Hibs v Montrose - 01/08/15
#1
Hibs host Second Division Montrose, The Gable Endies, in the first round of the League Cup at 3pm on Saturday.

Montrose finished 10 points adrift of East Stirling and Berwick Rangers last season and only survived in the league system by beating Brora Rangers 3-2 on aggregate in the play-offs. They are managed by Paul Hegarty, one of Dundee United's star defenders in their heyday. Their latest signings are from the local Junior team and many of their players have Dundee FC and Brechin City connections.

After their extremely disappointing exit in the Petrofac Cup at the hands of Rangers last weekend, Hibs could do with a confidence boost before next weekend's opening Championship fixtures. No doubt Messrs Bartley, Carmichael and Keating are regular attendees at East Mains, but we've seen neither hide nor hair of them at Easter Road. It looks like Jordon Forster will not make this tie, so I'd be inclined to put Hanlon in the back line and Bartley in midfield. The only way he'll get full fitness is to play him in matches. I'd also like to see Reguero get a run of games as first choice keeper. Unlike some others, I'd also like to see Scott Allan in the first team. If he shows any disinterest in playing for Hibs, then I'd let him sit in the stand. Let him decide in front of the fans whether or not he wants to earn his wages. That way it's his decision and he can't try to put the blame on anyone else.

If the injury situation stays the same, my team would be:-

Reguero,
Gray, Hanlon, Fontaine, Stevenson,
Fyvie, Bartley, Stanton, Scott Allan,
Cummings, Lewis Allan.

Substitutes - Harris, Martin, Malonga.

I should have added that I had hoped that Alan Stubbs would have made full use of the bench, but continuing his policy from last season, although we went 2-4 down with almost 30 minutes still to go, he seemed to accept the result and didn't use his 3rd substitute. Whether he didn't think that any player on the bench was better than those on the pitch or he just couldn't count up to 3, at least try something. If we're not good enough, then fair enough, but please try something. Angry

Slightly different post but hope you don't mind me talking about it here Ritchie. I've just read tonight's EEN great rallying call from the Hibs manager and his back room team I hope the fans jump on the bandwagon at long last we seem to have a Manager that cares about the club and the direction it seems to heading also like to say Leanne Dempster must be given massive credit for the roll she has played in all this.

Possibly in common with many of you, I've just received an e-mail from the club, with Leeann Dempster wanting the fans to match the club's new-found ambition by buying season tickets and/or shares. I'll probably resist that offer, but over the season I might spend more on match-day tickets than I would buying a season ticket now.

It's a great boost to hear the news coming from the club that they have ambition. Long may it continue.

Ritchie I agree with you 100% all positive vibes coming fom the Board & Management Team at least there putting it out there they want the fans to be involved with he club.

As for the season ticket it does not matter if people are still not buying them as long as fans are coming through the gates and paying money it all helps at the end of the day.
