Anstey Nomads

I enjoyed watching the match on Saturday. The red button commentators hadn't done their research as they thought Cook was in charge for the Chelsea game last season.

I thought we played well but there were times where we were a bit sloppy in possession and gave the ball away too easy. The defence needs strengthening because if a team like Anstey Nomads can stretch the defence from the left and right wing then we will get punished by teams in the National League. I thought they were unlucky not to get a goal with the amount of chances they had and was impressed by their No 9, if Fitzsimons hadn't tipped the ball over the bar then they might have got their goal.

They struggled to contain Dobra and noticed they were either kicking him or going in rather late. Was good to see Tshimanga get a goal but think Whelan should have come on a bit sooner. I hope he gets a chance because he is a good player and the type of player who would work well with Quigley because he is a playmaker and creates chances. If we played a 4-3-1-2 then Whelan could sit behind the two strikers as a false 9 but it also means in an attacking phase we would have three upfront.

I didn't watch because I don't relish the BBC red-button coverage. It seems to be done with an attitude that you're lucky to be getting this so shut up and put up with it.

Personally, I feel our full backs are natural wing backs, so I think a back three with them flanking two proper midfielders should be our basic format. In the modern game the players who were full backs seem to have become the key players - which makes sense as that is where the space is.
