I think this shows the state of newcastle fans at the moment.
And we still have a few people worried about CC who no doubt would have loved to have gotten Schteeeve in the summer. http://www.themag.co.uk/2015/09/newcastl...eserves-1/

literally just walked through the door home. Moved 200 yards in an hour straight after game, then A1 shut near enough all the way back southbound. Reyt laugh.
Removed until we're actually on our way back

Nobody got score & scorer correct.
Nobody got the predictions correct. SCO got the corners correct with 6 and gets his first ![]() BML Updated

Oh what a night,
Why'd it take so long to see the light? Seemed so wrong, but now it seems so right Sweet surrender, what a night. In many ways this was an unimportant match that we could lose by the odd goal and the season continues pretty much unaffected. It doesn't give us any points that will help us return to the PL. In fact it gives us another fixture in an already overcrowded programme. However last night's win helps us is so many other ways. CC got it just right when he said, "This one was for the supporters." In fact CC is brilliant with the PR, saying all the right things at the right time. It gave the 4800 fans that travelled to Newcastle on a Wednesday evening, a night to remember. We beat an established PL side away from home & deservedly so. The fact that it took Newcastle 85 minutes to have an effort on target and that was lame and straight at our 19 year old keeper, the fact that we conceded just two corners in 90 minutes and the fact that we outplayed our PL hosts and won in a canter with pretty much a reserve team says so much. It validates what I have been saying for the last six weeks or so - that Wednesday are on the way back. We have an exciting and skilful squad of players playing an exciting and fluid brand of football and gradually we are becoming a team to be feared at SBC level. The fans that haven't seen us this season have remained sceptical and it is easy to see this from forum comments but even while we haven't been winning, the signs have been there that CC is turning Wednesday into a team capable of challenging for promotion. That is one of the reasons why fans views have been so polarised - the fans seeing the transformation from crawling caterpillar to beautiful butterfly are enthused and see the "Brave New World" that DC is creating as being close, maybe even very close. The stay away fans are opposed to the DC revolution. They don't like the new ticketing policy, the unknown foreign coach and new players being recruited by committee. In between, are the wavering fans. The fans that have seen years of hurt and expect that with Wednesday, every new dawn will prove to be a false one. The progression in the four matches since the international break has been remarkable. We played well largely at Burnley but let the game slip away. We battered Bolton but couldn't score the goal we deserved. We battered Fulham and scored three times. We outplayed a PL side last night & won comfortably. If this progression continues, we should soon start moving up the league table and be contenders for at least a Playoff place this season. There will be blips along the way but we are a team & a club on the up. Newcastle hit the post early on but after that, we were always in control. The back four looked well drilled. Helan & Wiggins looked threatening down the left, Joao & Sougou caused Newcastle problems all night while McGugan controlled CM and scored the winner. The longer the match went on, the more convinced I was that we were going to win it. By half time, I was pretty sure. We were playing perfectly while Newcastle were exhibiting all the symptoms we had shown in our decline - nervousness in possession, players switching off and fans turning on their team. There was a kind of inevitability about the goal - the kind of goal we have been conceding for years. A long ball, brilliantly controlled by Bus. The ball broke to McGugan three yards outside the box and his shot took a wicked deflection, taking it out of the grasp of the floundering Krul. It should have been 2-0 when Joao's header was brilliantly tipped on to the bar by Krul and Bus incredibly hit the bar again from two yards out on the rebound. Seeing out the final minutes was pretty routine and the only nervous moment was when Semedo tried a bit of show boating in our own half and got dispossessed but it amounted to little. Wildsmith - 7 Palmer - 7 Lees - 7 Loovens - 7 Wiggins - 7 Semedo - 6 McGugan - 8 Helan - 8 Matias - 6 Joao - 8 Sougou - 7 .......................... Bus - 7 Nuhiu - 6 Bannan - 6 The long term benefits will be that the wavering fans will start to be won over. The disappointing home crowds should start to increase as fans start to realise that we are playing better football, we will win a lot of games and that they want to be part of what is going to be an exciting season. Also, the part time fans will want to watch the Arsenal match so that might lead to increases in Membership and possibly attendance at the next two home matches if the Club offer discounts to fans who have attended league matches. The sweeping tide of optimism should take the wavering fans with it. My only fear is that the group of fans that feel disenfranchised by increased ticket prices might become more disenfranchised as they see other OWLS buying in to the DC revolution. Even I am getting excited and Saturday cannot come soon enough. If we win that one then optimism levels will reach a new high.

These are the kind of nights you love being a Wednesday fan.
Even better, we actually get a great home draw in the next round. My brother has already asked me if I'm going to go with him and I already said of course, even if it costs me a fortune! I assume the prices will reflect the status of Arsenal as one of the 'Big 4'. Like MS, I'm quite looking forward to Saturday and if we win it could point towards greater things in the future. I do hope so.
You know nothing, Jacko

What a night. Unbelievable atmosphere in the away end.
Steve's match report absolutely bang on the money. For me, Helan was outstanding, unplayable at times. Sougou had his best game in a Wednesdag shirt, as did Wiggins. Great to see McGugan back with a goal and I thought Semedo was immense in the anchor role. No bad points or minuses. Sergiu 'Rosenthal' Bus could have made the scoreline look comfortable. In reality, it was. I still think he's got a lot to offer. He's much stronger than his size suggests and his hold up play for our goal was superb. Brentford on Saturday, can't be there as its my brothers wedding but I'll be cheering us on from the Peak District. Come on you Owls! |
