No, I work with a couple. Complete denial.

Just because lies were told and mistakes made by the authorities does not absolve them of any of the blame. If they would admit that I would have more sympathy for their cause. They want to be treated like saints and they are not. Like I say, the 96 were innocent but not all the Liverpool fans that were there can say they are. Just as not all the police were to blame. There were some real heroes amongst them and they should not all be tarred with the same brush.

I have always said the ultimate cause was the hooligan element all clubs had in the 70s and 80s that caused the authorities to insist on fences being installed. Without the fences, no-one would have died. And guess what, the Heysel disaster was a major cause of that as well, and we all know who was involved in that one!!!

Totally agree with what you lot are saying.
I just found out this week that he who had his two daughters crushed to death had actually told them to go stand in there as he didn't want them stood with him.
What a twat! Make no wonder he's desperate to pass the guilt on.

Trevor Hicks is the guy you are referring to.  He actually sat in the North Stand but the story I heard was they didn't want to sit for the game so got tickets for the standing area instead!  Really felt for him losing two daughters that way but he was one of the guys saying all sorts of things afterwards, including asking for Sheffield Wednesday to be forced to close down!!!!

Phil Scraton wrote a book I read called Hillsborough where he went through all the event in great detail. It was a very good read and certainly called a lot of the problems that occurred that day including the lack of any real medical assistance that could certainly have helped save a bunch of lives in those crucial minutes after the crush was discovered, but again he completely ignored all the pushing and shoving by Liverpool fans outside the ground!!

I really felt for the cop who eventually made the decision to open the gate, he would have been crucified had he not done so and people had died outside a ground!! Imagine the headlines, 'people die because police didn't want ticketless fans in the ground!!" As it was he knows his life saving action was one of the factors that caused the deaths!! Not closing the entrace to the tunnel was another huge factor and this was down to Duckenfield either freezing or simply not being familiar with that stand to know to close the entrance before the outside gate was opened!!

As I say, it was a catalog of errors and events that caused it, not one thing only!!

Don't get me started on Hillsborough.

Yea Liverpool fans are no Angels but SYP are the main people where the blame lies and that bastard has admitted that this week(I don't want to swear but he is)
I hope the throw the book at SYP,the FA, SWFC and Sheffield city council

No offence to SWFC fans on here, I have nothing against you..I just feel justice should be done

SYP have not moved on from that day. Go to any game in South Yorks and you are still a hooliganism until you prove otherwise. Sad but true.

But yet they allow regular kickoff times.

I agree that SYP are to blame for a lot of what went wrong on that day. And the Thatcher government played their part in the ridiculous cover up. And that the Sun printed a whole boat load of lies.
But that doesn't hide the fact that the Liverpool fans played their part in the tragedy. They were without doubt, one of the worst set of hooligans in the country and as such, were responsible for clubs having to put supporters behind cages.

Completely agree, SYP have to take the bulk of the  blame, but that and the cover up doesn't make others blameless either.  And no offence taken, I still wonder what the legal ramifications could possibly be against the club at some point, especially regarding the safety certificate.  Of course that football company doesn't exist anymore so not sure what would happen if civil proceeding are brought.  The one thing that is for sure is that the FA were in control of the ground that day, not us, they have a contract to use the ground in those situations, again not sure what that will mean though.
