Merry Christmas Matt .... and everybody. Thanks. I hope Danny can make our club more open place, in which fans know what the club's trying to do, where he wants to take us and addresses both things that go right and those that will inevitably go wrong.

He is someone we can trust. If the fans make it obvious they trust him, then the players will be there for him. They'll just get it. Players want to win and they want to be popular.

I love posters from other boards commenting on us. It's just sad when they have to be so pathetically parochial. Banter's great, but there's no need for it to descend into battery. (Though we do seem to be about 3-0 up at the moment!)

He did get you halfway up the Premier League the previous season ....... but at the time you were a club trying to arrest a decline. David Pleat spent a lot of money to little avail and to be fair Danny was also given the ammunition to make a team, but it didn't work, and managing Wednesday does represent his least successful period.

If he can manage his usual win ratio over more than a thousand games of 40% Chesterfield will stay up ...... just. If we appoint him that is, which in the dark world of football secrets, Louis van Gaal and mince pies is anybody's guess.

Yes correct Shreeves was in charge when we went down but it was Wilson who bought the players that took us down.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing and had we known the slump we would go into maybe things would have been different.  Wilson didn't start the rot but he was part of it.  Still love him for what he did as a player though!!

The thing that gets me is the way chairmen consistently keep recycling the same old managers.  Of course eventually every manager fails and gets fired at some point but there are not enough young British managers getting opportunities to get a career going in the lower leagues.  But Wilson will definitely give you hard work and honesty with his plain speaking, I just hope he can keep you up and begin to build on the foundations you have built already.

As for DA, the less said the better from our perspective.  If he is doing a good job with you then great but he was a disaster at S6, albeit under very difficult circumstances, and he left a very sour taste in most fans mouths during his reign.  He is not the worst chairman we have had though, that honor still resides with Sir Dave Richards!!!

Merry Christmas to you guys as well!!

You are spot on about other posters coming on and having their say about your team.  It happens all the time in these situations.  Our board was inundated with Bolton fans when we appointed Megson which caused some fairly colorful threads, it went on for months.

I for one hold nothing against Wilson, I hope he does well for you and rights the ship this season.  After that it all depends of what he is given to spend and how good your scouting is.  Good luck for the rest of the season.

Merry Christmas Devon and everybody. I hope it works out for Danny and I'm sure most fans will get behind him seeing as he was a former Spireite. The players on Boxing day will put in a good performance I reckon to show Wilson why they deserve a place in the starting eleven under him.

I don't mind posters from other boards commenting on us.

We're not deluded or thick we're just optimistic and hope one of our former players succeeds as manager. One of the facts you state I was told by a Wednesday fan several years ago and yes it is a little bit worrying and I think if we get relegated back down to L2 there's a possibility of it happening.

Yes the point of debate is to argue and use facts to back up your argument and that is fine but to insult and call people names because they don't agree with your opinion or argument is puerile.

Funniest thing about old Imre is that he doesn't think getting Barnsley into the Premier League is much of an achievement. Barnsley has spent longer in the second tier of English football than any other club. They had spent just 99 years trying to reach the top division when Danny got them there. Not much of an achievement really.

Sometimes the players you buy don't make a team, sometimes, as Mourinho found, the team decides not to be a team. Things didn't work out for Danny when managing Wednesday ...... as they haven't for several other managers. The problems at Wednesday have been bigger than any single manager. It would be great for us if they could re-establish themselves in the Premier League. A club just twelve miles or so away, likely to discard talent that might only be of Championship standard? But we'll also always want to beat them at any possible opportunity. When I was playing amateur football life didn't get much better than beating teams from Sheffield or Mansfield.

I strongly agree with St Charles Owl about young British managers. Just as there are Jamie Vardy's lurking in non-league, there are talented young managers full of ideas. Desperation and good fortune turned Eddie Howe from player to successful manager at Bournemouth - would he have got the nod had their situation not been so perilous? But in a moment of genius they made the right choice.

For years I've wanted Danny Wilson to take the reins at Chesterfield. I've made no secret that now I'd have gone for a younger, less experienced man, but Danny's playing career really took off with us and this is a chance for him to round it off with a lasting legacy. If he can develop an organisation that scouts some young talent, identifies discarded academy and undiscovered non-league talent, and simultaneously puts a team on the pitch that wants to play for Chesterfield and get our fans behind it he'll have achieved the earth for us.

The danger is that this nice, decent man is going to rely on the good offices of both DA and CT. He was no coward on the field, I just hope he has the steel to remain his own man, the one Chesterfield fans genuinely admire.

Imre, one thing Allen did for us was give us a new stadium. Without him it would never have happened. Not interested or bothered what he did or didn't do at Hillsborough that's history.
Wilson gave us 3 years as a competitive heart on sleeve type player and despite what you think he hasn't done bad in management and hopefully will turn us round. Like I said before until somebody else comes in who is better then that's our lot. Unless I win the lottery Allen will be there for a while yet.
Dev, football teams don't deserve to be anywhere other than where they are. Sheffield Wednesday shouldn't be in the prem. They are where they are - fact. Nobody deserves anything just because they have great support. That's why football is such a great game - or was until big money hijacked the Prem.
Not so long ago Man City were playing us in the 3rd tier. They bounced back quicker than Sheff Weds, Leeds and Sheff U have but to say either of those 3 deserve to be higher than they currently is just plain wrong. Leicester are top of the Prem, they are there on merit not just because they have good support.
Maybe if Sheffield only had one football team they might do better. Call it Sheffield Meadowhall build a new stadium and pull down Hillsborough and Bramall Lane. Now that's deserving :-)

Dancing, where does Devon say we "deserve" to be in the PL?? He suggests it would be good for you if we could "re-establish themselves in the Premier League", which is slightly different. I don't think I have come across any Owls fan who truly thinks we "deserve" to be in the prem, we have the potential to get there and maybe do ok once there, but its not a god given right for us by any means.
