You are right Pooch and he is right to say he has to rebuild. It isn't easy, or necessarily quick. It's taken three seasons for Walsall to be an overnight success. But when you're building it's a good idea to be following a plan. And any sign of that is difficult to discern. Even when Cookie was losing you could see what the team was trying to achieve!

On paper that looks like a good team today. Not really any excuses if we lose

Well we won and I was delighted until I read Dean Smith's assessment and the ratio 16 shots to 4.

None of the sides in this division is vastly better than the rest and on a good day bottom can beat top. Whether this was the light at the end of a tunnel or the light of an oncoming train is hard to fathom.

To me the team selection looked conservative and scaredy-cat ....... but it worked. Can we win at home though?

I know I should be satisfied with three points and fourteenth place. BUT I look at Swindon and see they've been daft enough to sack Mark Cooper and wish he was ours.

Well at least its hauled Deans win ratio up to 33 % now so going in the right direction.
To be fair he admitted we weren't great but we took our chances they didn't .
This managerstats is a really interesting site and its surprising how many managers who you think did poorly have decent stats .Nigel Clough at Sheff U for instance, constantly moaned at on Radio Sheff by their fans yet had a 47% win ratio.
Our highest of recent times was Nicky Law (46 %)followed by Cookie (45).
Of course these figures shouldnt be taken completely at face value, there are other factors to take into consideration .For instance the team may have had a budget advantage ,a big team in a small pond or vice versa and obviously the more games played the more accurate the figure .
A manager will usually lose his job after a poor run even if his overall figure is decent which maybe suggests the Clubs should have more patience during these runs.

Just watched the highlights and if we didn't have Tommy Lee in net we would have lost that game by 4 or even 5.

I wonder what Morsy and Gardner were doing at the end?

Looks like we restricted them to long range efforts though we should be closing them down in the 25 /30 yard area.
Danny Boy looked really wound up at the end.Hope they resolved their differences.

Wanting to fight after they've won, doesn't sound like a happy dressing room to me.

Tommy makes some great saves, but Brad Guzan can do that at Villa. He's still a shit keeper though.

Tommy generally makes good decisions and gets along with his defence, that's what I like. He's very competent, very reliable and doesn't make too many mistakes in general. It'll be interesting to compare him with young Bentley from Southend, who was generally reckoned to be the reason his team got promoted (despite making a big mistake at Wembley, which seems to have put off the scouts).

Every time we win I think Dean was right all along and every time we lose I think he's an idiot .

Pooch that could either mean you're an idiot, or the wisest fool in christendom.

You thought he was right before the game against Walsall. And you were right.
