As the whirring of hot fax machines heralds the last hour of the transfer window (though one could be forgiven for nursing the suspicion that Albion's business, such as it is, is done by semaphore) we contemplate an autumn ahead with the threadbare squad as is, save for the possible addition of right-back Pipa (whether that's Billie, Pied or Rowdy Roddy remains to be seen). But to give credit where it's due, the current team has taken its chances and eked out seven points from the first four matches of the season, with the opportunity to make it ten from five tomorrow as Huddersfield visit the Hawthorns.
Having won the corresponding encounter 1-0 in March, this is a chance to complete back-to-back wins against the Terriers for the first time since 1998, as a draw against Middlesbrough is the only thing that's kept them off the bottom of the table during an admittedly tough start that encompassed matches versus Norwich and Leicester, along with a less-than-ideal opening defeat at Plymouth. Nothing seems to be going right in front of goal for Huddersfield, whose 62 shots so far this season - the sixth-highest tally in the division - have yielded just two league goals, one of them put into his own net by a Boro defender off a corner. Albion, meanwhile, have been twice as vulnerable as any other team to headers in front of goal, conceding four so far, which might offer a glimmer of hope for the tallest outfield player in the UK - the 6 foot 9 inch Kyle Hudlin, who towers some 5 centimetres over comparative midget Peter Crouch - if Warnock feels inclined to give the under-used youngster a look in.
It's been five and a half years since the last Huddersfield victory at Albion, and few things would be more grindingly predictable than the visitors' conversion rate suddenly leaping from 3% up to 93% tomorrow; but hopefully, with goals coming thick and fast for the Baggies, we can get one more positive result in before the international break.

The 2,000+ Hibs supporters were magnificent during the game against Villa and there could be another big support at Pittodrie on Sunday. If the team can match that positivity and commitment, we should be in with a chance of our first points of the season.
Both teams are battling it out for the Worst Team Of The Premiership Award and Hibs need to take advantage of the situation to overtake the Dons. Mind you, the same applied to last week's game against Livingston and look how that turned out!
You can see how the game will turn out, as we've got the 4th best goals for record, but easily the worst goals against. Can our attack score more goals than the defence will leak? It could be a tight nervy game and Hibs might just field the team that finished the game against Villa. Confidence, or lack of it, could turn the game either way.

Maguire has been promoted to the EFL on loan, make sense of that if you can. He's at Crawley till January. I'd say it is a good move for him.
Freckleton is in from Sheffield Utd on loan, a left-sided centre back or full back, therefore a slightly different version of Maguire. Has had two decent loan spells in the past. Is he intended to replace Horton. Certainly our defence isn't the soundest. Is he part of the solution or just another question?

THE MATCH
SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER KO 3:00PM
v ![[Image: c8f0e1f02feea03b72811b4b50c0f4c0--britis...nesday.jpg]](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/c8/f0/e1/c8f0e1f02feea03b72811b4b50c0f4c0--british-football-sheffield-wednesday.jpg)
LAST MATCH
Well its now played 4, lost 4, as we conceded an injury time winner to Cardiff. We did ok first half but again didn't create much, just a couple of half chances for Pato & Windass. Cardiff came the closest to scoring Meite heading wide from a cross. Onto the second half and we started sloppily again, Ugbo controlling and finishing from about 6 yards. It was nearly 2 a few minutes later but Vasquez saved well. That woke us up and after Windass header was saved, Bannan curled one in from 20 yards. It looked like we were going to hang on to a point, but Vaulks was judged to have handled in the box and Wintle put away the penalty to take all 3 points.
THE MATCH
Next up and a Yorkshire derby as we make the short trip L**ds. L**ds have made a so-so start to the season, picking up there first win of the season, 4-3 at Ipswich last weekend. They have let quite a few players go who were in the Premier League, but still have several on the books, including Ayling, Gnonto & Sinisterra. Daniel Farke is there boss, taking over in the summer after having a successful spell at Norwich. They will be looking to bounce back at the first attempt, but I think the best they could hope for is a playoff spot.

Premier League
Stairs 25
Dingle 20
Derby 19
L Jane 12
Zinman 10
Blue B 10
B.B.B. 9
Minizin 6
Best scoring week of the season so far with 111 points in total and 4 players scoring their season high totals. Stairs leads the way with a top season score of 25 points, he scored on 8 games with 2 CSs including the Bonus and like most a CR on the Gamball. Not far behind is Dingle with 20 points, he scored on 7 games and managed his first 2 CSs as well. Just a point back from him is Derby with 19 points, he too scored a maximum on the Bonus.
Bit of a drop to Lady Jane in 4th with 12 points, her best score of the season so far along with a max on the Bonus. Zinman and Blue shared 5th place with 10 points each. Zinman continues his good form on the Gamball while Blue became the first player to score the negative point on the Scoreball.
BBB is 7th with 9 points, scored on the Gamball but missed on the Bonus. Minizin had his worst score of the season and like Blue scored -1 on the Scoreball.
65 Stairs
56 Minizin
50 Derby
47 Zinman
42 Dingle
38 BBB
35 Blue Baggie
32 Lady Jane
Stairs season high score propelled him to the top of the table, 9 points ahead of Minizin. Derby also gained a place to sit 3rd pushing Zinman down to 4th place. Dingle jumped 2 spots with his best score of the season, leaving BBB, Blue and Lady Jane in an early relegation fight.
So far in the PL Zinman has scored the most on the Gamball (15), Stairs the most on the Bonus (18) and Dingle the most on the scoreball (4). BBB (-2) and BlueBaggie (-5) are both negative on their total score from the 3 balls, with Zinman leading the way with 23 points in total.
Huddersfield v Norwich this week gained the most points of any game so far with 27 while last weeks Gamball, Swansea v Coventry produced the least with -8. Blue Baggie holds the distinction of the most games scored on with 8 in week 2 (he shares this with Stairs who scored on 8 this week) and the least with just 2 scoring games in week 3.
Cheers

Championship
BaggieOne 18
Twerton 16
AAA 12
Snooty 11
SCO 11
Themaclad 9
Sanjay 8
This week we have a couple of firsts for the season. Shockingly Twerton fails to claim top spot, pipped by BaggieOne who enjoyed his best week of the season with 18 points from the week's high of 6 correct predictions, including his bonus. Twerton could only (!) manage 2nd place with 16 points. In the first 4 weeks he has scored between 14 and 17 points - great consistency though he also achieved the week's other first for the Championship, losing a point from his scoreball. AAA is another consistent performer with a range of 9 to 12 points so far, this week being his highest.
Snooty and SCO are locked together on 11 points achieved in very different ways. Snooty was one of only 2 players to miss out on the gamball (such faith in Huddersfield) but made up for it with 2 correct scores from 5 correct result predictions. SCO only got 2 predictions correct (he has a bit of an excuse in that he made them some weeks ago) but the 2 he got right were the gamball and a bonus maximum.
Themaclad and Sanjay were the only players not to reach double figures, Sanjay being the only player not to get a correct score this week.
Twerton 62
AAA 43
BaggieOne 38
Themaclad 33
Sanjay 32
SCO 32
Snooty 27
Twerton's strong start continues, now opening up a 19 point gap at the top. The big mover this week is BaggieOne jumping from 6th to 3rd.
Some early season stats:
Unsurprisingly, Twerton heads the gamball scoring having so far collected 19 points with 3 out of 4 correct predictions including 2 maxima. He also has a 100% record on the bonus though hasn't yet gained a maximum - SCO and Themaclad are the only players to have a negative total from this ball.
Nobody has a full set of scoreballs with SCO leading the way with 3 out of 4.

MANAGER
Alexander Francis Neil (born 9 June 1981)[2] is a Scottish professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He is currently the manager of EFL Championship club Stoke City.
Neil began his professional career at Airdrieonians in 2000, playing half a season in the Scottish Football League First Division before moving to Barnsley. He played 142 games across all competitions in his four-year spell at Barnsley, and then signed for Mansfield Town on a free transfer. After a season at Mansfield, he returned to Scotland's First Division with Hamilton Academical, featuring in 246 matches across a decade and winning promotion to the Scottish Premier League in 2008.
He became Hamilton's player-manager in 2013 and led them to promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 2014. In January 2015 he was appointed manager of Norwich City, as the second youngest manager in the Football League at the time. Neil guided Norwich to promotion to the Premier League, by winning the 2015 Football League Championship play-off final. Norwich suffered relegation the following season, and in March 2017, Neil was sacked. He was appointed Preston North End's manager on 4 July 2017 and led the team to seventh place in the 2017–18 Championship. On 11 February 2022 Neil was appointed manager of Sunderland. They were promoted from League One to the Championship, winning 2–0 in the play-off final. He left later that year to become the manager of Stoke City.

Food
Potteries Oatcake.
Staffordshire oatcakes (very different from the Scottish version and traditionally made in corner-shop style oatcake bakeries) are a much-loved local culinary speciality. They remain popular although are no longer the cheap alternative to bread. Oatcakes can be eaten cold or hot with any sweet or savoury fillings. Lobby, a stew not unlike Lancashire hotpot, is still made by local people.
