24/25 WBA Prediction League - Week 1 Results - St Charles Owl - 20-08-2024

Some slight changes to the format this season - please see below.

Group A

Themaclad 17
Minizin 17
A.A.A. 11
Amelia 8
Twerton 6
Zinman 3

Decent scoring in Group A in the first week back. Themaclad and Minizin obviously worked hard in pre-season and came out of the blocks running, both scoring a good 17 points. Themaclad scored a CR on the Gamball, Minizin missed on his but ended with 2 CSs to boost his total. Both managed to score positive points on the Bonus Ball. AAA is third with 11 points, he failed to get an CSs but did manage to score points on both the Gamball and the Bonus.

Amelia, good to see her back this season, finished 4th with 8 points, a couple of points ahead of Twerton on 6 points. The defending Champion Zinman brings up the rear with a poor 3 points, I am sure he will say he is just being kind and giving others a head start but time will tell!!

Positive totals on the Gamball and Bonus for a change, lets see if that becomes a trend or is just a blip!!

Group B

BaggieOne 11pts
SCO 11
Lady Jane 10
Stairs 9
Derby 7
BBB 3
Snooty 2

A steady start to the season - nobody started with a sprint and nobody went backwards, though Snooty did try! The Derby - Middlesbrough match caused a few problems, no one foresaw a Derby victory and it also blew 3 bonus balls with the Championship, as usual, looking hard to predict.

The week's league lead is shared by BaggieOne and SCO. B1 equalled the week's best results and score predictions though lost out on the major balls. SCO was one of 2 players to score on the gamball but missed out on the other balls. Lady Jane follows just a point behind as the other positive gamballer. Stairs and Derby occupy mid table, Stairs equalling B1's 5 correct results while Derby was one of the 2 players scoring on his bonus. BBB got off to a quiet score with just 3 correct predictions none of which were his balls while Snooty was saved from a negative start by the fact that his only correct result was his bonus.

2024/2025 Season Format Changes

So on to those changes. With relatively few players we've decided to operate 2 groups, imaginatively called Group A and Group B - these groups were chosen randomly by Zin's solar powered super computer. The league will run until the weekend of April 19th when the play off positions will be decided. At that time the leaders of each Group will go through to the play-offs and receive a bye in the first round. The next 4 highest scorers (from either Group) will play off against each other on the week of April 26th with the top 2 going through to meet the Group winners in the 2nd round. The top 2 from that round will play off for the overall championship with Zin being the winner. In the event of any ties during the play offs, the winner will be determined by the number of correct score predictions that week and if they are equal by the number of correct results. If we still have a tie then the player scoring the highest number of points in the regular season will go through.

There are no changes to the scoring this season.

All very simple.

Cheers
Zin & SCO

My MR HAPPY side is saying thanks to St Charles for the scoring ssystem he posted + he was glad to see the days of the games seperaated.

Although MR GRUMPY doesn't like the 9pt difference you could get on the game ball when last years winner only had an average of 11pts.

Also why new leagues when 6 of the Prem lague are still playing with 4 demoted to B league and only MIN an Zin in the A league to be together..

Oh and MR HAPPY was pleased last weeks results were posted much earlier than a Thursday.

To answer your questions:

1. No problem!!
2. That's why its called the Gamball, we reduced the gap between a correct score and incorrect one a couple of seasons back. There is a risk to playing this ball, but having an even better reward sees it played virtually every week by all.
3. The leagues were picked at random, there is no hierarchy between them, they are equal side by side leagues. There is no promotion or relegation but their is now a post season playoffs to determine the Champion. We wanted to try something different.
4. Might want to temper your pleasure at this one, I fly to the UK today and am then off to Italy for two weeks, I will get my scoring done while I am away but it might not always be Tuesday!!

Sorry didn't note dowm: On the score ball if you get it wrong is there a deduction?

MR GRUMPY'S point on NO 3 was why change them when you had all 6 members playing after going thru play-offs last season?  He can't see the point of that?

As a point:  If a player doesn't play for some reason why not add his average pts for the season - and so on until 3/4 weeks?

No, you get deducted a point if you play it on a game that ends 0-0.

RE: 24/25 WBA Prediction League - Week 1 Results - Zinman - 26-02-2025

Thought I’d comment on this thread to remind everyone (especially me) of how we will conclude this season.

Bumping this to answer Minizin’s question. April 19th is the cut off.
