Oxford United have signed Cagliari's Slovenia Under-21 international forward Nik Prelec on a season's loan with an option to buy.

The Championship club have agreed a deal for the 24-year-old who has spent the past two seasons on loan in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Prelec was picked up by Sampdoria as a youth but left to join Austrian side WSG Tirol without playing any games for the Italian side.

Six goals in 13 games for Tirol saw Cagliari move for him in 2023 but after playing a dozen games for them in Serie A he had temporary stays back at Tirol and with Austria Vienna, scoring 14 goals in 63 appearances over the past two seasons.

Head coach Gary Rowett told the club website, external: "He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with a good goalscoring record in a highly competitive Austrian league.

"He brings a really imposing threat to the top end of our team and has fantastic experience for his age."
Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?

Oxford United have signed Tottenham Hotspur striker Will Lankshear on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old has made six senior appearances for Spurs, scoring his only goal so far in a 3-2 Europa League defeat to Galatasaray last season, in which he was later shown a red card.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, making 11 appearances without scoring a goal.

In 2023-24, Lankshear was the top scorer in Premier League 2, scoring 18 goals in 19 games for Spurs.

"This is a really exciting opportunity for me to be joining a great club," Lankshear told the Oxford website, external.

"I learned so much last season in the first team at Tottenham and West Brom and I'm ready to now kick on with Oxford United.

"I love nothing more than scoring goals. I want to do my best to bring as many as I can this season."
