Just back from the game. What a difference a week makes !
Brown Ideye was immense tonight - took his goal well and great touch to set up Berahino as well as putting a shift in with his work rate and play in general. The Brown/Saido combination could be very good until of course, Berahino moves on to 'better things' (09-02-2015, 17:07)meandbrenarebaggies Wrote: Swansea have had a few years good output but compared to The Albion they really should be seen as very beatable with us at home. Our aspirations should be competing with the likes of Everton and Newcastle Utd for top ten positions and seeing home wins against Swansea and Aston Villa as more or less routine. If we continue to self-denigrate ourselves and whinge about our own players shortcomings then we deserve to rattle around in the relegation dog fight area of the league. The difference between a team winning and getting better and a team sliding is CONFIDENCE. I hope Pulis does instil this but it's really down to Lescott and Fletcher to pick the kids up and get them going. We are a gnat's hair away from being a more positive, aggressive and durable team. And......we must get our striped shirt back ASAP!I HOLD MY HAND UP, MEANDBREN, YOU WERE RIGHT! I'm also quoting the self-denigration and whingeing bits because that's right as well - we should always remain positive, but boy, I have to say I didn't have a good feeling about this game, but all was well that ended well. Now for Everton and Newcastle! I always knew TP would be a good appointment for us. Well done again!

Massive win tonight and exactly what Pulis was pulled into the club for. When you're competitive, tough
to beat and don't just roll over for sides, you always have a chance to win. We were a soft touch under Irvine - we stood up tonight. Swansea are neat and tidy and bossed the ball, but without Sigurosson they didn't have much guile. Apart from Montero who is a world class dribbler, we were more than capable of coping with them. And when they did threaten, Lescott was really good today. MOTM for me. We soaked it up, but looked more clinical on the break. The plaudits will go to Brown because he's just come into the side, but Saido was the star for me. Linked up really well with the midfield and his goal was a peach. Brown was much improved too though, nice finish and lay off for Saido. Hopefully with his confidence growing, he'll have more positive contribution to make in the coming weeks. 3 more wins should be enough to see us safe. If we battle this hard for the rest of the season, we should be okay. But a big positive to win tonight. Much improved performance, but I'm not getting too carried away.
The big difference was the 2 goals: when they went in it gave them spirit - which was a good sign - but we've come close in the last few weeks. A 0-0 would have left us pretty deflated this morning. Miserable get, ain't I? I've actually got a big grin this morning, but it shows the thin line between success and failure. Saido does so much good stuff that we now almost take for granted - the way he peels away from the central channels and makes space; his first touch is amazing; he's SO 2-footed defenders just don't know where he's going.......but IMO his biggest asset is the way he holds the ball up in tight situations. For a bloke who's probably - what - 5ft 8" and 10 stone soaking wet this is a great atribute! And to have an instinctive 'nose for goal' too - last night's was a real beauty but he generally hits the ball so sweetly. Great talent! I can really see the confidence in the team start to grow from here, and although we're certainly not out of the woods yet, at least we've got a map! |
