QPR & Huddersfield vs WBA - Match Thread

A few of our usually reliable players kept giving the ball away in dangerous positions. Mowatt, Fellows, Wallace all guilty at times. Good job the finishing was clinical.

We could do with someone dynamic, powerful and energetic like the midfielder who scored the goals for QPR...

Wonder where they got him from?

Oh wait...

Really good point when you consider how QPR smothered us. On another night, with another ref, we could've lost by 3 or 4 goals.

My worry is that other teams will see how QPR pressed us and realise we can't deal with it. They showed that teams can commit to a high press because we don't have the quality up front to play long, hold the ball up and get out. It's admirable of Wallace to be willing to play anywhere, but aside from as an out and out right winger, he's useless. I'm not sure how a positional change can effect a player's ability to do the basics like trap a ball and pass straight, but has with him.

All we really need is a calm head up there to put their foot on the ball and keep it. A bit of composure.

Let's just hope Maja is back sooner rather than later.

Special mention for Mikey Johnston who is almost single-handedly keeping us in the playoff places at the moment. He has to start but I think Corberan has to select from either Wallace or Fellows on the right hand side. I don't think we can accommodate both in our best line up.

Do you think we'll play that new keeper against Huddersfield? Looked promising - Kipre, I think he was called...

Do the FA not hand out retrospective suspensions for that kind of shithousing anymore when it eludes the ref on the night? I assumed Kipre would be getting a (deserved) ban on Wednesday night when the video evidence got reviewed, but can't see anything online to suggest that's happening.

I have limited sympathy for QPR as they'd already been given a joke of a penalty and fluffed it, but players going full Luis Suarez on the goal-line should be punished on principle, even if it benefits us.

Coventry and Norwich playing today and both have winnable games (Rotherham/Watford)
This will put us 2 games in hand though.

Our bench is super strong today.
Let's not be doing Huddersfield any favours. We need the points.

1-0 and as you say they have learned 'press, press, press,' from the opposition. But we have ourselves to blame for much of it, sloppy passing and waiting for the pass to come rather than traveling to the pass. Opposition players are just stepping up 2 steps and intercepting the pass we are far too predictable especially when attempting to playing out of defence.

HALF TIME: still 1-0 and time for CC to tear the whole team a new one. If we are going to continue playing this 1 yard forward, 1 yard sideways and 1 yard back for 95 percent of the game, the other 5% has to be effective and the defending has to be 100% effective. none of that is happening. Not 1 shot, let alone 1 on target in the whole of the first half, I dread to think what Huddersfield interception numbers are but I would think eyewatering. I rate CC and am sure that he will come up with some masterstroke in the second half but wee shall see.
