Whilst I can defend his position on the Poppy affair I cannot condone his actions during the National Anthem. He is contracted to an English club. He is recieving the English pound for his services. He should NOT turn his back on the people who are paying his wages. If his beliefs are so strong why is he NOT playing for an IRISH republic club.?? I for one will not put 1p into the Baggies pot whilst this piece of shit is wearing our beloved shirt.

Yes I am ex military. I have also seen the effects his beliefs have inflicted on INNOCENT people. I have collected body parts on the streets of Belfast and Londonderry. CHILDREN who never had the chance to play football never mind collect huge pay days for doing such.

As you say I have empathy with him over his stance regarding the poppy, and many people do not wear them for various reasons. But to completely disrespect the National Anthem of any country while living and benefitting from that country is for me too far!! No one is expecting him to pledge allegiance to the Queen or even stand there and belt out the words, but he should at least show some respect. What did he do for the US anthem when that was played, as it is at all sports events over here??

DD, I think I must have missed something here or it hasn't been reported as yet but, what exactly has this McClean done?

McLean is clearly happy to get paid in English pounds but, not prepared to show respect for the Anthem of the Country that pays him.

I'm with St Charles owl on this one. The poppy decision I can get my head around but why do this ?
The club needs to look at this and investigate.

It's our National Anthem (and that includes N.I.) - I don't like the words either, but he's not obliged to sing them.
He could easily have asked to be excused from the Anthem, but he chose to make a statement. The Club should punish him for this, if not sell him. 4Quenelle!

Ridiculous how this has been blown out of proportion.

Why the national anthem is being played at a club match I do not know.. It has offensive connotations to him, let him stand by his beliefs. Not sure about others but living in England to me means we live in a country where we are allowed to have different religious and political beliefs. He's paid to play football not to serve the royal family ffs
