A popular choice no doubt but with a chequered management career.Decent success at Barnsley and Hartlepool and to an extent Bristol City and Sheff U but flopped at Barnsley second time around and MK Dons.

He was also the manager who got us relegated from the Prem in 2000, although that was early in his managerial career after his first successful stint at Barnsley.  He would have got the Blunts promoted from League 1 had it not been for the Ched Evans saga, we probably wouldn't have caught them that season had Evans played in their run-in.

To be accurate Peter Shreeves actually relegated The Owls - you'd already sacked Danny. He did get you halfway up the Premier League the previous season ....... but at the time you were a club trying to arrest a decline. David Pleat spent a lot of money to little avail and to be fair Danny was also given the ammunition to make a team, but it didn't work, and managing Wednesday does represent his least successful period.

If he can manage his usual win ratio over more than a thousand games of 40% Chesterfield will stay up ...... just. If we appoint him that is, which in the dark world of football secrets, Louis van Gaal and mince pies is anybody's guess.

Happy with Danny Wilson. An honest bloke who will do his best for us. Just hope he gets the backing he needs from the board and the fans. Not sure I would have taken it on if I was him. Living near Ashgate Hospice might mean a move if things go tits up. Still hope it wont get that far. If anybody can turn us round IMO he's the one.
Welcome home Danny Wilson.

Press conference this afternoon.

To be rights you could get Pep or Mou and still you will fail !!! as long as that big Rat allen is running the club !! and he is a Rat he almost destoyed the oldest club in yorkshire !!

Wilson stats says he cant win Big games !! hes the worst manager in the world with anyone who maybe a star or think they are ? he was learning with wednesday but he handled the dicanio situation awfull !! he must have had the head phones on for 3 years when listening to Big ron and the way it should have been done ? but then again he had Trevor francis after that who was also terrible at handleing players ? which is strange aswell because he was the biggest Diva of his time ? possibly wilson got confused by all this and Allen and Richardson Rats ruining a club aswell !! after he had a brief moment of glory at Barnsley and again failed to handle players when they played in the premier ? he failed agin for the Pigs and didnt handle anything well ? ched evans was proof of this and the failure to not have seen it coming like a large red bus ?? he didnt he messed it all up and went back to a Barnlsey who are broke and again he failed to handle players some of which play in the premier today ?

Not a good track record .. i wouldnt want him to coach our ballboys in the future because hes quite cabable of xxxx that up aswell !!

Took Barnsley into the Prem which is higher than Wednesday have been for some time. Did Ok at Rammel Lane and if he hadn't been sacked would probably have taken them up as well.
Some of us don't have a multi millionaire owner chucking money at us and we have to work with what we can. Allen and Danny Wilson will do fine for me until somebody better comes along.

His track record is good enough to keep us in lge 1 which is our current aspiration - not playing in the Prem.
If Weds ball boys need a coach why not try Dean Saunders?

Took Barnsley in the prem thats all hes done in how many years of management ? and as for sheffield united lol he completly screwed everything up there ( well done to him though ) and its not a tit for tat and realy ffs wednesday will be back soon anyway as we have a brilliant coach and chairman and also fans to pay for the ambition of staying there for a very long time when we do eventualy go up ,unlike so many who just go up for a quick look !!

my opion is hes shit !! and stats back this up !! good luck with that !!

Oldest club in Yorkshire is Sheffield FC. Wednesday second oldest and United third oldest. So you should be happy with that as Wednesday beat United again.

No matter who was appointed manager they would have a tough job on there hands and I'm happy with the appointment of Danny Wilson and I think he could keep us up if he doesn't it won't be his fault but the fault of his predecessor and a name you mention above. Now all the fans need to get behind him and the team and hope and pray that we can stay in L1. It's a tough ask but not impossible, L1 this season is a piss poor league and if we had kept Cook and the players and invested in the team we could have got into the Championship but Allen didn't want that as we needed to sell players to get the debt down.

Oh dear, I can understand the bitterness of any Wednesday fan over Mr Allen, but to malign one of their own former players (who would in truth outshine any of their current squad on the field) because the best he could manage them to was 12th in the Premier League is a bit rich for me.

With Danny Wilson you get motivation, commitment and good faith. He's loyal. He was an all-time favourite at Chesterfield and, unlike some Wednesday fans, we don't forget our heroes. If his weakness is that he can't manage big-time players he's not likely to have a problem with us any time soon. In fact he could safely take over any club in Yorkshire, Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire without troubling himself about a big-time player couldn't he?

My own choice would have been a younger, less-experienced manager with some non-league time in his background, because that's where I think we should be recruiting players. Cast-offs from the bigger clubs around us used to be a fruitful source, but unfortunately none of them are currently that much better than us.

40% wins would keep us up and a few years ago Danny did exactly the job we're asking from him for Swindon. I hope we can then ask him to build our club into Championship challengers, because that is the best we can reasonably expect ever to be in a depressed footballing area. If Derby don't make it to the Premier League it's a trip to Manchester, Leicester or Stoke from Chesterfield for a club in the big-time. Of course Sheffield should there, and the sadness is that their fans have now become so accustomed to the small-time that we and our new manager are now rivals to be belittled.

Honesty, integrity and hard work have a lot to be said for them. We're getting all of them with Danny and there have been times when those qualities have been AWOL from our club and football itself. We're lucky to have such a decent man.

Spot on Dev I agree 110%. It doesn't matter what he did 15 years ago at Sheffield Wednesday that's in the past. I hope he succeeds with us.

Up the Spireites. Thumb up
