That was one from left field, reputable sources reporting CC is off to Valencia, with them offering in excess of CC's release clause, its hard to see how this will not happen, a chance in the Spanish leagues for him, money in the pot for the club and another long period of uncertainty for us at the worst time.
I have to say good luck to him if he does decide to go, which in all honesty I expect and apparently in is in his hands, as reportedly the two clubs have agreed.
For me if he turns this one down it could only be for the club and the fans, so advance warning if he does expect a mouthful if you diss him

There was a bit of discussion around this in the New Year thread.
If he goes, I'd wish him well and thank him for the job he's done under tough conditions in turbulent times.
Valencia is a big club, his local club and if his wiki page is to be believed, where he played as a youth. So I can see the attraction.
However, as I said in the New Year Thread, I'd be far less disappointed about it now than if he'd been poached in the summer, based on what we've served up this season.
Despite us recently returning to winning ways, I think this season's football has become a bit long in the tooth. For me, we're not going up or down, so it's been a chance for us to attempt to transform our playing style and play something a bit more entertaining. Sadly, I'm not sure Carlos could give us that as his style seems quite rigid.
So I wouldn't shed any tears if he left.
That said, we could do a lot worse than Carlos. So we do need to hope Shilen and the Bilkul group know what they're doing when replacing him.
If they do a good job, maybe we'll see a return to better football while pocketing a few million to help steady the ship. Time will tell, but he will leave with my blessing if he goes.

So it looks as though CC is going, I am disappointed as I think he is the best manager we have had since Mowbray.
Not surprised he is going back to Spain and to where he has family connections, as I think that will too good an opportunity to miss.
Who do we want to take over the manager spot.
My choice in order would be:-
Moyes (steady underrated manager who can work within a budget, and builds a team)
Ole Gunnar solksjar (done well previously and a chance for us to find more players like heggem, plus I would like to give him some time to build on what’s there)
David Wagner (knows his way round the championship and even found success in the premier league)
After those three I think we could do a lot worse than bringing Tony Mowbray back.
So I am choosing people who are free, as I would like the CC fee to go into squad improvements.
Guys and gals I want to hear what you think to my choices and also who you would like to take over the hot seat.

Ole for me, my biggest worry is not so much CC going, but the vultures circling to grab our best players in January. Everton already renewing interest in Fellows.

There has been so much speculation and linking of CC with a whole raft of jobs in the last 12 months that you would hope there has been some preparation for this day (a very un-Albion like approach I know). To that end, it’s possible there may be names from abroad of which we are unaware and which may be very leftfield.
Of the names currently being bandied about from the list of unemployed managers, I guess we have to be realistic; Potter is clearly hanging out for a substantial EPL position so wouldn’t consider us and Moyes has never worked at this level for many years, although I honestly would not want him. The rest is a list of “the sacked”, so take your pick but none of them are exactly inspiring.
Tony Mowbray would be a nostalgic choice and his football when we won the Championship was glorious but, then again, I would suggest the squad of players he had is streets ahead of the current one. I’m never sure going back is always the right decision (thinking of Johnny Giles and Ron Atkinson) but who knows.
If I was forced to pick from the names being bandied about, I’d probably go for Robbins but it wouldn’t be with any great enthusiasm. Merry Christmas everyone

Completely agree that, right now, as big a challenge is keeping hold of what talent we have

Ole? The guy who failed miserably at Cardiff and everywhere he’s been since? We need a coach not someone living off his playing reputation so I suspect it’ll be a left field appointment either from Europe or a young manager from a lower division. If the names out there only Cooper works for me but I suspect he still thinks he can get a premier league role.

Looks to be signed, sealed and delivered now with the club saying "Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill", will take over first team duties.

I'm not 100% who I pick to be the new manager. Many obvious choices are realistically out of our price range. Cooper and Potter are wishful thinking.
Russell Martin is a possibility and he may be available on the cheap. He has masterminded promotion so he's qualified.
As for selling Maja - Fellows - Palmer must be available for the right money. We are a selling club and we have held onto players before only to lose them for peanuts anyway. We need a few new faces and a couple of others need to be shipped out.
Lots for Pearce to be doing, WBA go on with or without king Carlos.

So it's now confirmed CC's off; who can blame him? Hometown club, Spain, etc etc.
I'm sure we all wish him well, as he seems a thoroughly good man. Personally, I feel it's good for both parties - I'd sooner win 1 and lose 2, and play with an attacking intent, than draw all 3 playing in the negative style.
But I certainly recognise that we are in a MASSIVELY better positive than when Carlos arrived - without him I'm sure we'd be down at least 1 division, so many, many thanks from me!
