched, the Antipodean Scot would double his tally midway in the first half before Kenneth Paal scored his first goal for the club. Next up was the visit of Wigan Athletic, who put Rangers under the pump for most of the game, but were unable to come away with anything as the host ran out 2-1 victors. Sam Field opened the scoring for Rangers before Nathan Broadhead equalised, but parity lasted a matter of minutes as Leon Balogun scored his first for the club. They finished the month with a trip to Birmingham. It didn't go as expected as the Brummie Blues ran out 2-0 winners with goals coming from Auston Trusty and West Ham wing-back Manny Longelo, whilst Dykes missed from the spot for Rangers.

Rangers haven't quite recovered from the shock defeat as they are yet to win in November, they played out a goalless draw in Norwich before losing at home to West Brom thanks to a goal from former Leeds man Kyle Bartley. Perfect time to play us then.



During the Summer window, they preferred to do their business in the loan and free market. They brought in Ethan Laird from Manchester United, Tyler Roberts from Leeds, Taylor Richards from Brighton and Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa, all on loan. Whilst they signed Leon Balogun from Rangers, Jake Clarke-Salter from Chelsea, Kenneth Paal from PEC Zwolle and Elijah Dixon-Bonner from Liverpool, all on free transfers. As for leaving Loftus Road, Charlie Kelman joined Leyton Orient on loan, Ody Alfa went to Aldershot on loan and a few other youngsters went into the lower leagues for their first tastes of adult football. Also leaving the club, Charlie Austin went to Brisbane Roar, Yoann Barbet went to Bordeaux, Moses Odubajo went to Aris, Dom Ball went to Kieran McKenna's Ipswich, David Marshall went to Hibernian, former Sheffield Wednesday keeper Kieran Westwood was released along with fellow keeper Dillon Barnes, whilst Lee Wallace retired. The club made a 900k sale when Jordy De Wijs left to join Dusseldorf in Germany.

Ones to watch

Well Chris Willock, remember him? is top scorer for Rangers this season with 6 goals, he's been missing the last few games but made his comeback at the weekend against West Brom, so you know what happens on Tuesday right? The former Arsenal man joined Town on loan from Benfica during the second half of the season under the Cowley regime. His loan had a clause to make it permanent but it wasn't activated as the club felt they could get him cheaper. In the process of doing so he elected to return to London and sign for QPR. Hey look, another we missed out on!



Another key piece of the QPR puzzle is the playmaker Ilias Chair, he is amongst the creators in chief for Rangers with 6 so far this season, with a further 3 goals to boot. The Moroccan international was born in Belgium originally but has made 10 appearances for the Atlas Lions and will almost certainly be going to Qatar for the world cup where he will face off against the country of his birth. The forward joined QPR from Belgian side Lierse back in 2017 and has made over 140 appearances for the side, whilst also having a spell out on loan at Stevenage.

The final key piece of the QPR puzzle is Lyndon Dykes. The Scottish international was born in Australia to Scottish parents. He would come on tour with an Australian schoolboys side to Dumfries where his father was from and ended up playing a few games for Queen of the South's under 20's side before going back down under. He would return a year later and sign for the Doonhammers, he would play there for three seasons before moving on to Livingston. After one season at the Lions he would move for a club record fee to QPR. He has scored 26 goals in 92 games for the Hoops and has 5 goals this term.




how to get there

By car it seems as if you just get on the M1 and travel south for just shy of 3 hours until you reach junction 1 before taking the North Circular Road (A406) until you turn off onto Brentfield road and keep following it into Shepherds Bush before turning onto South Africa road... I imagine you'd want to find somewhere to park before you get there or more likely you'd want to get on the train from Yorkshire down to London. If that is the case you'll be wanting the Central Line to either White City or Wood Lane if you were to be on the Circle line or Hammersmith and City Line. If you get there early enough you'll be able to see the BBC Studios or the ITV Studios. If you are travelling on the Central Line you would be able to stop off at Notting Hill or Queensway and see Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall and the National History Museum to name a few. The British Museum, Soho and Mayfair are also on the line, with Mayfair not being far from Buckingham Palace if you was wanting to pay your respects on the way to the football. Bank is also on the line which isn't far from the Tower of London or St Pauls Cathedral. But why pay all that money to watch Town?


In terms of head to heads, it is fairly even between the two sides, with Town winning 15 and QPR winning 14, there has also been 10 draws between the two sides. The sides first met back in 1932 where Town won a FA Cup tie 5-0 at Leeds Road, the first league meeting would come in 1967 also in West Yorkshire, where Town would emerge 1-0 victors in the old Division two clash. The two sides would meet in Division two for a while before a 23 year wait for a league fixture with the two sides being separated until a 1996 meeting at the McAlpine Stadium, which QPR would win 2-1. The sides would be constant oppositions for each other until 2003 where Town would sink into the bottom tier, the following years would see QPR make it to the Premier League whilst Town rebuilt and made their way back to the Championship where the two sides would meet once again after QPR fell from the Premier League, the first fixture back was a 1-1 draw with James Vaughan scoring for Town, with Junior Hoilett scoring for Rangers. The return fixture at Loftus Road finished 2-1 in favour of QPR with Charlie Austin scoring both of the Hoops' goals, with Nahki Wells on target for Town. The most recent fixtures between the two sides have been in favour of Town, with Town doing the double over Rangers in our promotion season, we drew down in London after our relegation, but managed to pull off a victory in what would be one of the last meetings before lockdown. Last season Town lost 1-0 through a late Luke Amos goal, whilst the return fixture was a 2-2 draw, a Yoann Barbet own goal inside the first six minutes put Town ahead before Luke Amos scored his second of the season against the Terriers. Harry Toffolo scored a diving header to put Town ahead, but not for long as Chair levelled things up and thats how it finished.



Team news

Towns list of injured and unavailable players keeps extending, with both David Kasumu and Etienne Camara both unavailable for Tuesdays game. Camara has picked up a hip injury, whilst Kasumu picked up his fifth booking of the season, they join Ollie Turton, Matty Pearson, Yuta Nakayama, Jonathan Hogg, Tom Lees, Tino Anjorin and Tyreece Simpson in the stands.



Based on that we could see a return for Jon Russell in the middle of the park with someone like Rudoni dropping deeper, a possible first league start for Brahima Diarra could be on the cards due to the lack of other options in the squad now. Connor Mahoney may also be a benefactor from the changes if Fotheringham was to elect to move Holmes further infield. Personally I would be looking at putting Ward into the hole behind Rhodes, they may not be good at playing up top together, but it worked when Narcis put Ward in a pressing attacking midfield role against Cardiff, so I would be inclined to try it again.

As for QPR, they are waiting on the fitness of midfielder Luke Amos after he was forced off with a tight hamstring in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion while Jake Clarke-Salter should be back fit. Stefan Johansen and Tyler Roberts will both be missing on Tuesday night too.

The random badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  
The joker   is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

The prize for winning the league is one rep point.

Cup games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. Similarly with the badger, if your random prediction is affected by this, it'll be half the points.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in.
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  

End of season Play Offs: The one who finishes top of the league will still be champion, but after the season finishes there will be Play Offs between the top 4, with 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. This will take in stuff like the EFL Play Offs, FA Cup Final, final day of Prima Donna League, European Finals etc. It will be one matchday for the semis and one for the Final. It will be the individual scores for each matchday against the allotted opponent, with some kind of tie breaker for a drawn match.

The prize for winning will be enormous. Another rep point.

A slow burner of a game which got better as it went along, Gillingham will probably kicking themselves as they should have put the game to bed long before the home side equalised.
Typical Bonfire Night weather poured down until just before kick off, got drier and colder as the match progressed. Gone are the days when the cups magic attracted massive gates, a pitiful 996 attended today including 160 hardy souls from Kent, suspect teh days of Fylde getting decentish gates went as soon as the boycott ended at Bloomfield down the road.
Fylde first to show intent, Danny Rowe with a free kick from 35 yards, ideal range for the frontman although this one was not accurate, it probably landed in the Costa coffee shop on the other side of the away end.
From then on in the Gills dominated and visiting keeper Morris spent much of the first half as a spectator.
There was little goal mouth action although the Gills could have scored in Mandron had made contact sliding in to a cross at the back post also O'Keefe was unlucky with a deflected shot which would have left ex North Ender Neal for dead in the Fylde goal.
On the stroke of half time two pivotal incidents happened, firstly O'Keefe clattered into aome player looked a booking which would have eant a second yellow followed by a red, not given by the referee, the home fans were less than impressed, on the stroke of half ime a fould by a Fylde player which brought a booking for the home player which did not endear the official to the home fns. Frm the resulting free kick, Wright's excellent free kick found Mandrom who volleyed home, no more than they deserved.

Quiet second period, the Gills were in cruise control until they went a bit negative with their early substitutions, settling for a one goal victory, it was to cost them as they started to lost the intiative, the introduction of Kashket showed some attacking intention and he should have settled the tie however when well placed rushed his shot which was easily saved by Neal.
Fylde began to through men forward, one effort went narrowly wide, Obi forced a good save from Glls keeper Morris, but winger Walker was the danger for the visitors and he found the corner of the net from the edge of the box. Game on, all Fylde now Walker had another effort which went narrowly wide and Rowe managed a shot on target well saved by Morris.
In the end suspect the Gills will be relieved to get a second chance in a tie they should have settled long before the end.

Just read that the legend that is Chris Brunt has just signed a permanent contract for The Albion as loans manager. Glad to see the club appreciates Brunty as much as he loves the club.

He will be in and around the academy and overseeing the loans and development of the youngsters.

Good luck in your new job Brunty, you are stellar, and deserve all the support Albion give you.

Crewe Alexandra have made Lee Bell interim manager after boss Alex Morris stood down from the role to become the club's assistant.

The League Two club say the move was made at Morris' own request, "for compassionate reasons".

Morris, previously assistant to Dave Artell, was appointed as manager in April after a spell as interim boss, with Bell becoming his assistant.

The Alex, winless in nine games since 17 September, are 16th in the league.

Bell, who played for Crewe between 2010 and 2012, will now lead the team for the first time in Saturday's FA Cup first-round tie against League Two leaders Leyton Orient.

Crewe finished bottom of the third tier last season, leading to Artell's sacking after more than five years in charge.

They picked up 15 points in their first nine league games this term but the last seven have brought just four points.

Seven of the 24 clubs in League Two have now changed their manager since the season started in July.
