There were two incidents with refs making delayed decisions today, first one was in the Villa-Arsenal game when the ref took a few seconds to give a penalty for Arsenal, and the second was the delay in the offside decision in your game for the disallowed goal. While these delays are frustrating for fans in the heat of the moment, ultimately both sets of officials got the decision spot on, Arsenals was a penalty and Olsson was offside!! I would rather the officials just take a moment to run it through their mind, even consult with each other, but get the decision right rather than get it wrong instantly.

See below different comments from the offside goal via twitter and westbrom.com

I propose that every time a team scores against us at the Hawthorns our team pick the ball up for a good 40 seconds whilst we play a re-play on the screen giving the referee a chance to have another look and rule the goal out for any foul play or offside seen with the aid of video technology. That is what happened today isn't it? Or will they come out and explain why the referee appears to have instructed the linesman to raise his flag for offside ages after the goal was given?

Ignoring the fact it was the right decision (as I don't think that is relevant). It is bang out of order if the officials did change their mind after seeing the Tv screens in the stadium, which does look likely.
So replay technology is now suddenly allowed if it benefits only one of the big teams?

Interested in how the decision for offside was arrived at. Technically he was marginally off so correct decision but how did it take so lng to decide. Possibly discussion about another player being offside interfering with play. Otherwise seems rather dubious if outside influences made decision.

If run independently not a problem, but if only certain clips get shown will clearly favour the home side.

I think that was given offside due to the replays in the ground. I didn't see the lino flag and it was ages after that it was disallowed.

How come so much added time; 9 minutes in all!!

Are you sure Klopp is not related to SAF or something.

Most of the added time was for the injury to Lovrens, the rest was for substitutions.

I think the fact that they made their decision from a replay showed in the ground which is against premiership rules irks me,
if Liverpool had scored that would they have shown a replay to persuade the ref?
Yes it was the correct decision but very wrong how they arrived at it,

it could set some sort of president into all home teams doing this which i say is against premiership rules,

If we could have shown 4 replays in our home game against Leicester that went against us 3 nailed on pens oh and a offside goal for Leicester can you imagine the uproar oh but the right decisions would have been reached  Whistle

Or is it that so called big clubs can get away with it ?

At the moment its all rumors that they used the replay to make the decision.  If you watch what happened form the replays I saw they never once showed either of the ref or the linesman looking at the screen.  When the goal was scored the ref was talking to the linesman and then went over to directly speak to him, at which point they came to their decision.

Of course this could all be avoided by introducing video replays by a 5th official or in a case like this allowing the ref to talk to the media to explain exactly what happened and what was discussed.  Even if they don't want to put the refs in front of the media groups like the managers face, at least have them talk to just one reporter so it can be explained.

Anyway on a lighter note ,

Seems the scousers happiness at getting a point against WBA spilled out into the city center and not just inside the stadium  Big Grin

St Charles, more than happy for video refs to be used to obtain the right decision, but it must be run by fifa, uefa or the fa not Liverpool fc, it must be independent and not biased, there is an elite little club in the prem that everything is geared towards. Twice this season the same use of stadium tv would have changed our results, home to Everton leading 2 - 1 when they scored an offside goal to level the scores, that allowed them to go on and score a handball induced winner, then again against leicester, 1 - 0 up, not given three blatant penalties which the tv experts agreed should have been given, at least one would have resulted in a red card, potentially 4 - 0 up against ten men, they then equalize, to rub salt into the wound they score a second that is half a yard offside, add a third before a guilty conscience to the ref gives us a correct but soft penalty for 3 - 2.

All we ask is a level playing field ..... fair for all ...... not just the FA's exclusive gentlemen's club (the top six). I am sick to death of the poor decisions that go against us week in week out costing us points, league positions and prize money, and yes sometimes the poor decisions go in our favour but it is boll###s when people say it evens out .... believe us it does not. Twice we have had a public apology from the head of the professional referees association at the end of the season because of dick turpin ...... one season it was 26 points lost. I am losing my love of football, I now find it hard to summon any enthusiasm, I do not watch a whole MotD and refuse to pay for sky or BT football because of the bias from pundits. Bring back the working man's game ....... rant over, blood pressure in orbit. Please, if you disagree shoot down my rant.

Just watched the BBC Klopp interview. What a poor sportsman. It seems that when you are a media favourite, have home advantage, a squad that cost ten times the opposition and a high profile manager, teams like West Brom should not be allowed to come along and spoil their parties.

4eva, I completely agree with regards to any club illegally showing replays on the screens in the stadium, but as I said there is only twitter allegations of that actually happening. If this did happen, then WBA should report it and it should be investigated. With the number of cameras at all games now it should be very easy to see what the ref and linesman looked at. I am currently watching American football on tv over here and they have video replays for the officials to get calls right and the refs are miked up and announce the decisions they have made. Lets make the refs accessible to ask their thoughts about the decisions they make without hounding them, that way controversies will be squashed before they get moving on twitter!!!
