  Prediction League Week 29 Results
Posted by: Zinman - 11-03-2024, 23:44 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (1)

Premier League

Minizin 16
Derby 14
Lady J 11
B.B.B. 10
Stairs 10
Zinman 0
Blue B -1

Decent week of scoring in terms of the average points for each player, but we are dropping players like Watford drop managers at the moment so the total points are not that high!!! Minizin gets his first top place in a while with 16 points, he got a CR on the Gamball and the Bonus and scored on 7 games, if only he could have found a couple of Correct Scores in there he could have been on for a really big score. Derby was second with 14 points, he only scored on 5 games but unlike Minizin was able to get 2 CSs. Lady Jane came third on 11 points, she was the only other player to score positive points on the Gamball.

BBB and Stairs were joint 4th with 10 points. BBB missed on the Gamball but got a CR on his bonus, Stairs managed a weeks high 2 CSs but his score was down as he missed on all his balls!!

Bottom of the participants this week is one of our league leaders, Zinman, who missed on all his balls and managed just 2 CRs to cancel out the negative points and might as well have not bothered to show up with his zero total points!!! Blue Baggie, our other league leader actually didn't bother to show up at all after struggling to cope with waiting on the results last week, so by the rules he scores one less point than the bottom scorer so ended on -1 for his lack of effort!!

351 Blue Baggie
351 Zinman
325 BBB
318 Minizin
316 Derby
287 Stairs
231 Lady Jane
204 Dingle

So after the deliberate no show and the involuntary no show we now have joint leaders in Blue Baggie and Zinman, although if Blue does decide to come back as we hope he will, Zin may well rue this week when he technically had no opponent but then tripped as he ran onto the pitch and couldn't score himself!!.

BBB takes third spot on his own, partly due to some added points from Week 26 that I missed and now holds a slender lead over Minizin and Derby with just 9 points separating all three. Stairs is firmly fixed in the relegation PO spot and LJ doesn't seem to be making up any real ground on him.

Championship

BaggieOne 20
SCO 16
AAA 15
Sanjay 12
Twerton 10
Themaclad 7
Snooty 7

A decent week for the Championship with a high proportion of correct score predictions. Balls were mixed with the bonus again causing problems. Only one fixture failed to score any points with nobody predicting Villa's humiliating, crushing, hilarious, joyful (I could go on) defeat. It was definitely a good week for 0-4 2nd halves (sorry, Snooty).

BaggieOne had his best week of the season to secure his first 20 point week and sit perched on top of the Championship table this week. He was helped by a gamball maximum as one of 3 correct scores and the week's high of 6 correct predictions, though he did put his bonus on a Villa win - apparently they lost, rather heavily. SCO reacted to Twerton's pressure at the top by posting another strong week with 16 points from 5 correct predictions and 3 maximums, though he failed with the Gamball.
AAA is 3rd with the week's only bonus maximum - he chose not to play the gamball and therefore lost out on 2 points as he predicted the draw. It seems that whenever he avoids the gamball, he gets it right whereas if he does play it he gets it wrong!

Sanjay and Twerton reached double figures, Sanjay matching SCO's 3 out of 5 correct score predictions but he was let down by his balls. Twerton scored on just 4 games including his bonus but only got 1 correct score.

Themaclad and Snooty both scored 7 points to share the bottom spot. Themaclad only got 2 results correct but was saved by one of them being a maximum and the other his bonus. Snooty was the only player not to get a score right but did pick up 4 points from the Gamball.

320 SCO
312 Twerton
286 Snooty
281 AAA
266 Themaclad
257 BaggieOne
219 Sanjay

No changes in overall positions with the top 2 looking set for promotion. The battle for the play-off spot is intense with just 5 points between AAA and Snooty - will AAA live to regret his reluctance to play the Gamball?

Finally, can I apologise to whoever runs this site for posting these results on Monday causing them to miss out on about 350 site visits?

HTAFC Prediction League 2024 Matchday 11
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 11-03-2024, 22:34 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (18)

2 points for correct result
4 points for correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh (correct score on a joker would give you 8 points)
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

The prize for winning the league is one rep point.

Cup games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. Similarly with the badger, if your random prediction is affected by this, it'll be half the points.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

End of season Play Offs: The one who finishes top of the league will still be champion, but after the season finishes there will be Play Offs between the top 4, with 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. This will take in stuff like the EFL Play Offs, FA Cup Final, final day of Prima Donna League, European Finals etc. It will be one matchday for the semis and one for the Final. It will be the individual scores for each matchday against the allotted opponent, with some kind of tie breaker for a drawn match.

The prize for winning will be enormous. Another rep point. Whistle

So we have a new format for this season, which I put forward as an idea at the end of last season. Nobody offered any objections so here it is explained......

Firstly, I thought it was getting a bit boring towards the end with the league format as it was with the champion being so far ahead and everybody else not much to play for apart from the push for a play off spot, which was a bit of an anticlimax anyway. The most exciting bit was the tussle for 8th, 9th and 10th positions with Shep, Ritchie and Amelia.  Whistle

So I'm splitting the group up into two groups with the top six from last season in the top group and the bottom six in group 2. At the end of the season, the winner of group 2 and the bottom of group 1 will swap places in what is commonly known as "promotion" and "relegation". It's something that most football fans will be familiar with, unless you're a fan of Liverpool or Arsenal or one of those other fashionable clubs.

The second placed player in group 2 will then have a play off with the player who finishes second from the bottom in group 1 to decide whether they will be going up, down or staying where they are.

We're going to have two seasons in one though, just to try and make it a bit more interesting and not so long drawn out. The first season will end on the Boxing Day fixtures, with the play offs being on the dates of the Twixtmas fixtures and the NYD fixtures.

The second season will start the following week, finishing on the last game of the Championship season. Then another period of relegation/promotion play off games, taking in such fixtures as the EFL play offs, FA Cup Final, UEFA finals and such like.

Each group will have it's own set of fixtures. Both groups will have the Town games, with scorers to predict as before. Then it will be a split of Championship fixtures and bonus matches. And not as many fixtures to go at. Hopefully around ten, eleven or twelve games per Matchday.

The rest of the rules will be the same as before apart from the Badger which will still be in use, but I'm going to get arsey about it. Sometimes in the past, I've been able to just award two points immediately because it was such a nailed on thing to happen. Not accusing anyone of cheating. Far from it. I didn't put any boundaries on it, so anything was alright. So now I'm restricting it to three goal scorers in any of the games in your group. Sorry to all our more adventurous badgerers.

Here's how that will appear at the end of the fixture list. All you have to do is fill in the blanks.......

Badger *** scores for ***
Badger *** scores for ***
Badger *** scores for ***

Any of those will score two points if correct. No minus points for getting it wrong.

The joker  Laugh will still be the same as before, ie doubling your points for a correct prediction or minus 2 for getting it wrong.

Postponed matches will only count if the match is re-played before the next Matchday is under way. Abandoned matches will be awarded half the points for the score at the time of abandonment, so 1 point if you have the correct result, 2 points if you have the correct score.

Substitute Badger :- These will be only be allowed if you change them before the match involved has kicked off.

  Ross County v Hibs
Posted by: HerefordBull - 11-03-2024, 18:30 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (2)

After the disappointment following Sundays Cup exit to sevco, Hibs face the long trek North to face Ross County on Wednesday night.

A very difficult game with the Staggies fighting for every point. Hibs will be without Boyle and I don't know on whether Vente and Miller will be available?

It'll be the turn of the Hibs players to be a little leggy with the Ross players well rested.

I feel Montgomery needs to win Wednesday and the home game on Saturday to keep the Hibs fans onside! Although, apparently, the team are playing better they need to start winning games on a consistent basis.........however it looks like the officials are not making it easy for them. Doh Yet again yesterday, ( caught the game on viaplay) there were some bemusing decisions.

I think the problem is that not why certain decisions are given to the uglies but why similar scenarios are, invariably, not given against them? Very frustrating, made worse by VAR and tells me that I made the right decision in going back to non league football. Wink I also don't come across the scum who support sevco who were disgusting yesterday ( again!) especially when Boyle was down hurt and nobody knew how bad the situation was.

  Plymouth Argyle Home Park 16/3/2024

Plymouth Argyle v Preston North End
Home Park 16/3/2024

Home Park is a football stadium in Plymouth, England. The ground has been the home of EFL Championship club Plymouth Argyle since 1901.[4]

After undergoing considerable development in the 1920s and 1930s, the ground suffered heavy damage in World War II. It reopened in time for the resumption of the Football League in 1945, and underwent further improvements in the 1950s, including the installation of floodlights and a new double-decker grandstand. The ground remained relatively unchanged until 2001, when construction of three new all-seater stands began.[5] Temporary solutions saw the stadium become all-seater in the summer of 2007,[6] before the Mayflower Grandstand, the oldest part of the ground, was redeveloped in 2019.

The stadium's record attendance was in 1936, when 43,596 spectators watched the club play a Second Division match against Aston Villa. The record average attendance for a single season, 23,290, came in the 1946–47 season.[7] The stadium was selected as part of England's 2018 FIFA World Cup bid by the FA in December 2009.[8][9] The ground has played host to England youth internationals, and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup match between Saint-Étienne and Manchester United in 1977.[10] Home Park has also hosted Rugby union and athletics, and live music in the summer, with Elton John, George Michael and Rod Stewart among the acts who have performed at the ground.[11]

Looking at those directions it's easy

Only been once, this man Mark Leonard scored. He only scored twice whilst wearing a North End shirt this effort counted during a 4-0 defeat

CULTURAL STUFF

Plymouth Castle was a castle built in the early 15th century to defend the town and harbour of Plymouth in Devon, England. By the end of the 16th century it had ceased to have any military function and fell into disrepair, being almost completely demolished by the 19th century. Only a small fragment of an outer gatehouse remains.

History

The coat of arms of the City of Plymouth show the four towers of Plymouth Castle with the saltire of Saint Andrew. The motto, Turris Fortissima est Nomen Jehova means "The strongest tower is the name of Jehovah".
At the time of the Norman Conquest in 1066, Plymouth, then known as Sutton, was too small a settlement to warrant fortification, but a motte and bailey castle was built at nearby Plympton.[1] As the value of the natural harbour, Sutton Pool, and the size of the town increased, so in 1377, a murage grant was received to fund its fortification. The exact date of the construction of the castle itself is uncertain, but following a French raid on Plymouth in August 1403, King Henry IV ordered the prior of Plympton and the abbot of Tavistock to further fortify the town with walls and towers. No finance seems to have been forthcoming from the Crown and Edmund Lacey, the Bishop of Exeter, later granted indulgences to those who made contributions towards the cost of the project. Instead of town walls, the defences took the form of a quadrangular castle with four towers. It was not the seat of a powerful baron or a royal constable like a traditional castle, but it was commanded by the town's mayor and the defence of it was in the hands of the aldermen, each of the four wards of the town being responsible for one of the four towers.[2] These are the four towers represented in the city's coat of arms to this day.[3]

In 1542, the antiquary John Leland visited Plymouth and recorded that: "On a rokky hill hard by it [the mouth of the harbour] is a strong castel quadrate having a eche corner a great rounde tower. It semeth to be no very old peace of worke".[4] During the Prayer Book Rebellion of 1549, the castle provided a refuge for the town's officials. Although the castle was manned again in preparation for the Spanish Armada in 1588, Francis Drake obtained royal funding for a modern artillery fort further south on the eastern end of Plymouth Hoe, which superseded the castle as the main defence of the harbour. During the English Civil War, Plymouth declared for Parliament and was besieged in 1643 by Royalist forces; the castle was again made ready for defence but saw no action. The castle was later used as a prison, then as a workhouse and finally as a source of building material for the expanding town.[1]

Surviving remains
A small section of the castle fabric survives in the Barbican area of Plymouth, located in Lambhay Street, at the head of a flight of stairs leading down to the Mayflower Steps on the quayside. It is thought to be a section of an outer gatehouse called the "South Port". The remains consist of a short length of thick rubble wall 3 metres high, with a central semicircular projection, the remains of a turret of the gatehouse. It is a Grade II listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.[5]

TENUOUS LINK TIME

On the way to Plymouth you have to go through the West Midlands birthday of Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant

Who’s Available?

Brad Potts is back in training after missing the last four matches through injury, although Saturday may come slightly too soon for his return.

Ched Evans is still unavailable and expecting to be back in a couple of weeks, but other than the forward it’s a fully-fit squad.

Andrew Hughes became a first-time dad during the week and would have missed the Southampton match, however he’s been back in training on Thursday and Friday and will be in contention this weekend.

Opposition Focus

Stoke City arrive at Deepdale on Saturday in need of points, sitting 22nd in the table and right in the middle of a relegation fight involving a number of teams.

The Potters have won only twice since the turn of the year, although victory over Middlesbrough last weekend and their performance against promotion-pushing Leeds United during the week have offered signs of encouragement.

Former North End midfielder Ben Pearson will miss a return to Deepdale this weekend due to two yellow cards at Elland Road, while PNE legend Paul Gallagher will be in the dugout and former Player of the Year winner Daniel Iversen in between the sticks.

Match Officials

Referee: Josh Smith
Assistant Referees: Matthew Jones and Adam Crysell
Fourth Official: Jeremy Simpson

North End will be refereed by Josh Smith for the fifth time this season on Saturday.

His last PNE match was the Boxing Day victory over Leeds United, and in total this season he’s taken charge of 28 matches, showing 110 yellow cards and six reds.

Carlos the cobra has favoured a 4-2-3-1 for the last 2 matches; home and away. The only change he made was to put Reach in at left-back instead of Conor Townsend who had gone off with a hamstring problem against Coventry.

Roving Baggies
If our Baggie friends are travelling, there's not much open around the ground these days. Not only do our facilities not look premier league any more, but I doubt they look League One to the visitor. Even Costa shuts before the final whistle on a regular kick-off day. That will be open. The Pizza Hut is holding on. I think the Apsley may be the closest establishment selling the demon drink but I'll stand corrected by anyone in the know on that.
Directions to the ground aren't necessary; just follow the deafening sounds of crap music that will be emanating from the ground. It's what some nutter believes to be suitable warm-up music.

  Prediction League Results Week 28

B.B.B. 16
Stairs 15
Zinman 10
Blue B 10
Minizin 8
Derby 6
Lady J 6
Dingle 0

Better week in the PL this week, everyone missed the Gamball but everyone scored on the Bonus!! We once again see an in form BBB at the top of the table with 16 points, he scored on 7 games including one CS. Stairs was 2nd with 15 points which included a week's high 2 correct scores. Our battling leaders, Blue Baggie and Zinman, finished joint 3rd with 10 points each. Blue scored on more games but Zinman was able to get one correct score to match the points total.

Minizin was 5th with 8 points, Derby and Lady Jane ended effectively last each with 6 points. Not much to report on with these three but Derby needs to watch those fat fingers when posting as he did not add a score for Brighton in their game against Fulham so this prediction was void in the end!!

352 Blue Baggie
351 Zinman
302 Derby
302 Minizin
302 BBB
277 Stairs
220 Lady Jane
204 Dingle

No change with the top 2, still a solitary point between them. But we now see the crazy situation with Derby, Minizin and BBB all level on points in the battle for 3rd place!! They are all still way behind the front two but this race looks like the relegation race in the real Championship at the moment!!

Championship

Twerton 19
Snooty 15
Themaclad 15
BaggieOne 11
SCO 10
Sanjay 7
AAA 2

Unlike in the Premiership, the Gamball provided a decent return with just 3 players losing out on it. In contrast, for the first time this season, nobody scored on the scoreball - fortunately none of the eligible games finished scoreless or we'd have been looking at a negative total score! There was also a distinct lack of correct scores - and the 4 scores that were correct all came from the same match!

Twerton heads the table having scored on 7 of the games including both the gamball and bonus. Snooty also got 7 results right but lost out on his bonus to sit joint 2nd with Themaclad - 6 correct predictions for him including the gamball and bonus, but unfortunately he failed to get any correct scores. BaggieOne and SCO gained respectability by reaching double figures, BaggieOne scoring on just 4 games but achieving the week's only bonus maximum. Sanjay's struggles continued with just 3 correct predictions though at least these included the gamball and 1 correct score while AAA endured a miserable week with just 2 points and missing on all his balls.

304 SCO
302 Twerton
279 Snooty
266 AAA
259 Themaclad
237 BaggieOne
207 Sanjay

It's getting tight at the top with both SCO and Twerton passing the 300 point mark and Twerton closing the gap to just 2 points. They have opened a decent gap to Snooty in 3rd place who himself has some space in the play-off chase due to AAA's poor week. No changes at the bottom though Themaclad is closing on AAA.
