Massive 3 pts today if we'd lost that....? Well it simply doesn't bear thinking about. Another plus point is that of Sherwood who is rapidly taking villa south. He will get the sack sooner or later and our little old club can have a good chuckle at him?

Yeah, I missed the McLean thing so am reserving judgement.  From what's been described to me, it's the kind of thing which wouldn't have raised an eyebrow twenty-odd years ago, and there seems to be a whole load of precious Mackems who can dish it out but can't take it back.

I agree ska'd it sounds like their lot had hurled a lot of abuse at the guy and he got the last laugh but as you say they like dishing it out but lose their marbles if they get a bit back. If you live in glass houses and all that..

Seen the McClean "controversy" on MOTD. Suspicion confirmed: mountain out of a molehill. Would have been uncalled for if it was unprovoked, but after ninety minutes of getting dog's abuse, you have to say fair's fair.

Furthermore berahino goal legit. He and the keeper (who was as shearer said was clearly 1 foot taller than saido) both went for a 50/50 the ball bounced about between them and yes struck saido's inner forearm but clearly not with intent dropped to the floor their keeper dropped his hands on the ball as saido put his heel to the ball and took it out of his hands? Its all in a split second and benefit goes to the striker as they say. Now whilst it looks iffy to some (Kilbane for example) its legit for others (shearer a striker) lets cast our minds back to so so so many decisions that go against the albion particularly when we were a yo yo club and the big teams always nearly always got the 50/50's their way.

On to mcclean incident no man has to take the kind of abuse the sunderland fans gave him today people are proud of their roots and protected by law from any kind of verbal abuse so if you dish it out expect it back or grow up and stop abusing people for their beliefs.

Watched the game live on TV in Qatar, and whilst im naturally delighted with the 3 points, I must say that it was another dire performance against an equally poor side in Sunderland.

I posted last week that we should be playing 4-5-1 and I think yesterday justified that case even more. There are a number of ways in which you can do it but ideally I would like to see Mcmanaman and Mclean out wide, with Fletcher and Yacob holding in the middle, and the likes of Morrison or Sess just ahead of them supporting the lone striker – Berahino, or Rondon.

Is Mcmanaman injured or something as I can’t understand for the life of me why he isn’t getting game?

I’ve also said before that Peace will sacrifice entertainment and a few iffy results this season and stick with Pulis as he will feel he is the man that to ensure the clubs safety – by hook or by crook. As a businessman, Peace will naturally feel that it is worth risking the wrath of the fans (if the team continues to play poorly), due to the prize of next year’s new Premier League TV deal , providing Pulis keeps us up?!?

It’s going to be a long hard season, not one to remember by any means. I feel for the fans that go every week – including my family Undecided

On the drive home from the match I listened to BBC606.

One Albion fan called in to say he would rather we played pretty football in Division 1 than watch the current style of play in the Premier League.

Many called in to say clubs such as Bolton, Portsmouth etc would love to swap pretty football for being in the Premiership. Be careful what you ask for.

I am not happy that 'at the moment' it's a little dire, but I'll take a gradual development under TP in the Premiership v relegation. It might be a few season of this (with slight improvements as we go) but I am sticking with the TP/JP plan.

I've said this before you don't get pretty football in league 1,2 etc. You get long ball or dare I say hoof ball exactly what some of us are unhappy about now. If its pretty football you want then la liga is the place to go. How often do you hear about foreign players coming to the prem and having to adjust to the pace and more direct way of playing? I'm not happy about the way were playing lately either but I watched bournemouth yesterday and they played some nice football however 5-1 8-o and if you remember we tried taking it to city on the opening day and the result.... So I agree with stairs.. be careful what you wish for. We desperately need to win some matches and yesterday was a must win its taken us 7 pts clear of relegation zone and only 6 off the top 4

I would rather watch total football but we tried that when we first got promoted to the premier, nice to watch but hard to take the six nil thumpings and the yoyo tag, if we can continue to consolidate and improve the quality so that we can challenge towards the top then great. But why oh why does it take so long ..... look at palace even wet sham playing reasonable football in top ten. They have an advantage being in London, easier to attract players but what happened to all our rough diamonds .......

We did not take the game to Man City on the opening day. That is just simply not true. It was one in a long succession of insipid, listless performances, but at least then we had the excuse of playing someone good.
And this 'hoofball vs relegation' debate is to some extent a false dichotomy. I realise you have to play with a degree of caution and cannot leave yourself too open, but we go so far the other way it is unbelievable. I simply don't accept that this is the only way these players can play. Particularly when we are against teams no better than us.
My friend is a Barnsley fan and we saw them play the other week, and in all honesty they were far better than us at stringing 3-4 passes together, so I also don't accept that all lower league football is hoofball.
Come on people, we all deserve better than the football that is being served up to us at the moment. The bottom line is that it is simply not fun to watch.

Yes, we deserve better football. No argument there.
Yes, we have players in the squad that I know can play more expansively than they are.
Yes, it has to be a TP deliberate plan to restrict the flow and focus on defence first.
Yes, I really only got excited once, when Sess took the ball past two player on the wing, and want more of the same.
Yes, other teams seem to be able to do it and agree fully, then why can't we?

I am not a football expert. TP has been in the game a long time and JP knows how to run a tight ship - there has to be a plan. Secure the points, get to a position of strength defensively and then start expanding the play. There was an article this Sunday that suggests as much. TP talking about building from the back and his own frustration that we are not getting the ball down the wing and that we are not putting enough in the box for the strikers.

I went to the match on Saturday. McClean took the ball down the wing plenty of times but only once did he put a quality cross in. All other times they went behind the goal and into the crowd. Totally rubbish and, putting the ball into the box is what he was bought for. It was terrible.

It is still early days for me. TP kept us up last year. He bought players this summer and drilled them. They are now putting that drill into play on the pitch and are finding their feet with that style. I suspect (hope) we will see a gradual improvement as the season moves forward and so I am happy to wait trust in them all.
