Race recap:
An easy 1,2 for Mercedes, Hamilton's fourth win of the year ahead of Rosberg.
The Williams of Bottas beat Raikkonen's Ferrari to third place thanks to a spin at the hairpin by Raikkonen.
[Image: Kimi_Raikkonen_Canadian_F1_Grand_Prix_s_Iif_CGa_Cf3.jpg]
Vettel and Massa both came through the field after both problems in qualifying to finish 5th and 6th respectively.
It was definitely a race where having the Mercedes engine was an advantage: the Renault engined Red Bulls and Toro Rossos were poor, the only highlight being Kvyat salvaging ninth place; the Sauber Ferraris and Marussia Ferraris were slow; both McLaren Hondas retired. In contrast the Lotus Mercedes had their best qualifying of the season, with Maldonado able to convert that to his first points finish of the season in 7th, but Grosjean with a scrappy race to 10th. The Force India Mercedes were also relatively quick, Hulkenburg taking a good 8th, although Perez was anonymous on a track that he is normally good at in 11th.

Race recap:
Another 1-2 for Mercedes, but unusually Rosberg wins on merit ahead of Hamilton in second place. (With no disrespect intended towards Rosberg, him beating Hamilton in a direct battle is rare.)
Ferrari's Vettel loses third place to the Williams of Massa after a problem in the pits. Bottas in the second Williams takes fifth with some good overtakes. Raikkonen in the other Ferrari has a weekend to forget, qualifying poorly and then crashing scarily on the opening lap taking out Alonso:
Hulkenburg continues the momentum of his win at the 24 hours of Le Mans last week with a good sixth place in his Force India. His teammate Perez came 9th. Force India will use their new b-spec car from the next race.
Maldonado took 7th again in his Lotus after some hairy moments behind Verstappen's Toro Rosso who eventually came 8th:

Ricciardo had a good race to 10th place in the Red Bull, coming through the field due to a poor qualifying exacerbated by grid penalties and a 5 second time penalty for using more than his season's power unit allocation. We're not even at the halfway point of the season, so many more grid penalties and time penalties are likely to hit the Renault engined Red Bulls and Toro Rossos as well as the Honda engined McLarens.

Race recap:
The Williams pair of Massa and Bottas got great starts off the grid to get ahead of the two Mercedes of Hamilton and Rosberg. Hamilton came back at Bottas before losing the place again when attacking Massa:
[Image: HappygoluckyWateryBluetickcoonhound.gif]
Hamilton eventually managed to jump the pair at the pit stops to take the lead (Williams again showing their tactical naivety). Then the rain came... Rosberg used the Mercedes superior downforce in the damp to overtake both Williams to take second place and Vettel came from nowhere to claim third. Massa finished fourth and Bottas just held onto fifth from Kvyat in the Red Bull in sixth. The Force Indias had a good race in their B spec car, with 7th and 9th. Raikkonen in the second Ferrari fared badly in 8th after gambling early on changing to the intermediate tyres. Alonso claimed his first points finish of the season in 10th despite an early pit for a replacement front wing.
Ericsson in the Sauber was disappointed to miss out on points in 11th: another one to suffer with gambles on the intermediate tyres.
The Manor Marussia drivers trundled home 12th and 13th, two laps down.
As for those that retired: a first lap crash took care of both Lotus drivers and Button's McLaren, Nasr's Sauber didn't make the grid with gearbox issues, the Renault engines of Ricciardo (Red Bull) and Sainz (Toro Rosso) failed and Verstappen in the other Toro Rosso span off.

In the news, Lotus are facing a winding up order from creditors; Maldonado's millions in sponsorship should be enough for them to survive but there are rumours that they will be bought by Renault.

Race recap:

The f1 community mourned the loss of Jules Bianchi, who finally succumbed to the injuries he suffered in last year's Japanese Grand Prix. A minute of silence was held before the race start:

For the second race in a row, the Mercedes were beaten off the line by cars behind, both Vettel and Raikkonen in the Ferraris got ahead of Hamilton and Rosberg. Hamilton then ran wide at the chicane and fell down to tenth place. Rosberg did not have the pace or desire to challenge the Ferraris ahead, but the prospect of a great 1-2 for the Italian team was brought to an end when Raikkonen started to experience problems with the hybrid part of his power unit.
The safety car was brought out so marshals could clean up the debris from Hulkenburg's front wing failing:
At the restart, Hamilton collided with Ricciardo's Red Bull at turn 1. The stewards deemed Hamilton was at fault and he received a drive through penalty.
Mercedes had made a tactical error in putting Rosberg on the slower medium tyre when he pitted under the safety car, but even with this disadvantage, he was able to pass the ailing Raikkonen. Rosberg was then put under pressure from Ricciardo. The young Australian took a dive down the inside of the German and the two collided after Rosberg cut back in front of Ricciardo, damaging Ricciardo's front wing and puncturing Rosberg's tyre, ending both drivers chances of winning.
Vettel won, putting him on the same number of career wins as Ayrton Senna. The Red Bulls of Kvyat and Ricciardo were second and third, making it the first podium since Brazil 2013 that a Mercedes team driver has not been on the podium. Verstappen was lucky to get a great fourth for Toro Rosso: the team unusually chose to give him the undercut at the first pitstops to get him ahead of his teammate Sainz and then the stewards were perhaps too lenient in their choice of penalty for Verstappen speeding under the safety car.
Alonso gave McLaren their best result of the season so far with fifth place, and his teammate Button placed ninth.
Hamilton recovered from his various incidents to take sixth, a good result in light of the title race as at one point in the race it looked as if Rosberg was set to take the lead of the championship going into the summer break, but Rosberg's puncture meant he had to settle for eighth place.
The other points finishers were Grosjean in seventh for Lotus and Ericsson in tenth for Sauber.
Both Williams drivers had poor races: Bottas had a couple of collisions with Ricciardo and Verstappen; Massa never recovered from a 5 second penalty for causing the start of the race to be aborted by not lining up in his grid slot properly.
Maldonado kept the stewards busy, earning three penalties in total for crashing with Perez, speeding in the pitlane and overtaking behind the safety car.

Race recap:
Back to normal form with an easy one-two for Mercedes: Hamilton winning after Rosberg had a bad start.
Grosjean took the final spot on the podium for Lotus, which will be important for the team as their financial troubles continue while awaiting a possible takeover by Renault.
Ferrari's Vettel was running in third place until his tyre exploded with less than two laps to go. He was naturally unimpressed by this and took his wrath out on the tyre supplier Pirelli in the postrace interviews.
Kvyat raced well for Red Bull to fourth, and Perez in the Force India continued their good pace since introducing their b-spec car to take fifth.
Massa was sixth for Williams, Raikkonen seventh for Ferrari.
Verstappen placed eighth for Toro Rosso after some more great overtaking manoeuvres that belie his young age:
Bottas was perhaps lucky to claim ninth for Williams, the stewards only penalising him with a drive through penalty for using an illegal combination of tyres. Ericsson took the final point for Sauber in tenth ahead of his teammate Nasr.
The McLarens of Alonso and Button were painfully slow on a "power" track, the horsepower deficit of their Honda engine being abundantly clear.
