You can't compare Bloody Sunday to things that happened 2000 years ago. I get your point but McLean would know people directly Affected by it and you're being facetious to compare it to the Romans
I'm sure there are many who would know people affected by attrocities related to Ireland, plenty in this country. This man chose to rub our noses in it.

There are enough people who ignore the National Anthem when its played in a stadium, but continuing to chat to friends, staying in queues for beers etc and so standing still and being quiet is not in the top league of insults as far as I am concerned.
What great though is the football fans sense of humour and as proof of that I understand the Albion fans were singing 'God Save James McClean' as an anthem during the match. Well played to them, it could be a trend this season during matches.

All very sad to me. As I've said before, this is no longer the country I grew up in, more's the pity.

Nostalgia is not what it used to be.
Joking aside. it is a dreadful shame that he has behaved like this and I wish he had not. But young people (I am 50+ and so young covers a large mass) make strong bold statements which are mainly ill informed or not tempered with consideration of others and when they look back in time they'll wish they had not.
I certainly have made strong claims in my youth on fur trading, animal welfare, Unions (still hate them), Labour (still loathe them) and religion. Looking back, I upset many people (i my family and close) with my overly string views of the time - I wish I could go back and modify them.
Footballers mature very slowly and act like children for a much longer time. No surprise they do stupid things.

I would not be suprised if James Mclean has raised the heckles of a few local Loyalist Proddies....
He has made his point of view public, as he is entitled to on the back of millions that gave their lives, so he should not be suprised if others make theirs.
Republicans were killed by British Soldiers, no denying, and that seems to be the only fact that matters. IRA atrocities prior to and since Bloody Sunday are irrelevant?
Blame it on our Empire-building forefathers....
